I'm a Patriots fan too.. It's going to be an interesting off season.

i used to post on the old threads through the night on games, but realised I was spending more time posting than watching.. So try to come off social media throughout.

I don’t post on Sundays because I don’t like knowing what’s happening as I watch games on condensed throughout the week on train to work etc. Usually through most games by Tuesday or Wednesday. But Sunday to Tuesday is effectively media and redcafe nfl thread blackout

I’m definitely for Denver; was growing up there when Elway won his Super Bowls. Also maybe when he lost some.

I also temporarily adopt teams with a significant OU presence.

I thought McCarthy was nailed on for the Browns. I bet their focus is now on McDaniels to try and salvage Baker, though Rivera was probably the best guy to come in and get that house in order.

I think McCarthy is a decent appointment - he's experienced, shown that he can do well if given the right pieces and has major playoff experience. It's a lot less fancy than Lincoln Riley or Urban Meyer but as HCs like Kingsbury have proven recently, the NFL isn't college football and there's no certainty that success there transpires to the NFL.

Kingsbury didn't succeed in college though.

Yah not taking anything at all from his ability. Good player who can be a game changer for the Seahawks. Just thought the hit on Wentz was unnecessary.
Clowney was spectacular last night. Made our DEs look ordinary. My thoughts were he deliberately targeted Wentz, who was going down. A helmet hit on the back of his head kind of shows he did it on purpose, mainly because his hands were not out at all. Maybe tackling diving in with your head only without your arms out is how to tackle. With all the discourse around head injuries you would think the NFL would have something to say. As I said last night clowney has history.

McCarthy is a safe choice. Will be interesting if he clashes with Jerry.

Thought/Read he was highly touted at TT, but I don't follow college football that much. Just meant to say that an uninspiring hiring doesn't make it a bad one.

Nah, he’s just young and good looking so they thought he could be Sean McVay. He was fired from his alma mater in a conference where 2nd place after OU is ripe for the taking.

That said, the Cards were more competitive than I thought they’d be given the roster quality.

The Chiefs are the ONLY team in the Divisional Round this season who also featured last season. Pretty crazy that.

It was definitely questionable. Fell dead on the borderline in that gray area of incidental vs. intentional. Agreed that the hit itself, even if Wentz never got injured, wasn't really necessary as he was falling, but that's how Clowney has played since the first time I saw him in high school... "to the echo of the whistle".

MMC is a good coach. He put in some great work for us. Still respect him a lot. In the end, things grew stale and we were right to go in a different direction. But I'm very sure he still has a lot to offer. There have also been reports that he made good use of his time off by assembling a new team around him, including some great analysts. That's very encouraging for the Cowboys, they badly need this.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"

Watching it back, Clowney dips his body and turns his head (0.03) JUST as Wentz gets tripped which takes him down quicker and alters his fall angle. Otherwise, I think he may have hit Wentz more around the middle and while still partially upright.

Under the revised rules though (intent or not), I thought they'd have pinged him.

That’s my thing with some of these calls... sometimes the defender is physically already committed and the offensive player changes his level.

I'll never forget that hit in the backfield while he played for the Gamecocks. Swallowed him up and completely destroyed the RB.

I personally think it was a flag. Clowney is otherworldly when he is on his game, but that’s not got anything to do with the hit. I don’t think it was malicious (I.e he didn’t target him), but I think it was avoidable and not necessary. To me it’s a flag, but not a shocking play or a dickhead play. Just a flag, accept, and move on type of play. The injury itself was unlucky.

I don’t disagree with you. But think of football - a defender is committed to making a tackle and, without intent, may take the man without playing the ball. Malicious? No. But free kick? Yes. Like I said above I don’t think it was malicious, but still a flag. I know the NFL rule might be worded differently etc etc. But principally, the situations are similar.

Who’d have thought as well that the AFC South would have two divisional round teams? Two teams from the NFC North and West is, broadly, expected (minus the Saints perhaps for one of them). But two teams from the AFC South given the state of that division in recent times is interesting.

Funnily enough, in my original post, I actually typed "guess I'm a glory hunter" then removed it.

It was more about Montana's calmness under immense pressure, though I could say anything and you'd say "yeah, whatever glory hunter"? :)
I'm just messing with you, american sports don't even work that way. :D
