Has he? The House is yet to vote.
Ah feck you’re right. I thought it was the house judiciary that had just voted to impeach after house intelligence had passed it over to them but yeah turns out they have just approved the articles.

It’s been a long 24 hours

Some Dems are saying they won't vote for impeachment. I hate politicians with a passion.
Why does every political decision depend on what helps you retain your seat?
Do what's right ffs!
Politicians should be barred from running more than once.

The other thing I thought was to be voted in for a 2nd term the bar should be higher than just more than your opponent, like maybe needs 2/3rds of the vote or something like that. If you truly did a great job then that should be reflected in your numbers no?

I just don't understand the calculus from them either - so you are going to vote in line with the GOP on everything because otherwise the GOP will attack you? What is the point of their existence?

Rumours are Trump has dirt on Graham and many other Republican Senators and cabinet members, hence their undying loyalty to him.

I don't often buy in to conspiracy theories but I can't deny that one makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider the recent Epstein connections etc.

I don't think he has dirt, I just think they recognize that the GOP is now the party of Trump. Dissenters are either primaried or retire before they can be primaried. That, and many GOP politicians are thoroughly unprincipled, power-hungry fiends. Graham more so than anyone else.

I thought that to a certain extent for a while but the actions of many, especially Graham and Ted Cruz make me think differently. Their loyalty goes way beyond party solidarity. Their actions apoear more scripted or promoted out of fear than natural response or personal opinion or beleif.

I reckon he has many of them by the short and curlies, if not, definitely their wallets.

I think the best piece of evidence against this is that Cruz, for example, only went from anti-Trump to bootlicker when he was defeated in the primary. If Trump had anything on him, there's no way Trump's ultra-fragile ego would have allowed him to tolerate the kinds of personal attacks he received from Cruz.

Their actions are definitely promoted out of fear, but not the fear that Trump is going to release some document or recording. Rather, the fear that their bright futures in the GOP and politics will be destroyed, and with it their source of power and wealth.

Before 2016 elections when the democratic party's emails were hacked, based on reports the republican party emails were also hacked. But nothing included in those emails ever came out or were leaked by wikileaks. So who knows ...

The reason Ted Cruz is acting like this is because he needs Trump's base to follow him after Ivanka's 8 years. Acting like this is what give's Ted the nomination and the presidency. It is a proven path to get elected President now.
Why Graham acts like this is a mystery to me. For him to remain senator he just needs to act like Rubio, a cnut filling with a turd topping which is somewhat palatable as far as GOP go.

If the Russians have kompromat on Trump it seems logical that they would provide him with kompromat on a number of Senators to ensure they dance to his tune.

Cruz will never be president. He can kiss Trumps ass forever but Trump is still just as likely to stab him in the back at the last minute just to be a cnut. It’s incredible that these idiots think he can be trusted in any way.

Nothing is surprising anymore. It will be opening remarks which will be mostly from Republicans, pushing Nunes and Jordan level conspiracy theories, then they will vote it down and wrap it up nice and quickly within the first day.

I remember a little while ago talking about how America could end up in a dictatorship with this Republican party enabling Trump. It’s no longer a question of whether they will or won’t. They are very much there and it really doesn’t help that we’ve got Trumplite in power over here now.

Ok can someone smarter please explain this to me because my understanding is very surface level. Why are they trying to impeach him, when all the evidence (from what I can tell) suggests that it would get shot down by the senate. What’s the end game? And just how much does the average American actually care whether or not trump tried to get Ukrainians to investigate a rival?

The reasons for impeachment hover between doing the right thing and political moves to make him look bad.

As far as the average American goes, it depends on who you ask. Some are so far up Trump’s ass that it doesn’t matter what comes out about Trump. Some will buy the narrative that it’s Democrats acting out of line. Some people will absolutely want him impeached. Personally I’m convinced that most people are selfish to a tee and only care about what’s good for them and nobody else. I literally know people who would be happy with Trump just because they are happy they have a job. feck them, seriously.

The letter "he" wrote to Pelosi was very much composed to rile up the base and talk in layman's terms to paint the Dems as enemies of the people. Unlike what some are saying already - that letter is not unhinged and was very clearly written by someone who knows exactly how to get into people s heads/with political expertise. It rolls into pointing himself as the centrist and savior of normally of this country. Fortunately it's too long for most people to read I guess because some (many) folks might be convinced by it. Expect people to start quoting bits from it incessantly as much as they quote Hannity soundbites.

Yet again Donnie pointed to one of the most corrupt and and violent places on earth (Guatemala) today as an example of a country that would deal with it properly. Read all the comments online by Trump fanatics - they re getting more and more riled up as if they re preparing for some kind of holy war against the non believers. What a fkin time.

Mitch McConnell seems the absolute pits. Knew I had seen his doppelganger before.

He is absolutely bricking it. He wont be removed but can't live with the fact that his name will forever be linked with having been impeached.
That is the crux of it. He beat Clinton using the line of Bill being impeached (rightfully so) and his ego will take such a battering being only the 3rd and knowing his name will be forever linked with impeachment.

I used to think impeachment occured in the US when a president violated some rules. I didn't know there was a vote to determine his fate. Isn't that likely to be rejected like many bills republicans dislike would? I saw Andrew Yang say that Democrats should be realistic and don't have the numbers to get it done. So for me, all the 'its an open and shut case etc' talk I've been seeing from the late night shows is all well and good but a vote being required changes everything doesn't it?

This impeachment and conviction system is failing because the Republicans have decided act like a mob with Trump as their mob leader instead of acting as actual elected congress people. So I don't see the point of blaming the democrats for impeaching and trying to remove him to at least bring a measure of checks and balance when you know the number of stuff that Trump has done are clearly impeachable by any measure and by the constitution. If Democrats just base everything on whether the Republicans would go along with them, then Trump basically has a license to be a dictator only with an election in his way (and he isn't far away from medling or voiding election results citing voting fraud and such given what he has already said).
