I may be the devil, but i'm not a monster
With all the agent fees, payments to father, release clauses etc you can see why the club pulled out. Their plan is clearly to move him to another club in a couple of years. We aren't a stepping stone club and shouldn't be signing players that don't want a long future here or would move elsewhere for the sake of enriching agents/fathers etc.

I would have liked him here but it's certainly not the end of the world.
Players demanding playing time is a instant no no for me. As soon as you guarantee playing time, they will hold it over you (see Lukaku).

The risk for him with us is that he'd be coming to the most intense league in the world where he may not be better than our current options.

I don't get this "it was the right move for him" bs. This has Raiola written all over it. He will have convinced him that "it's the right move" with the eye on a big transfer later knowing that BVB will only keep him for so long. However, if it were us to pay his low release clause there may not be another move, hense a piece of the transfer money (which I'm sure will be written into his BVB contract). Sure, Dortmund is very well known for playing young players, but so are we. Big difference is we are not a feeder club like they are. This sucks. Now the only way we get him is if we make a big money transfer for him in a couple of years...

“Bs” @SadlerMUFC come on man.

Option 1. Joins the pressure cooker at Juve or United now at 19 years old, start slow and remain a squad player behind Martial, Higuain etc for a couple of years. No chance to move on from such huge powerhouses that have no interest in selling, hoping for a loan move to really prove himself. At United even being successful might end you in a Pogba situation, unable to leave a club going nowhere for years and winning nothing.

Option 2. Join the strikerless second biggest club in Germany, a place proven to be excellent at nurturing talent and much less pressure than said clubs above. Have a decent buyout clause written into your contract so that if you have 2-3 great years you have the pick of the football World to chose from. Real, Barca, Juve, United, Liverpool, Chelsea, City... basically whoever is the best choice then.

It’s not bullshit at all, it’s an unbelievable deal for him.

Really wanted this one to happen. Don't think we have a chance of signing him unless it is for stupid money in a few years but think he will eventually go Bayern as replacement for Lewandowski :(

We made the correct decision in moving away from signing him if the father and player were making demands about a release clause etc.

It actually serves us better to sign a more experienced forward who would hopefully be good at holding the ball with his back to goal and is also good aerially.

I mean obviously they don't care but in 2 years time if Dortmund are forced to sell what could be a 30 goal a season striker for that then they've obviously had their pants down
Looking at this doesn’t feel like sell on fees is something they worry about

Ignore me that was arrivals obviously they have had one huge departure and some fairly decent fees :wenger:

Absolutely, but they got him for 17m right so it’s still a large profit and they should get 2-3 years great service out of him.

It’s a fabulous deal for all although yeah, Dortmund could still end up feeling slightly aggrieved if he ends up very very special.

That’s crazy if true. €32.5M outlay not including wages. If you allow 20% total to cover both sell ons (Salzburg/his dad), they’d make €7.5M profit. He could be a revelation in Bundesliga up to the summer, only for Bayern to come in snap him up, and they have a 7.5m profit to show for it.

Sounds concerning and can understand why we pulled out, IF all this is true, high risk and even if successful, you have to start over and find a new man potentially 6 to 18 months after bringing him in.

Didn't realise that it is a €50m release clause. If we keeps on progressing and we do have a chance of getting him in a few years time that would be a good piece of business.
Still be Riola as his agent presumably though which puts me off.

Who cares. People got too caught up in the hype. Our priority is still a midfielder, we should sign a forward more reliable/realized to complement our young forward line.

This whole thing has stunk of Raiola for weeks. Very glad he hasn’t come here.
What an arsehole he is getting his player a great opportunity at a great club for young players, a club with great support and strikerless, and to boot he’s got him a low release clause so that he can learn in Dortmund and if he impresses, in 2-3 years time he’ll have his pick of the football World.

Stinks right, I mean, what a fantastic deal for the player.

Never thought we would sign him and have zero hope that we will sign anyone else either.

Would have loved him here. But I'm glad we didn't cave into that fat cnut Raiola. I think this might also mean that Pogba is off. After Pogba, I hope just completely cut business ties with Raiola. His players always seem to bring a toxic vibe.

Agreed. United don’t do release clauses, and rightfully so. Unless it’s in the 400 million pounds region.

You are still investing a considerable amount of time and money on a 19 year kid . There is going to be a sell-on % as well.

Not exactly sure if it's a great deal for Dortmund and I dont think it's true. They are not dump.

They have no striker and they just picked up a hot hot property for no money, it’s a great deal. They potentially have a tremendous striker for at least 2 years and at the end, they’ll make a bit too.

He would likely be a squad player at Juve, but not here. The #9 position would be shared between him and Martial. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up playing more in the second half of the season than Martial would...

Raiola only ever has the player’s best interests at heart, after all.

That isn’t the point though, United have Martial. Dortmund have no-one and much less pressure.
He’s 19 and the release clause makes it a deal he simply couldn’t refuse.

And funnily enough fantastic deal for himself.
