Great game to watch. The Bundesliga is fun so far this season. Let's hope it will continue like this.

Well that aged well...
Unfortunately. But this illustrates the problems of the current BVB side: technicaly highly gifted, but lacking in mental strenght. I blame Favre for that. But honestly, iam still surpised by the great football we played. Its astonishing how well they can play if you let them and don't slow them down (like in the begining of the season).

Well Burki has been that way all over, highly skilled saves and horrendous mistakes bringing back opponets or gifting them the win. Imo his overall package is not enough for clubs like Dortmund.

About Favre I have my doubts too. While he was able to let teams overperform (Hertha, Ponys), he also had a quick come back to earth with the teams (I think the hardest was with Hertha, while they were on the road to become champions but hardly got any points the last 8 or so matches).

Dortmund must, also for Bundesliga's sake, establish itself as the 2nd giant in Germany. They have a big fan-base, huge stadium, top 3 average in spectators. Right now they are missing a top coach (Poch, ten Haag) and a transfer policy to not allow any of the good players leave to Bayern (like Lewandowski, Hummels, Goetze).

Man - where would folks say Lewandowski ranks these days in the hall of fame of striker greats? Surely top 5 now?
All time? No way, he'd be the 2nd best Bayern striker ever behind Gerd Muller, although Karl Heinz would push him for 2nd.

Otherwise you have Ronaldo, Van Basten, Pele etc. I still feel Lewandowski hasn't done enough in the latter stages of the UCL to warrent being next to greats mentioned previously.

We somehow have stopped playing and Freiburg equalized and could be ahead.

Fair enough. Was just thinking of his stats alone - not necessarily what it lead to.

That's 54 goals for club and country for Lewandowski, five ahead of Messi for the calendar year goal scoring tally with one remaining match each.

Lewa's second 50+ goal haul in a calendar year (2017 - 53).

Crazy finish to that game, Freiburg really pushed us. The result of 3-1 doesn't tell half the story of this match, but that's fine from our point of view.

Zirkzee, remember the name.
Dutch media is calling him the new Van Hooijdonk, though I suspect it's because of the hair..

Is he the real deal? Finally a new number 9 that will do our national team proud after years of Vincent Jansen, Luuk de Jong and Bas Dost?

Well.. after 8 minutes of first team football this question is ripe for a conclusive answer! ;)

What happend to Bas Dost in the national team? Back at Wolfsburg when he was playing with KdB and Perisic he was looking terrific and even in Portugal he kept scoring like a goal a game. How is it he has 1 in 18 for Oranje?

Also what about those rumours of Hertha trying to sign Götze and Weigl? Would Götze stoop that low? How could Hertha afford his wages, when Dortmund wouldn't? Sounded to me like someone took a leaf out of the English press's textbook, but Klinsmann didn't deny when asked about the former.
To round that off they are supposedly still hoping to sign Kovac. I wonder how that would turn out.. signing the guy who made his name relying on guys like Boateng and Rebic and then telling him that Götze, who for all his technical brilliance has next to no physical presence, is now the undisputed star of the club.

Bas Dost no longer wants to play for Oranje because he felt he was treated unfairly. In all honesty, he was simply shite for Holland. He also doesn't fit our need for a footballing 9 instead of a static target man.

former coach Ewald Lienen said Zirkzee reminded him of the young Gullit :houllier: yeah right, forget about position, physique, playing style; its the curly hair, folks.
Lienen, on the other hand, reminds some of a young Frank Drebin.

Zirkzee made an impression when he scored 4x in his first few matches for FC Bayern II last season, while technically still eligible to play like two youth classes lower. This season, he didn't have that much success yet but the talent is undeniable; he may be headed for first team but i don't think it will happen this year or even next.

He's a flat track bully, tbh. Would be handy when facing those teams that sit deep and you need someone in the box to occupy the defenders, but a total liability against top teams.
When Jorge Jesus was at Sporting, he sometimes would bench him on big matches.

It's really impressive how Hakimi keeps creating big problems for Hoffenheim just with his athleticism, whenever there is a bit of space behind their back line they are just unable to cover his runs.

So many chances for Dortmund to score, really can't blame Favre for losing Hummels to injury because the defence fell apart without him and the attackers couldn't connect with simple crossing opportunities.

Hakimi and Sancho were poor in the second half, had so many chances to deliver crosses in but non connected. Brandt was brilliant though, again, in the CM position. He makes the Dortmund attack tick.

I think the main reason (finishing aside, though perhaps connected) for today's loss was that Favre was under so much pressure he didn't find the room to rotate and together with the injuries the team was basically done after 60 minutes. JBL shouldn't play for a club like Dortmund, if they want to persist with this 343 they need to add at least another attacker preferably an early replacement for Sancho.

Interesting developments at the bottom end.
Bremen with 1 win and 1 draw in 8. Losing 1-0 against the bottom two and getting hammered twice by Bayern and Mainz!
Düsseldorf don't look too crisp either with 2 points from their last 6 games.
Cologne on the other hand finished the year with 9 out of 3, after a streak similar to Bremen's and even Paderborn could get within 2 points of the playoff spot if they beat Frankfurt at home tomorrow, who are also on a horrible run, recording their last league win against Bayern.

Nothing about Nubel joining Bayern for free at the end of the season?

Massive signing, he really looks a top keeping prospect and can replace Neuer in a few years, though Neuer isn't old himself.

Really depends on for how long Neuer wants to play because you can't see Bayern benching him if he wants to continue to play. Would Nubel had been better off staying at Schalke or going to another club and joining Bayern later?

bizarre decision on his part. I dont get the fuss about him, but it doesnt make sense for him one way or another. Neuer is going to renew his contract and bar a big injury, his chances to replace Neuer are close to zero. Schalke offered him a good contract with a low buy-out clause (20m€). 20m€ is nothing for a top class keeper in todays market. He has everything to prove to be worth that, but thats a very low bar and extremely generous from Schalke. Thats more or less the same money, that bayern is going to pay in sign-on fee+wage. He is 23 and started ~40 matches. He should be playing week-in-week-out, not waiting on the bayern bench for 2 years+. Nobody is winning in this.

The whole story is a complete clusterfeck, starting with Schalke forgetting to exercise an option to extend his contract, then making him captain in the summer, then putting "we don't need to understand his decision" in their official statement, when Schalke's fans already like nothing more than turning nasty on players who leave them (not the first time the club did something like that -> Goretzka) and of course Nübel apparently joining Bayern, when he has one season to his name at age 23 and Neuer just extended his contract.

Unfortunately today Stuttgart sacked Tim Walter, perhaps the most interesting coach in Germany after Nagelsmann. I would love to see his approach at a big club, but this is a significant set back.

Especially strange since Neuer has reached a very good standard again this year, and seems to have a late career at top level in him. He's always been an ambitious bastard and I'm quite sure he'll look to get the most out of the next three seasons. There are rumours that Bayern wants to bench him often enough to give Nübel sufficient playing time - can't really imagine that working too well, tbh. If there's no medical information we don't know about, or a loan on the cards, this could be another Rensing situation.

But they must have some kind of plan, so it remains to be seen how it all plays out.

You're overrating our board and we don't even have a coach for next season and still work with an interim one. So how can there be a plan about Nübel's playing time?

If Nübel signs a contract at Bayern now, he's just stupid considering Schalke's offer. He should have stayed.

Well yes, one shouldn't do that

But they must have promised Nübel something, and I'm curious what it is. Can't really think of anything making any sense except a loan. Warming the bench for three years and waiting for Neuer to get injured again couldn't have been it.

Yea a 20 mill release clause is nothing. Apparently Brazzo convinced him with a plan

Hopefully he does go on loan to develop more, Barcelona, A. Madrid and Milan were interested and you could certainly say A.Madrid wouldve been a great option if Oblak would leave.

Someone mentioned Rensing, that's a good example because he was also really talented but ultimately didn't have enough first team experience before being given the starting role. He was a really good shot stopper as well but really inconsistent.

Hope he does well because I like him alot, better than Horn imo.

It makes sense from Bayern’s point of view (no fee, wages not too high), but Nübel has some explaining to do.
let‘s wait for Bayern to confirm first, but they seem the obvious decision

If he's allowing himself to be convinced by fecking Salihamidzicz his fate as a benchwarmer definitely serves him right

Schalke continues to lose its jewelery for free, great to see. Nübel has to be stupid to make this move. In the end its a lose-lose situation for him and Schalke.

Can you explain why you are thinking that? The article about his tactics is interesting. But can he motivate? Can he moderate a lockerroom? Why they sacked him? I don't follow 2. Bundesliga close at the moment.

Imagine if they sign Xhaka as well, no one will be safe. They can set aside a substitution for them each game if they want to finish with 11 men.

He's been sent off twice in 69 games for Stuttgart, that's hardly remarkable. A lineup fielding him, Xhaka, Ibisevic, Selke and Rekik would be quite funny though..the referee wouldn't know where to look.

This year his stats look fairly innocent, but the two seasons before he got 10 yellow cards each and missed 10/68 games due to being suspended.

I really don't know what Hertha's plan is, signing one player like Ascacibar is fine I guess, he's not that expensive.. but Xhaka on top? And then Götze and Draxler, too? To go for players with these kind of wages sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
