There is so much we are going to need. Can't really spend on fullbacks since we need minimum 3 attackers/midfielders. Mata and Young will go so ideally we would need to replace them too, but we can't afford that.
I'd argue fullback is the most important position in modern football. It's critical for us to sign a top attacking fullback and a midfielder.

I remember when Borthwick-Jackson played a handful of games for the first team and suddenly people here decided our LB spot was sorted for a decade.

Chances are, more likely than not, that Williams, Dalot, and Laird won't be good enough. Even if they are, they're not ready yet. We absolutely need a replacement for Young.
wtf are you talking about? Williams is already better than young and dalot last season was our best attacking option at right flank. When we bought him considered one of the best prospects in europe. The position you keep moaning about, getting an attacking fullback and we got two young prospects. Sink or swim, lets see if these kids have it before writing them off.

I never want to hear people talking about player loyalty again. Ashley Young of all people refusing to play again, the bloody captain during middle of the season.

Bin Lingard off too, his changed his agent for a reason. We’re actually doing these crap players a favour letting them stay here and stink the place out then jump at the first chance.

The amount of times people have described Young as some kind of loyalist player. He just wasn’t good enough for anyone else.

What, Williams and AWB aren’t good enough?

Williams is unproven and isn't ready yet despite a few good games. He should be eased into the first team. AWB and Dalot aren't LBs.

I seemingly missed that part but when did Young refuse to play again? Isn't it reported that he doesn't intend to play for the club when his contract expires and therefore rejected our offer?

Also people are a bit weird when it comes to loyalty, when we sign players from other clubs loyalty isn't part of the equation, we offer a better context and they take it. If we stop being a better context players will leave or not sign.

Has he fallen out with the club ?
Can somewhat understand him. Last chance of a nice move to round his career off and he doesn’t want to jeopardise it. I don’t see Young refusing to play though.

Probably fed up with the stick he gets. I know he’s past it but he gets dogs abuse on social media.

There are serious issues at the club but they don’t stem from him

I’ve always liked his as a person but if he thinks going to Italy is going to see him get no abuse he obviously doesn’t watch it.

It's a bit like the Lingard situation in that ...it's actually not really his fault if in the past managers kept picking him and the club have continually renewed his contract after some pretty horrendous seasons. Jones is the same. They're not going to say 'i'm crap, I don't deserve this'.

I'll have very mixed memories of him. On the hand he had a decent debut season, a good year with LVG and one (mostly) good year with Jose in 17/18 (that performance vs Mo Salah at OT  ) but he's had some horrendous seasons here. I think people forget how awful he was in Fegie's last season and the following year under Moyes. Some real lows in there and last season (Barcelona match)

I completely agree with all of that.

I believe one of the problems here is; if he were going to a mid table club(Villa or the like) no one would bat an eyelid.

Some fans appear to be annoyed that he’s signing for a top flight club as if he should be denied that opportunity

First thing's first, Conte is tactically one of the most astute managers in the game today. His ability to gauge a player's strengths and utilize them for the benefit of the team is highly praiseworthy. I think if Chelsea had gotten Lukaku back then instead of Morata, he would have still been at Chelsea. The guy is a serial winner and the immediate impact he's had on Inter has been simply exceptional. Secondly, as for Young... he's been a great servant for the club. I thought he was a good player when he first came to United but then he was found out pretty quickly on the wings and kinda followed the same path as Valencia in transforming into a wingback. However, Young is a not a full back and we keep playing him there. He's better utilized as a wingback which Conte expects to use him. Also, Young's crosses have suffered. It's shocking that an attacking winger like him has deteriorated in terms of crosses. Maybe he's fair better in Italy where the game is not end to end and he won't be caught out of position like he usually does in the PL. With that being said, we've got quality backs up in Ethan Laird, Brandon Williams & Dalot for Shaw and Wan Bassaka. However, I would make Brandon the starter ahead of Shaw. Either ways, his time is up and I bid him farewell. I would also appreciate we bid goodbye to the likes of Jones and Pereira while we are at it.

Another player leaving with absolutely no benefit to anyone other than Glazers FC, and himself of course.

And this needs to be done, those players are simply not good enough any longer. We will continue to suffer short term, but I do not have any doubt that this will help us long term.

Players like Young, Mata, Matic, Jones and Lingard has to leave, one way or another. They are not good enough and its just a fact. Sure some of our current younger players are not probably good enough to get us to the top of the pyramid, but being optimistic as me, I suspect that they are here to be the squad options for the future ase we are going to aquire a few top players in their prime.

The players leaving will also free up wages for other players.
You’re right, it needs to be done but you can’t just wipe the floor in one season. I perfectly understand why Ashley jump the sinking ship. If he got a good offer from Inter is a no brainer from his perspective but the way he do it tells us that something happened in his relationship with Ole and the club. Recall CBJ?

Serious question.

First Young. Then Matic, Jones, Lingard, Bailly and probably Mata. On top of that we’re short of options in midfield and up front since Herrera, Sanchez, Lukaku and Fellaini left. That’s ten senior players in one year apart from Fellaini.

Can you see us buy more then three four new players next summer?

I think Ole is afraid it would look bad if a senior player leaves us now. Sends the wrong message.
However I think we should just let him go. His last chance to play abroad and we have enough cover at fullback IMO with the emergence of Williams and Dalot coming back. We also have Laird who's very highly rated, that's 5 players.

He's probably peeved at being given a new contract of £8.72 (minimum wage an hour from April) by Woodward for another year.

The Inter board are doing a better job of saving this sinking ship then Woodward.

Don't know which one is worse. That United offered him another contract or that Ashley Young doesn't want to be here anymore.

Isn't playing at United - gets offered to go to Inter who could win the title this season and gets to live in Milan for the last few years of his career. No brainer to leave and try to force a move.

Only thing anyone will remember is a couple of goals against Arsenal and the birdshit, for 100k a week for 9 years. The epitomy of mediocrity and why the club has become run of the mill. He can't leave fast enough.

Serious answer....what good have any of those senior players done us? They've pretty much all dragged us down into mediocrity. Experience is only beneficial if its setting the correct example. Clear the lot out and give others a chance to prove themselves.

Will be hard to blame Pogba after this when our captain is forcing his way out to a much better team with a world class manager and challenging for a top European league.
