The other team’s fixtures also went in our favour this weekend. Apart from a much needed win, every team below us tonight, with the exception of Brighton, either lost or drew.

That’s a double win for us.

A good 3 points at Bournemouth is needed now.

Grealish pick up an injury yesterday, could be a 2-3 week job so we'll certainly do much less counter attacking if he isn't available for your game.
Shame for my fantasy team as I've been planning to put him in as he's being played in a more advanced role now which suits him. Hopefully he's back soon anyway. After the Utd game of course.

14th place today and guaranteed 15th if we lose tomorrow at home to Brighton.

There are only 6 points between 5th and 17th and the relegation places are only 3 points behind that. At the end of tomorrow, if Villa win, there’ll only be 4 points between 5th and 17th.

A home win against Brighton would push us up to 7th, just a point behind the hapless Arsenal, but still only 8 points clear of relegation.

Bringing the “next 5” up to date....

Brighton H
Sheff Utd A
A Villa H
Spurs. H
City. A

My prediction, 2 wins, 1 draw & 2 losses.

I said in the 6 games before the derby we needed a bare minimum 12 from the 18 points for Ole to still be here. We took the first 3 at Norwich, slipped at Bournemouth. We need the 3 points today - anything but and Ole's on thin ice. Its crazy to think that with the exception of Norwich, all of those teams are above us in the league at the minute.

You have to factor in Europa &league cups games in too which impacts on league performance
You should get a decent return on those games
Norwich w
Bournemouth l
Brighton w
Sheff u d
Villa w
can’t see you getting top 4 to be honest
Right so far...

Looks like we are both on the same run. :D

Norwich - W. We really should win. They're so defensively bad and lost the majority of their games. City game was a fluke.
Bournemouth - L. We'll be back to being shite here.
Brighton - D. They'll park the bus and I doubt we'll find a solution.
Sheffield - D. Same. Has a banana skin written all over it.
Villa - W. They don't park the bus and the game is at home. Should be a win.

Call me crazy but I think we might win at City away. We are perfectly set up to play counter attack against the better teams and our results reflect that.

I also think they will be as good as out of the title race by that game. Can see them losing today and dropping another 2-3pys before the Derby so Liverpool will be as good as champions elect. Think they will turn their attention to winning their first CL trophy.

We've won there recently. It's not that silly. Derby games can be unpredictable.

I honestly don't think City look that great either. If they were to close the gap on Liverpool between now and the Derby then I will say they will probably beat us. However I don't think they will close it. I think they will fall further behind because without Laporte and Ederson they are there for the taking.

Not disagreeing with any of that, I just have a really hard time having any sort of optimism regarding this United team.

Depending on how many players we get back from injury after International break we could put 10/11 more Points on the board from the next 5 games.
3 wins 2 draws --- or 3 wins 1 draw and a loss.

I feel that way about today's game. We have done better this season against the better teams. Still unbeaten against Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea twice.

Same. I think we will struggle and went for a 1-1 in the predictions.

My words from 10 November - add in a derby win and I'd say Ole is meeting with my expectations. Hes starting to earn a crack at further re-building and taking us forward IMHO.

I did the exact same thread regarding the 5 fixtures before Spurs and it was a jinx.
Ended up getting 8 points from 15.

I'm going out on a limb and stating that our next five matches, although far weaker on paper than our games versus Spurs and City, will prove to be a larger test as to the character of this team than that shown in those two superb games vs top opposition.

Since Ole has taken over, it has been proven since the beginning that Ole's United do not struggle against top sides that play expansive football against us, since our counter-attacking emphasis flourishes in these circumstances. Rather, many of the points dropped have been in games when we've played abysmally versus teams that sit behind the ball, invite the pressure and counter us. We have plenty of answers for top clubs who give us spaces, but we have few answers for little clubs who ask us to break down their deep defensive lines.

This is why we shouldn't take too much from these last two games. They're not the type of games we've struggled with most.

Norwich, Bournemouth, Brighton, Sheff. Utd and Villa will tell us much more about this team than the wins versus City and Spurs.

Can we break down deep, defensive lines? That's the question.

This is not true, sorry. We scored 5 in the last 2 games with the deep defensive lines. So we can score. We should defend better. What did we just do in the last 2 games? We scored the same but defended better. We will start reaping the fruit of this mental strength as soon as confidence is sky rocketing in this team. And our best player could make it even better. We are figuring things out now.

Update Next 5 fixture

12/15 Everton (H)
12/22 Watford (A)
12/26 Newcastle (H)
12/28 Burnley (A)
1/1 Arsenal (A)

(Excluding AZ(H) & Colchester(H))

All oppenent teams are below 9th(Arse  ).
We need to take points in these schedule.
I think Everton could be tough match.

My prediction: WWWWD
(Arsenal is shit, but their form could be changed by managerial situation(ex: new full-charge manager appointment)

I think you've misinterpreted. I'm not referring to our defensive line, deep or otherwise. I'm referring to the fact that this season we've struggled most against others who have employed a deep defensive line, in contrast to the last two games where the opposition did not play deep, hence the counter-attacking being incredibly efficient.

We fall back when we have a 1/2 goal lead instead of keep going the way we were, and looking to kill off games. We always concede when we fall back. I hate to see Pereira coming on for Martial, or some other forward.

You are misunderstanding my post. We scored against those so called deep defensive lines like Sheffield or Villa, and we scored 5. So if we defend better, we will get the 3 pts. In the last 2 games, we have played against teams who can attack and we defended better. I think we can go on a run as soon as we can get Fred and Scott fit, and Pogba is not even back yet.

We have to manage the fitness. At some point the squad will be stronger mentally and keep the clean sheet. We should have scored 4 in the first half anyway. That’s the next improvement.

While I agree with everything you say, I think there's an additional factor that's important. That's the fact the team itself seems to be behind Ole at the moment. If they weren't I don't think we would have seen such strong performances over the last two matches when there was talk in the air of sacking. It certainly makes for a less dreary scenario.

Despite the results not going our way, when this thread was created, the 6 pts against Spurs and City were for the most part not anticipated so points wise we’re close to where we thoughtwe’d be.

Now, it’s time to push on and have a productive Dec and Christmas/New Year.

Next up Everton, who looked great yesterday under Duncan Ferguson.
