As long as we have Lingard playing the #10 we’re not going to win games. A #10 should be that player who knits together the midfield and forward line. Lingard just goes missing time and time again. How many times tonight did he not show for a pass when Matic and Fred had the ball? We need to spend some money this month to give us a kick up the backside. We’ve not got enough depth and we’re relying on an 18 year old kid to change the game off the bench.

As the season goes on,starting to look more and more like Leicester pulled an absolute blinder getting a world record fee for Maguire.

He hasn't looked ang better than Mike Smalling since his first month and they were able to replace him seamlessly with a player who's looked superior to him all season

Although I did think RVPs point just before was more pertinent.

He said Ferguson would tell them if you don't do what I want you're out of the team.

Without getting into who's fault it is, with the squad so thin Ole can't really do that which would mean there's less of a fear factor than there should be.
I 100% agree!

Severe lack of quality and care out there today. Felt sorry for Martial. Thought he worked his arse off and no one else around him could be bothered. The Fred free kick at the end summed up the game for us.

You implying they’re downing tools on Ole?
Absolutely not but he’s not reaching them and his presence makes absolutely no difference one way or another. That doesn’t mean they’re downing tools or that they don’t care. The manager can’t control them on the pitch like a video game, his ability to get the players to buy in and inspire them is what makes or breaks their success at the end of the day.

RVP and Ferdinand have basically said the players aren’t being coached properly.

If they were they would see the runs Rashford is making and actually attempt a forward pass. There is no risk takers in this team. Shaw especially refuses to go forward or pass forward. You can’t create attacked constantly going sideways and backward.

No chance he's a total liability. He'd be breaking records for errors leading to goals if he was at United.
fecker played like Rio today though, and just as good on the ball (used to be a dm after all)

Oof, THIS has been said by Ole about Pogba's injury. Subtext...?

"Three or four weeks maybe, I don't know. He's been advised to have an operation by his people and he'll probably do that."

I'm not sure that's what he said. I don't think those players are able to see and pick those passes.

Did anyone notice in the first half that Rashford was grabbing his lower back after at least three runs? To me that usually means a hammy is ready to go. Hope i'm wrong!

Another game where the "coaching" is non-existant. We're not playing with any kind of playing patterns and only looking for individual brilliance from certain players like Martial, Rashford etc. to do something. This is not coaching; anyone can select an 11 and say "go out and express yourselves boys". Our players don't seem to have instructions what to do in certain situations and play through their instincts rather than instructions. I repeat again; this is not coaching.

Also, the only in-game "tactic" this guy knows as a manager is bringing Greenwood & Pereira for James & Lingard in the hope of changing the game. Not tactically, not by the change of mentality but with the change of personnel. This further proves that we're looking for individuals to do the job rather than the plan. I predicted the 11 and all the subs correctly in this game because everything (including subs) is too predictable with us now. As a result of the clueless management, the individuls (who lost the ball, who lost his man, who gave the ball away etc. or the usual scapegoats like Shaw, Pereira, Fred, Matic who played very well) will get the blame from Ole supporters but it's apparent that the problem is the lack of coaching in this side.

All the chances we've got to close the gap since the second half of last year in top 4 race and we gave it all away. We're not making top 4 with Ole and going nowhere under him. That much is clear.
Brilliant post and spot on. Been saying the same thing for weeks. It's a coaching issue and proof that ex pros are given coaching licences based on them being ex pros and not for anything to do with their ability to improve players or coach a system.

I agree. They name-checked Scholes, Rooney and Carrick as being told that they weren't picking out RVP's runs.

Nobody on the pitch today is anywhere near those lads in passing ability.

It was a gutsy performance from him after it looked like he had suffered a knock in the opening minutes, just a shame he barely had decent service and help in attack

Him, Fred and Wan Bissaka are the only ones who can walk off the pitch with their heads somewhat held high, they put in solid shifts and weren't the reason why we got embarrassed

Ole clearly backing Maguire on that first goal - he suggests they shouldn't have tried to play offside. I think Maguire as leader of the backline should be the one calling offside or not.

Our squad is so shit at the moment. it doesn't fix anything if you replace Lingard with Pereira, so why not just put an attacker on for a defender if you're trailing by two goals, especiallh with the form our defense is in. Oh yeah, forgot the last sub which was a an AM for a DM, both on their very last legs.

I'm trying to imagine Ole managing Robin Van Persie, based on even his presence and personality in a TV studio. It's a tough one.

McTominay is an average midfielder which says it all about the rest of them when we actually miss him.

Really poor performance out there today. The first half in particular was shocking. Second best in absolutely every aspect. Certainly improved after the break but we still didn't really do much. Our passing was so bad today, so many mistakes and it seemed there was a foul every other minute for a while. Very annoying to see yet another chance to catch top 4 slip away. A seemingly never-ending story that started in the second half of last season.

I was close to falling asleep too.

The players are tired. Our squad is weak in numbers, and quality, so we can neither rotate enough, nor rotate without a drop-off in quality, and even the 1st choice players aren't quite up to it. Andreas isn't good enough, but Lingard is literally a whole league worse. Brandon is our best LB but he's actually just a rookie, while Shaw isn't good enough for even the squad. Maguire has been overplayed, but Rojo and Jones are sick notes and not up to standard anyway. Rashford is also overplayed, as is James, but we have no strength in depth their either. Let alone the midfield, which without McTominay now, and likely Pogba too for a few weeks, will just burnout Fred, while Matic is already past it.

Next couple of months is just one tough game after another, and with our squad in this state, we'll be going out of the Cups rapidly, and season over by end of February, as usual.

We know recruitment has been lousy, and if Ole underestimates the need for numbers, it'll be his downfall, as Woodward will never accept his responsibility and resign.

Looks to be another long year ahead.

What's the source on this?

I just saw the post match interview on BT and while he said he needs an operation but there was no mention of Pogba's people.

He'll be out for a good while now if he needs an operation which is bad news.

We won't make top 4 if we have to rely on Matic as a starter for the next two months.

The board have to go all out for a couple of CMs.

Oles «project« is starting to resemble PRK eye surgery.

Immidiately after surgery (takeover) you can see better than you did before.

A little while after surgery your vision will be worse and you will be in tremendous pain.

Gradually your vision will get better but you will from time to time experience haze and your night vision will be poor.

After a few months your vision is restored fully and you see better than ever. Then the neighbours cat scratches out your left eye.

Shambolic performance. Everything was wrong.

Literally one of the worst teams you can lose against, their fans are bunch of feckwits who despite being garbage for years act all smug and superior the minute they get a win against you like they’ve a star studded squad who’ve been winning leagues for years. No eating on AFTV tonight.

Absolute disgrace showing from just about everyone coaches and players.

Rashford is clearly gassed as he is the entire offense right now.

Lingard was abysmal and i don't even think any club in the PL would take him.

Issues top to bottom at this club and I don't see how we ever turn this around.

Agree with RVP. We have just lost to Arsenal 2-0 and Ole is smiling after the game. It’s just ridiculous. I cannot see Ole being cut throat enough to be a decent manager.

It was obvious Lingard was gash in the first half. Prove a point, take him off at half time and then don’t play him for a couple of games.

He doesn’t have to be José Mourinho but my word it’s the same thing with Ole’s post match interviews.

Small detail, but did anyone see Torreira eat from the packet of sports gel around 80 minutes?

They're L-Arginine and caffeine combined packets of gel that get into your system really quickly. I've used them quite a bit in training and I've had brilliant training sessions even on days when I've felt under-nourished prior. It's just an example of having great sports science and getting the most out of players.
I missed it but it's what I expect from Arteta. He'll get them maximizing their fitness by every means possible, get them pressing and organized. He'll be doing Pep incarnate, and that's why Arsenal took the risk.

We don't seem to be privy to any sport science that's happening elsewhere and I think Arsenal might overtake us in the coming month or two, we'll see.

I agree, hopefully like Rio said he would be different in the dressing room. It’s still hard for us to see after a performance like that.

I can’t imagine ole managing big player personalities such as Rio andRVP

Didn't watch but managed to listen on radio, and it so very nearly sent me to sleep. Commentators mentioned on a few occasions, James out on the wing hoping to see the ball and nobody switching toward him or ahead for him to chase???? Surely this is further proof to the " Ole in " crowd just how poor this mans coaching actually is. Arsenal sounded more like Barcelona and Ozil and Pepe were like Messi and Ronaldo while Kolasinac outpowered every player on our team. WTF Ole?, get some new ideas, some new training drills and look at how to change tactics mid game that can actually kmprove our shite position!!!
