Looks to me like he plays a largely similar role to Pogba. If we sign Ñíguez I reckon Pogba is off.
He's not that similar to Pogba. I think he would work extremely well in a midfield with Pogba though. He's got an incredible engine and can do a lot of things really well but he lacks Pogba's overall creativity. I think he could be perfect as sort of helping Pogba with the workload and then helping the other midfielder cover for Pogba when we don't have the ball. Almost a perfect midfield signing IMO.

Isn't that what Mcctominay does? I think if we're keeping Pogba we need another defensive minded yet creative player. I wonder why we're not in for Partey. My reason is because last season Pogba being our only creative source was quickly found out by other teams and they began to mark him out. There is no one else to create for us in the team if Pogba is marked out or having bad game

Yes, that’s basically what McTominay does, just not at the same level as Saul. He’d be an improvement and an addition to our top class players, of which we are short.

Saul is more attacking than Scott. He’s also far more talented. I like McTominay but he’s not irreplaceable IMO. If an opportunity to sign a player the caliber of Saul emerges you take it.

Partey would be a great signing. He’s not a designated DM though he is more defensive than Saul.

That sort of stuff makes me weep. The mistakes we've made since Fergie....
Yeah who can forget our clueless scouts turning their noses up at Frenkie De Jong and De Ligt, wow we truly have lost the plot with regards to transfers since Gill left, we certainly have that knack of turning down potential gems for a bargain price before buying them at a premium a few years later.

If there's even an inkling that Atletico will do business for £126 million in January, then we should just take it on the chin and get him in January. Our season has gone down the shitter and not having a central midfielder with a creative bone in their body has been our downfall.

If we decide to go the Championship route in January, then Han-Noah Massengo is an 18 year old at Bristol likened to Modric.

I think we should buy Longstaff also in January if he's available. He may not be the answer but it would mean finally having a deep-lying/defensive midfielder we can develop.

Why on earth would he come to us? It would be a huge step down for him. Playing for a regular CL club at the moment under a competent manager.

Absolute nonsense rumour. We aren't going to get a player of his calibre with where we are.

Saul and Longstaff would be excellent business. Longstaff has energy and can pass long and short, and I think can be developed over the next two years into a good DM.

What is this attraction with signing Longstaff, he hasn't proved Premier league quality never mind good enough for United. Saul is exactly the type of player we need to come straight in an make a deference, world class.

Yeah I don’t get the Longstaff fascination, seems decent but average overall.

If anything I’d prefer the younger brother who scored twice against us.

Would prefer McGinn over both the Longstaffs - apart from the ankle fracture.

We all know Saul is the best option but Ole sees british or PL proven as the only way to go with transfers which worries me greatly.

If he’s been scouted by the current team, then they’ll know all about him, he’s got 1 year left on his deal in the summer. The attraction is obviously from the manager, who’s thus far been very good with his purchases.
Saul would be the superstar replacement and is a much better player, but we can’t have a team of superstars. We’re very short of midfielders and Matic will be gone soon and we’ll end up with Fred and McTommy for every game. Club needs a minimum of 2 or possibly 4 new midfielders this summer.

No he doesn’t, he wanted a Norwegian striker who plays in the Austrian league a few weeks ago. Stop cycling the tired old lies it’s tedious.

Obviously ten times the player compared to someone like fecking Longstaff but also a player we have no chance of landing.

Some fans need to learn to let go. The Saul thing and the Havertz thing is never gonna happen. If you can learn to let go, it can be very healing for you.

One of Koke or Saul was really slow against Liverpool imo, I couldn't figure out which one at the time. I wasn't particularly impressed with either tbh. But, as @Haddock mentioned, it could be Simeone's tactics.

Love Saul, but even PSG wouldn't be paying those kind of prices for him, especially with his miles on the clock. £70m odd would be a push, despite his quality.

He’s a brilliant player. A proper PL player I think, he’d be class here. That said, our midfield has taken a different direction now and he’s not a player we need.

It's funny that saul gets all the transfer links but not koke who is also a great midfielder himself and would happily have at United.

He is fantastic, I agree. But for me he's more Mr Atletico than Saul, even harder to attain.

Koke is a great player but yes, he is Atletico to the core. He is going nowhere. Saul did not grow up an Atletico fan whereas Koke's entire family are Colchoneros. With those prices for Saul though he is also unattainable and he has a lengthy contract. Thomas Partey has been better than both over the last 12 months and though he has great loyalty he may fancy a move more and has a relatively paltry release clause. He'd also be far more use to us because he specializes in the CDM role.

Haven’t watched much of them this year but on reports I’ve seen Saul has supposedly been their best player this season and even who scored has him as their highest rated player.

I’d rather have Saul because generally I think he is a far better footballer and I’m not sure we really need someone like Partey. Either or I’m not really fussed and would happily take either but I think we will probably look elsewhere for a more defensively inclined midfielder.
