All I've seen of him in the last while is players running past him. I'm not sure there's any physical resistance left.

I don't think he'll start for United again though.
If that’s the criteria Ole is using to decide Matic’s fate then Phil Jones and Mata’s days should be over as well.

Neither are anywhere near first choice.

I can't see either getting a look in in the PL unless we're absolutely stuck.

You don't think that's the case?

Hopefully McTominay will be ready for this game if so I think the team will be this.

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka--Lindelof--Maguire--Shaw
    Fred--McTominay
    James--Perreira--Rashford
    Martial

Hoping for convincing win but got a feeling it is going to be tight. Think it will be 2-1

According to press reports McT is pushing to get back for this game. Fingers crossed.

This is an absolute must win. We got Spurs on Wednesday and City away on Saturday in which there is a big posibility 6 points will be dropped. Anything other than 3 points against Villa and there's a chance we find ourselves at the bottom come Christmas.

This is getting ridiculous, even aston villa has a better midfield than us? Do you truly believe that?
For this game? We're missing Pogba and maybe McTominay so we'll have some combination of Fred, who's recently started to look decent, Andreas who was awful in CM the other day, Matic after a long layoff who looked done before that, Lingard who isn't a CM but could add some energy if not quality on the ball and Garner who is 18 and has played three minutes in the Premier League.

Villa will likely have John McGinn and Conor Hourihane with Douglas Luiz or Marvelous Nakamba behind them, which I make to be a better unit than anything we'll be able to name tomorrow. What makes you think we're looking better than them in midfield at the moment?

This is Villa. We should be fine without him but then again I heard another record today. Villa has not won at OT since 1992. I don’t think we should risk him if he’s not 100%. Let him get a few more days before Spurs.

With Chelsea losing at home to West Ham it proves there is no home bankers for the teams chasing top 4 and if Man United win tomorrow its just a mere 6 points off 4th

Win this and we're in the race of top 4 again. Very important match.

We won in 2009....but yes no wins apart from that. Just looking at our record at OT is really dire, since premier league era started the only team we've scored more than one goal in a game at Old Trafford was the 3-2 defeat in April 2009.:annoyed:

I can recall 3-4 times when we've gone to Anfield and Emirates and scored at least two goals and we also had a 4-4 at Stamford Bridge in 07-08 yet every year we just implode at OT even in the Moyes season when we were 1-0 up and then gave away some ridiculous goals.

I do actually think we'll get something as long as the players just don't play the history. We're well overdue a result in a big game this season and when you see teams like Newcastle, Norwich and West Ham all get points in these games it's time.

    The starting formation should be

    Rashford---Martial----Greenwood-----James
    Lingard

    Fred
    Williams------Maguire-------Lindelof ----------AWB
    DDG

United were controlling the game against Sheffield Utd with that set up. Ole made a mistake when he shored up midfield with Tuanzebe. This should be our first XI.

I think starting Pereira in a midfield means we're pretty desperate for anything. The guy simply can't be starting. Has to be Matic if McTominay is out.
The tree in my garden is free. And if it's a bit windy, will move more than Static does.

    We really aren't that desperate
I beg to differ. Matic is better than Fred, and therefor 100x better than Pereira in that midfield. That being said, I think Ole will go with Fred and Garner tomorrow, no way he'll continue his mistake of selecting Pereira in midfield. Wouldn't be surprised to see Mata ahead of them instead of Lingard/Pereira. Matic probably frozen out.

Think it would be a mistake. Our two CBs exposed to helter skelter for 90 minutes can be got at, they run scared anytime they get run at. When organized, they are far more reliable. Also, we controlled the game against Sheffield because as is natural, they tried to defend a bit deeper and we went all out, risking being exposed. Once we took the lead, they couldn't just sit back.

Think it's going to have to be Perreira along side Fred instead of Greenwood. At home, if we get a fast start, we can still be all over them an control the game. Added benefit of having at least 1 player on the bench that can change things if need be.

I'm sure you are. Probably cheaper too, but I could be wrong.

As much as Matic has declined, he's still the third best midfielder we have. And we need him in my opinion when both Pogba and McTominay are out.

I do think that like it or not we are going to use our squad...i.e.Matic.

Agree that he has been poor, but since his lay off the Caf has turned him into an absolute liability which he isnt. Most players need match sharpness to get back onto a game, I think for Matic he will slot right into his normal 'level' which whilst not great can do us a job.

Hope he can prove a few of his doubters wrong and that he is not finished. Cant risk bringing Mctominay back too soon!!

A sheepish looking David Moyes was on the same flight as me that arrived into Manchester tonight.

I think all United supporters would hope that any player in the squad could prove their detractors wrong. There's a lot of vitriol aimed at players just because people have taken a dislike to them. I would be happy - on current form - to see the back of Matic, Lingard and Jones. But if they suddenly started playing consistent blinders, I'd take it all back.

Back 3 maybe? With no McTominay
We tried that last week. Disastrous. Would sooner start Tuanzebe as the midfielder next to Fred to be honest. Lingard as the 3rd midfielder, James - Martial - Rashford front 3. Keep Pereira far away from the team.

That midfield is not PL standard and is on par with the O'Shea-Smith double pivot of greatness. McTominay and Pogba better be ready for Spurs and City. Can't believe that we find ourselves in this position. Utter shambles.

Those midfield options up against McGinn and Grealish. Let's just hope our forwards are on form.

I know they aren't in the squad BUT I would love to see this team:

    DDG
    AWB, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Williams
    Garner, Fred
    James, Gomes, Rashford
    Martial

Instead, we are going to see Mata or Lingard as a number 10, and Pereira will start again at CM. Mark my words.

Actually have a weird feeling Villa will beat us tomorrow and can you imagine the amount of pressure going into the games against Spurs and City on Ole?

I really think we'll lose 3 out of the next 3 and If that happens then he has to go If we have any sort of ambition to get back to challenging again

We have spent so much money in the past few years and our squad is so unspeakably weak. How on earth does Woodward keep his job.

So I guess another Fred Pereira disaster awaits. Hopefully the attack and defense can pull us through this time.

I'd be shocked if Garner made his first league start after playing a match in a country bordering China on Thursday. It's a long trip crossing several time zones.

Don't let that stop you though obviously.......

Last week Jones was starting and now he isnt even with the team? Or did he get injured... he did play 45 minutes of football after all.

Im all for not playing Jones but going from starter to not part of the team in a week doesnt seem like someone has any long term plans?
