People complain about everything on here...we don't sign a Lukaku replacement and people right complain. We are linked with a veteran stop gap replacement while our youngsters develop and people bitch and moan. I mean honestly who else are we going to get that's better than Mandzukic in January?

Why does everyone say “agenda” if they have a different opinion on here, seriously don’t remember this place that way back in the day
It’s a buzz word for people who don’t understand nuance and see everything in simplified binary terms.

Mandzukic isnt that good at all anymore, you have attackers like josip illic, cavani and giroud who have more goals in them than him with only 6 months left on their contract come January, they would all be better than mandzukic.

By time he gets up to speed (if he even does) is there any real point in signing him. Expecting a 33 year old whose never played in the league, hasn’t played all season to come in and hit ground running is a long shot. He also doesn’t score many goals even at his peak.

This just strikes me as a pointless signing unless he’s on loan or a free transfer, for 10m and big wages it’s bit of a joke really.

Although I can see the logic in signing him due to a lack of options and experience, it also feels like he would be someone who would soon be in the “deadwood” pile or possibly instantly in it.

We desperately need a creative player along with a back up striker and starting striker in January, however I just can't see that happening.

Depends on the fees, wages & his contract. I don't mind for Martial's backup.

fees of no more than 10m, with wages of no higher than Mata's & contract of 1 year plus extension. I think there is a good value.

Surprises me how little people know about football on here.
If you think Mandzukic is the answer at 33 and doesn’t even play for his own club then you’re badly mistaken.

I’d say it would be a worst transfer than even Sanchez, if a player is done he’s done!
I mean Villa pick up Wesley, Westham Haller, even Newcastle get Joelinton and we want to go for Mandzukic, total madness.
Must be better strikers in the world, lazy scouting and management, again.

No:
  • not played for months
  • never played in the PL; will not transition
  • over 28
  • too slow
Were he a worldie, I'd relax those rules but he's not.

If money is the issue, alternatives are: Karlan Grant (Huddersfield; 8 goals/14 matches) or Ollie Watkins (Brentford; 10 goals/14 matches). They are good honest English strikers. Currently banging goals in, in the Championship. Wages/fees won't be too high. Grant even has PL experience! OK, so they are not MUQ, but how is Mandzukic? I don't see Mandzukic playing ahead of Martial or Rashford anyway. If we really need a plan B ariel threat towards the end of a game we have McTominay and Maguire we can send forward. Ollie Watkins is an ariel threat too.

No The Athletic is reporting that we've dropped our interest. I wanted him in the summer, but that was as a stop-gap for a year. Makes little sense going after him now and what, give him next season too at this age. I'm also not convinced he'd be a good fit for Ole, a big personality who is reportedly tricky to manage. We already have one of those.

Agree. He's not the solution for our striker problem. Rather have Haaland for that matter.

He was never the right fit, never the answer, and always looked like a truly bizarre target. At least we've something right if we're not going for him anymore.

If the reports about Sancho being available in January I could completely understand this. If one of our potential long-term targets is available we would have to prioritise that over a short-term stop-gap.

Him and Haaland would be the dream (although would still need a CM).

Sun reporting Dortmund are interested in Mandzukic. I wonder if that could be part of our negotiations with Dortmund re Sancho. We back of Mandzukic if you sell us Sancho.

Borussia Dortmund are targeting Mandzukic, plus Juventus and Germany midfielder Emre Can, 25, in January. (Sun)

Agree until this point.

I actually think Mandzukic is a good player, but hes over the hill and hasn't played this season so we should not be going for him

Absolutely clutching, mate. Absolutely clutching.

Honest question - why would Sancho want to come here? Mediocre manager handling a shite squad, floundering in midtable, with our biggest profile player likely to leave as soon as he can get out the door.

at 33, he'd run far too fast for out team. No wonder we've dropped our interest

First off the money would be a big draw, never underestimate that, it also gives him a chance to return to his home country. He can be part of a rebuild of one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's no secret we will strengthen our squad considerably over next few transfer windows. We seem to actually have a plan to target young, hungry players. We've many areas too strengthen across the team, but even right now the addition of 1-2 central midfielders alone would make such a difference to this team. Like any transfer, there is reasons for it not to happen, but there are just as many for it to happen as well.Ideally in Jan we'd be targetting central mids, but doubtful any would be available that we are looking at. There is enough noise coming out about this young man about not being happy. It might well be a case of strike while the iron is hot. If not we move on......

only wanted him if he came alongside Dybala. he's a pointless signing on his own.

Thankfully this noise has now disappeared and been replaced with Haaland - which is more in keeping with Ole’s plan.......I think the stop gap expensive salaried mercenary days are behind us for now
