Football is a small world, everybody knows what"s happening, everybody talks to everybody, the agents know a lot of shadow details thanks to their contacts.
In that little world, they all know that United project is at a standstill. Weak squad, weak coach, weak ambition. No CL to play this year and few chance to play it next year also.
What kind of message the board could have delivered to Haaland ? We don't even know if they talked to him. On the other hand, you can be sure that Dortmund squad talked to the player and presented him a strong project on every aspect.
The only way for United to get out of this situation is to make a massive investment to regenerate this medium quality squad built years after years on mistakes and lazyness. But the board have no clue about how doing it well.
Today even against BVB, United have no chance. Every agent will advise their player to find a better way out.

Makes perfect sense from Haaland point of view, and from their perspective, is also good advice and career management from Raiola.

There are just too many risks for a young developing footballer to join us right now: Manchester United team is in flux, OGS future is uncertain, and we also have decent talent at Centre Forward.

Sancho or another right winger is the position we need fixed most

You win some,you lose some.
Yeah, but why did United have to talk shit about the deal just because they didnt get him? Can affect any future chance of getting him by offending the player, his dad and the agent.

It must have been a press brief since so many of the journalists said the same. They did the same with Dybala and it just stinks big time.

Did they get briefed or did they quote one outlet? I also don't think Haaland or Raiola will hold any grudge in the future.

We're a Martial and Greenwood injury away from this thread going nuclear.

Thats the spirit.

We did the right thing for once . There are proven strikers out there who don't come with a leech like Raiola .

There are no more release clauses in the contracts of BVB. Since years. This "rumour" is BS.

Assuming the release clause is true this is actually a much better scenario for us than if we had signed him. Now we can be in the running to sign him in 2/3 years time rather than being the sitting duck having to sell him on.

I don't believe there is a 50€m release clause. After Götze Dortmund said they don't do clauses any more. And so far they kept their word. And even if, 50m would be way too cheap.

Raiola gave interview to telegraph to clear the rumors.

Said there is no buy out clause.
He made sure he will get at least one more fat pay check by pushing him to Dortmund. That or the kid lacks ambition to reject United and Juve for a second rate club.

The arrogance.

Dortmund has had a better decade than United. Even after Klopp left they were still better than United and they still are.

So why the lad lacks ambition? He has more competitive chances with BVB than he has with United. So is United a third rate club (if BVB is a second rate club)? The only reason he would have chosen United over BVB could have been money, not ambition.

No matter what anyone says there is no positive in this, Ole obviously wanted him, and we didn't get him, it's disappointing.

And I do not buy for one second that we didn't know all these 'clauses' before Ed and Ole went out to see him, he just went for Dortmund over us, but that could have been down to having less competition for a place there than he does here, but that's a whole different spin to the story we're putting out just now.

Marginally better. Two leagues at the start of the decade (where we were still better under Fergie) and then its been downhill since. We've been poor but at least we won a european trophy. I think the point though is that he took the safer option of playing in an easier league, at a smaller club with less expectations. Plus the general consensus is that young players signing for Dortmund are just auditioning for the Bayern move.

:houllier: That man has a history of whoring his players to as many clubs as possible during their career. Zlatan had something like 7 clubs, Pogba 2 (or 3 if you count United twice) and it's desperate to push him to a 3ed/4th; pushing a young 19 yo to a club that he knows is not going to be where he settles ensures at least another move if not two. It's not arrogance it's hatred for these snake oil salesman that make a killing financially by bringing no added value to the game. There is no such thing as a stepping stone club in football; you can come from the lower leagues (Robertson, James) lower championships (Ole Molde) it doesn't matter, the whole point for a football player is to play for the big boys, the big money, fame, trophies, etc. This steeping stone argument is a bs made by agents to milk a player and club as much as possible. It helps no one except themselves and that's why many managers and clubs hate them.

As far as Halland, i rate him and i wanted him, but i rate Martial better right now and Greenwood is a better prospect imo; so i'm not to bothered here. It would have been nice, but not a great loss.

The misinformation on Raiola and how it's being spun to give some sort of redemption as to why United lost out on this player is really petty. The fact is, Raiola is not a monster or a greedy bastard only out for himself, otherwise do you really believe all of these great players would stick with him? How the feck do you believe that he gets a 15m cut off a 20m transfer? I mean, forget being ignorant, that's just plain stupidity to buy that. It's pretty much set now that he never had a release clause included. This whole media briefing stinks and reeks of big egos that got hurt on this one, and some of the fans are eating it up and acting as if this was a good thing because Raiola is the second coming of the antichrist.

I am pretty sure a big percentage of the agent fees in these big transfers gets routed back to the player's accounts and that is the whole reason they hire these guys in the first place.

That is true. BVB do not believe in release clauses and do not use them. This is called a snub. Nothing more nothing less. How could united not be able to get this player is the problem. They should have paid more for the potential he would have in the Premier League. Great business from BVB

Meh, people need to relax a bit. It's not like we've missed signing an Mbappe, Hazard or Sancho or even De Ligt. He'd come here only to compete with Greenwood for the occasional chance to play.
Mmm I think that opinion will come back to bite. Anyone can see that the lad is a goal scorer and will score goals wherever

Could well be, mate. I don't dispute that.

I just don't think we needed him as badly as is being made out.
Obviously we have 2 good strikers in Rashford and martial, and one with high potential in Greenwood, BUT.. Martial has been prone to injuries and only this season has Rashford found consistency coming in from the left (not so good down the middle). We need someone extra. We won’t carry a title challenge with only 3 forwards
(Liverpool for example have Mane, Firmino, Salah, Origi and now the lad from Salsburg)

True, but my opinion is that we may be better off getting someone with more experience to complement the current lot. I've not got any names, but it might really be more useful to have an experienced head in the squad. Fergie would definitely have one I think!

Bild were the only ones weeks ago saying that we were not Erling's first choice. All other media was pretty much saying we had it wrapped up.

Except tis decade even with how awful we have been we have actually won the same amount of league titles, more domestic cups, more European trophies and been to the CL final the same amount of times.

I actually agree with him going to Dortmund because he will play more and be able to develop better in my opinion.

“I do not know if Manchester United are briefing this but if they are then they are covering their own loss and that I find strange and disappointing,” Raiola said over the claims of insisting on a buy-out clause and other demands leading to the transfer to Old Trafford not happening.

And people think it's fine to deal with this agent? He talks too much trash for my liking.

Players like him because he does his job well? It’s not difficult to understand.

He openly trashes our club in public, so it’s no wonder our fan base isn’t particularly fond of him.

Never seen much of Origi (he scored only 33 goals in 122 games for Liverpool), Liverpool for majority of time only play Salah, Maine, Firmino, all 3 of them are amazing, with some average lad called Origi as backup, whom nobody cares. If Liverpool can't play any 2 of both Salah, Mane or Firmino, they will be in trouble too. Sure their new player from Salsburg are good addition for backup purpose.

We have Rashford, Martial, Greenwood and James for attack 3. At least all four of them are exciting. We only need 1 more average backup, someone like Origi whom nobody cares, but prefer also with experience.

If it's fake though not sure if that Twitter account is the one who faked it or that Italian newspaper.
Good question. If I were Raiola I would be putting it out there that I was putting it in the hands of the my lawyers as someone is printing fake quotes from him. Scare the sh*t out of someone.

I mean we all know Mino likes to talk a lot, but in this case he kind of only defended himself against somewhat nasty (if untrue) accusations against him and Haaland senior.

Origi has scored the big goals that have counted. I wouldn’t discount him as average backup

What did the Telegraph report that was so nasty, that we didn't want to pay his fees?

That United turned down Haaland, because Mino and Haaland Sr made exceptionally greedy demands.
