If you don’t understand why Ole is a gamble worth taking… you’re doing football support wrong

Supporting someone that is clearly out of his depth doesn't make sense in football. Football is emotional, but also results and performance driven and clubs aspire to do their best. That is the nature of the game and the nature of Manchester United. Fans seem to clash over that. I would be fully supportive of Ole if he showed some nous and talent, but he doesn't. He wont be here in a year's time, support or no support. He just isn't good enough. It isnt even a gamble, it is suicide at this point. There will always be rational thinking and performance evaluation, even if some fans cant accept it due to their extreme romanticism.

Every manager gets my support for the first season, no matter the circumstances, but if he isn't capable of performing to an acceptable degree and improving after a while in the second season, he should be off. I can distinguish between an ex player and the current manager. We all knew the chances were slim of an ex player turning out to be a great manager, and if Ole doesnt turn it around in the coming weeks by a miracle, he will be done. Going by what we see and what he says, it doesnt look like he knows how to make it, which is fine. He tried and it didnt work out, we move on. No shame in that.

Yep it’s just so much wasted time. Another season without top 4 when it was so easily attainable. Why are we always reactive rather than pro active?? We’re an absolute joke & don’t deserve top 4 thinking Ole is a good enough manager- it’s arrogance to be honest
We are very reactive, well said, I think that's been a big problem. Mourinho was supposed to stick around forever, we let him fire Warren Joyce after winning 3 of 4 Reserve League titles because he was reshaping the academy in his image. But as soon as Pogba gets benched he's out. Now the Reserves are relegated.

With Pogba(boo), McTom and Matic out, how do you think we should have lined up in midfield yesterday?
I would have brought back Mctomney. He's ready to play 2 days later shows that he's fit. It's a gamble but if it's deciding my fate then I would do it. Worse case I'd play garner or Levitt there. Maybe 60/40m of each. Sometimes we have to gamble.

Don't know where you're getting your rumours from but Ole is safe as houses for the foreseeable, and rightly so.

He may be now but that doesn't mean it cannot change. As I said I'm in his favor but he needs to show me more for me to keep my faith. With two tough games coming up win agsinst villa was a great opportunity to get 5th and some good will before entering the tough matches.

The season was ruined the moment we blew all our budget on defence while forgetting completely the midfield. But hey Ole got his Brexit FC, 2 very expensive players who while better then what we've got (who isn't at this rate?) are far from WC.

Lets see how we get on against Tottenham and City, we seem to play better(and get better results) in matches 99.8% of our fans(and I use the term lightly) think we'll get battered - two positive results and nobody apart from the moaning minnies will care about the result/performance against Villa.

Keep lying to yourself, all it takes is one call from Tampa for Ole's fate to be sealed. Woodward has absolutely no control over it and the sad part is when he get the instruction he will leak it to the press to humiliate Ole further. He is a dead man walking.

Games played wise this is ole's second season as our manager.

Interim, caretaker, permanent is just potato potahtoe, he's had 12 months to work with us that's for sure.

Still a great thread "oles won 4 in 14 in the league, beating one of the three promoted sides. We've played just about every shit teams and rarely looked good in that run, hes safe and why shouldn't he be, hes only had a year and gone backwards by every conceivable metric".

I love Ole but he really is out of his depth. It was a gamble and it backfired. I say stop the damage now and bring in Poch.

In a whole year, Ole hasn't been able to implement a system or style of play. At the end of the day its a results based business and even with our modest expectations, its been so disappointing.

Agree. Everyone should form their opinions based on two matches.

Speaks volumes that we're treating these two games as if we were relegation candidates and anything other than a loss would be a "positive result".

I think having a former legend managing us is proving to be a mistake because it makes it all the harder to come to terms with when things go wrong. It causes some people to have a complete break with reality as seen in the OP. We would all have loved Ole to work out but for the good of the football club we have to move on from this.

All this talk of 'proper football support' is just arrogant and silly. We all want to see United win games and be successful at the end of the day, people have different ideas on how to get there that's all. At this point no glory hunter is attaching their mast to United that's for sure, as I've seen from my casual colleagues who all suddenly adore Klopp and Liverpool.

Are you a Liverpool fan?

We are 9th in the league in December and he has a 27% win rate, with no signs of results or performances improving. This is completely unacceptable.

I'd say that Ole is as unsafe as it gets. He has the reached the point of no return. He will either be sacked before Xmas or after. He won't be nanaging Man Utd next season. Is this the safety that you are talking about?
Are you a Liverpool fan?
You'd bet he is. Let's how he reacts to our next manager.

The good old trust the youth maybe?

Garner or Levitt would not have done a worse job than either Fred or Perreira.

Fred can press but he gets turned so easily in midfield.

Perreira is just useless in every aspect.

Absolutely shocking, that midfield wouldn't even get into the championship. They have 0 fight.

The players aren’t good enough for a title challenge, that much is obvious, but they’re not bad enough to come close to justifying the job he’s doing.
Holy feck. 4 points?! From 8 games. Hes an absolute fraud and will drag us down into a relegation scrap, no doubt about that.

Yeah cos the Ole out crowd are gonna be swayed.
I consider myself neither an Ole Out nor a Moaning Minnie and I'll still be irritated by all our poor results this season, including Villa at home, because if we were to get say four points from the next two matches we're still likely to be ten points from fourth place. If we'd done better in even a handful of the Wolves, Palace, Southampton, West Ham, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Villa games (we should also have put Arsenal away) things would be looking much more rosy. As it is we're pissing about in 10th needing wins against Tottenham and City to avoid the risk of dropping into the bottom half of the table going into the festive period.

Did Ole over-estimated the capability of the squad at the end of last season and put himself in a weak position from the get go? After having considerable time to evaluate the situation, Ole felt that 2 new defenders was good enough for a top 4 challenge? The narrative has changed now, suddenly we were never after top 4 after all, "we're just looking to improve" but we all know better.

Either Ole is way out of his depth or the board blindsided him with the in's and out's this summer. A majority of fans saw how thin our midfield was and many predicted the troubles we're having now before the season even started, Ole didn't? I don't buy that. I'm convinced the board is the culprit.

Nobody wants to see Grads in the team more than me, I was calling for Greenwood to be in the squad before he was 17, and before the end of last season I wanted Williams to replace Shaw and said so on the forum, but you can't just throw an 18/19 year old into central-midfield as talented as Garner and Levitt are in a team low on confidence, it's madness and setting them up to fail.

Oh look they're coming out of the woodwork now - how very dare me try to remain upbeat, with the squad we've got 3rd was/is a possibility.
Coming out of the woodwork, what, actually never mind, move along and go WUM someone else.

So the option is play players we know cannot play that position? Perreira, Lingard, Fred have played CM / DM in the last 2 games. So lets not throw in CM because they are 18/19 and the team is low in confidence?

Why is Greenwood playing as RW at 18? when we have young, mata, lingard who can play that role?

Why is Williams starting at LB when we have Rojo, Young who can play there?

The theory of not throwing them because the team is low in confidence is a myth because if we were flying and high in confidence they wouldn't get a look in the team anyway. Look at Phil Foden.

I agree with you. The results are shit. That said, I would like to see him turn things around. It’s not only bad from my perspective. We have a young exciting team, but we need new players. Ole need to do better with what he got, no doubt about that either.

It might end bad for Ole, but I want to see if we are close to something. The toxic environment is gone. He can play exciting, but it’s inconsistent as feck.

If the board really trust him, they need to go hard in the transfer window. I would take Smalling back as well.
