I've changed my stance. Just sign any striker that can stay fit. Our injuries are beyond ridiculous.

I also worry about what will happen to Martial, once Haaland surpasses him we will be stuck with £250k sitting on the bench every week.
Good point. Also the only other place Martial has played for us is on the left. And just like that we're back to inconsistent performances on the wing and debates over who is better for that LW role, him or Rashford.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Haaland, Martial and Rashford can rotate, with two of them playing and one on the bench. If two of them are obviously outperforming the third then that combo will start most games, but it gives us that strength of depth to be able to rotate a bit and also cover for injury.

At a point where any semi-established striker with 14-17 goals a season who can play about 30-40 comp games fitness wise per season and i will be happy. Damn Ole/Woodward really did lowered the expectations didn't they?

"We shouldn't sign him because we have Martial, we should be signing AM/CM first before wasting money on luxury."

Fast forward, Martial is injured and we have to reshuffle our team. :(
[/QUOTE]

We can't cope without Martial, Pogba or McTominay. That's 3 signings equally needed. As soon as we can identify these 3 players and they are available we should be doing it. If Erling is first so be it.

We need competition in places. We need more quality. He also is a very different striker and can offer a lot more different approach. Martial Haaland Greenwood are three very different number 9s with all their own set of skills. Get it done!!

Why is that a worry? For that to happen what must be happening on the pitch would probably be an improvement of the dirge we see now.

Other teams have quality options anyway, would be nice to have that again.

One of the reasons to be excited over this possible transfer is that its pretty much the only big one where Ole is a benefit to us. If Ole is staying we should at least capitalize on that because very few other players are going to see Ole as the manager of the club and think thats where I want to go.

That was sort of my point, that the biggest concern is we will be paying Martial very handsomely to rot on the bench because Haaland will be outperforming him (should we sign him).

Just goes down in the book of terrible decisions made at this football club, doesn't it? The amount of baffling contractual decisions we've made in this one year alone is staggering.

I don't get it. Why would martial be stuck on the bench every week? We have only got Greenwood as our attacking bench option. You do need quality on the bench. You cant play your #9 every game of the season, that's ridiculous.

We wont go very far in any cup competition with Martial as our only striker. Rashford has no one pushing him the left. And we have James and Greenwood for the right as it stands. Not signing Haaland because.. 'Martial'? :houllier:

How long do I have to wait for us to sign a left footed right sided forward?

Mane - Firmino - Salah is perfectly balanced. So why does nobody think "hmm, why don't we TRY to play a balanced attack and see if that helps us not be shit?"

Can we get him to sign Odegaard whilst he's at it?

Would prefer Werner but no doubt Haaland has huge potential.
I'm abit sick with "potentials" at the moment. We're in so deep shit we cant even guarantee ourself a top 6 finish yet we're so high and mighty we spend 80m on a guy whose biggest feature is "potential".

This is not the time to be cocky with united value cliche (and there's no pride in youth if you actually have to pay 80m for him), flex our musle and buy quality, proven one even if they dont have the young passion and British narratives.

When was the last time our player who we deemed as having huge potential ever actually realized his potential with us. The last players i remember is Cristiano fecking Ronaldo, and i doubt that's all due to us (although with SAF he does contributed to ronaldo rise).

I 100% agree but that doesn't seem to be the way Ole/United want to go.

In all honesty it feels like we could go out and sign Messi and completely ruin him, it feels like even the best players would struggle here at United.

He has a lot of potential but he already has more goals in European competitions than Rashford or Martial.

He is a special talent who can make an instant impact IMO.

That's what we says on depay, rashford, martial, and many others.

We're not guaranteed with potentials. Best to just go for tried and tested for a few years until we're more stable.

This guy is already giving world class performances though. Similar things might have been said in here about Depay, Martial and Rashford (who all turned out to be good players), but their numbers and end product at 19 was nothing, absolutely nothing compared to what Haaland is doing now.
The talent, his physical attributes, the energy and hunger is unique, and I am convinced he will hit the ground running where ever he ends up.

I dont know. But for 80m there are choices less risky out there. Dont tell me our scout can't find something for 80m
For that kind of money you could get someone like Dybala, Werner or Dembele, who all could flop here with ease. At the same time they are old enough to have shown pretty much how big potential they have. None of them will turn into Ronaldo or Messi, while Haaland might do just that. I just want us to get back to being a world class team.

Done deal! My mates sister's aunt is a barmaid in a Cheshire pub, where Woody popped in for a shit on his way to the office. He was overheard on the phone talking to Alfie by the guy in the next Cubicle.
He said it was massive piece of business and that he is now gonna clean up.

Its unclear whether he was talking about his bowel evacuation or the transfer.

Since this forum is so full of negativity these days I'm looking on the optimistic side!

He also said Martial will have to suck it up.....Whatever that means!

He did add that it was a big job but he could handle it!

'sign someone else that's better!'
'who?'
'i dunno...'
Every single time. Usually followed by "I'm not paid to be a scout".

Only one of them is a striker. One of them doesn't want to join us. The other hasn't exactly pulled up trees at their current club.

Only one of them is a striker.
Not very important for me to argue this, but since you called me out on it:
All these three play as centre forwards (Werner 15/21 starts, Dembele 19/19 starts and Dybala 11/11 starts as centre forwards this season)
Werner can play left and Dybala can play deeper, but their main position is ST/FW.

Werner is the only one of those I'd like here, but I would much rather have Haaland.

Our new manager will have to decide on Haaland as Ole wont be here.
