The amount of revisionism I m seeing on Ashley Young is incredible. :)
From the same people that use to slate him week in week out. :)
Knee jerking (with a hint of hypocrisy) at its best.
If I was Young, the biggest reason for leaving would be the abuse he continually got from a section of so called "fans".
You won't see any from me. Should have played his last game for the club at least two years ago.

Happy to see him go asap. No longer able to cut it in the Prem.
I said this earlier in the thread and was told that Young hadn't been treated like shit here and they didn't know what I was on about.

But I fully agree with you guys, Young should have been out years ago, really hope he does well at Inter.

Really showing our class as a bunch of supporters in this thread. Young has given us many years of service and always without fail seemed to (a) give a shit and (b) leave it all out on the pitch. He'll be a loss to the dressing room more than he would be on the field. Can completely understand why we would try to give him another year, and also bear no grudge towards him for wanting one last challenge.

Honestly the state of this forum these days. Worst I've seen it in the 15 years I've been a member.

Despite being years past his best, he's still a useful squad player, which is indicative of just how poor we've become.

Agreed. He was clearly past his best but he always gave 100 per cent and I do appreciate that.
He s not at fault if the club failed to find proper replacements and had to fall back on him. He just tried to did the best he can and if all players cared as much as him, I m sure we would not be in this shitty position.

Wouldn’t begrudge him this move one bit. Firstly because I’ve wanted him gone years ago but secondly, I think he’s always given his all (which might not have always been good enough, but that’s another discussion) when called upon.

Same as Smalling, I'll wish the guy well and fairplay for getting a sideways move to a good club. It's not their fault they are inadequate, both gave their best and were model pros for us.

But WHY are Inter even up for this?!

Probably fed up with the stick he gets. I know he’s past it but he gets dogs abuse on social media.

There are serious issues at the club but they don’t stem from him
Yeh. He gets fed up with only 6 months last of his 3 yr contract.

Come on Caf, the man's been stealing a living since 2015! His last good season was under LvG and maybe played well for a couple of games under Mourinho. He's like Grant to me, useful to have around as a backup but nothing more. Should've been shipped off years ago.

Not his fault though, has been a model pro and gave it his 100%, so wish him all the best.

In 2020 Inter is step up from us, feels weird to say it with how crap they've been in recent years, but they're certainly looking much better than we are right now. It's a great move for him.

The most worrying thing is the fact we offered him a new contract.

Agree. He really turned his career around here, after looking as good as gone around 2014. Reinvented himself as a pretty good full back imo, and was brilliant under Jose. Fair play to him, and after 9 years and at his age I see why he’d want one last crack at a title in a new league for a top club.
Around 2014 all the good players were gone. United didn’t sign any good players to replace them. Squad players became first teamers. Suddenly Ashley Young had a free run at a full back spot. United slid into irrelevance.

This is true, but I still think he showed good form.

This 100%. I'm in shock.

Worried about the 'value-protecting' package we're preparing for Mata, Matic, Bailly, Rojo, TFM & Sanchez.

I think Ole is afraid it would look bad if a senior player leaves us now. Sends the wrong message.
However I think we should just let him go. His last chance to play abroad and we have enough cover at fullback IMO with the emergence of Williams and Dalot coming back. We also have Laird who's very highly rated, that's 5 players.
We dont really have a choice. He can only be 'kept' for 6 more months and his is then a free agent.

If you meant we should let him go now, I agree with that. I like him as a personality and hate the criticism he gets from some of our 'fans': despite not being a top player for us, he has always been very loyal, committed and passionate about our club, culminating in being club captain. It may not be 'good enough' for what we became accustomed to under SAF, but that not his fault at all. And he has little to offer in our future (and we have some youth coming through), but so much to gain from living in another country under a new manager.

I have no negative feelings towards him, and genuinely wish him well for his future.

He should be booted years ago, i was amazed when Ole gave him extension last year but to think they tried to do the same this year too, its just mental.

I don’t want to weaken our squad any further, but if he’s set on leaving then I wish him all the best; if Inter give us a bit of cash then even better.

Been a loyal servant and open minded to a new role too. Wish him well, never wanted him here when were linked because he was and never has been good enough. Also hated his diving.....but he has always given his best. NO animosity to him wanting to move, more th efact we offered him a new contract we have Dalot, Bissake, Williams, Shaw and the other young full back comign through whose name I have forgotten, offer him an extension because of his dressing room role, we did that with Mata, that was a mistake. Dont know if its management or above, but whoever is making these mistakes again and again, it is why we are where we are....our club is being ran amateurish, disgrace

Offered a new contract? We are a joke of a club
Baffling and yet people wonder why we have fallen so behind these past years. Really hope it aint true otherwise I now have zero faith in any transfer/contract decisions in the future.

What idiot thought Young should get a new contract? Oh, I know. Probably the same one who gave Phil 'the walking hospital' Jones a new 5-year deal this summer.

Nothing against Young who's actually been professional in his time here and had some memorable moments of both quality and passion but he should've gone with LvG.

This club is absolutely going the way of Liverpool with these American crooks in charge and their puppet Ed Deadwood.

In what fecking universe Young is/was loyal servant, are people for real, how some are painting it, its like him being 9/10 player and he rejected Real and Barca every summer just to stay with us, boggles my mind.

Good riddance. He is a perfect embodiment of the mediocrity this club has sunk to.

Have to say I was unhappy when we bought him as never felt he was good enough and him playing regularly at full back these past few seasons speaks volumes about the recent state of our full backs .
Alway impressed with his attitude though , always gives 100 .% . Not surprised we offered him another year as he is decent cover but equally not surprised that 2 years as a starter in Milan appeals more to him than 1 year as a bit part player for us .Wish him well .

God, people saying he was a great servant etc. No, he wasn't. He was a mediocre player earning millions in the process, having absolute mares every now and then. And no, he was not abused, because some people here wrote "he is shit" (I don't know if people were going to his social media telling him awful things, I am only talking for people who believe that just because in a football forum people write he is shit, they think that he is being abused or something).

If these are true the club is genuinely finished.

"The club are not giving up hope of Young agreeing a new deal before the summer. "

I just can't anymore, i really can't.

Like Mata, the club are clearly retaining him for leadership qualities he brings to a young team. He has barely played this season as it is, but if the club is willing to hand him a new contract, its not because he is there to be first choice.

In saying that, look at the source ffs.

They're protecting their assets. It's easier to resign players and squeeze every last drop out of them rather sign replacements. Our players have incredibly low turn over compared to other top clubs. It's clear to see Glazers' MO. Until they're gone, nothing will change. Saying all that, hiring a better coach would be better since we'd actually see an uptick in results.

£110k a week for the "leadership qualities" of Ashley Young ffs. What have his "leadership qualities" contributed during the club's slide into irrelevance during the past five years? What exciting young full backs have come through that have benefited from Ashley Young's (ffs) "leadership qualities" and blossomed as a result? The only thing he could "lead" a young player on is how to steal a living, like so many of the other useless wastes of space who've been stinking up the squad for far too long. Good riddance to him. Shame it's years too late.

Lukaku and Sanchez wanted to leave, Smalling doesn't want to return, Pogba, Young, Matic and Lingard want to leave as well, Haaland preferred joining Dortmund then the club his former manager is managing.....this club is in shambles. Jeez Ole and the Glazers did brought this club into the new Molde. I can't see us getting sorted unless the Glazers sell out.
