Always liked him. Always been a great servant and an example of professionalism. He might not be Ronaldo but he's been giving his all and is also down to earth too/a fan himself.

Deserves a move, just alone for all the abuse he has taken to the chin.
A fan himself that as soon as he gets the captaincy looks for a pay day elsewhere.

Sure. A captain on the bench - how thankful he should be for that :houllier: I bet you were one of those fans complaining over him constantly, wanting him to leave. Now that he wants that, that's not good enough neither is it?

People don’t mind him leaving, just not
In the middle of a campaign when
It’s clear we’re not prepared for him to leave.
If he wasn’t happy being on the bench why didn’t he submit a transfer request, he only has a problem with his game time now there’s an offer.
His contract is till the summer why should we be forced to let him go now when we don’t have too? If Inter wasn’t interested would he be happy if we just released him mid season with no compensation? Of course he wouldn’t. It works both ways.

I take it negotiations for incoming transfers aren't going well if we're so desperate to keep hold of Young.

Sure it works both ways, but you make it sound like Young has publically said he doesn't respect his contract. We're run pretty crappy if we can't let him leave to be honest (of course for a transfersum). Don't even know why. Laird and Williams seems promising. If you had a similar offer, you'd probably go for it too while it's there. I dont get why many are acting so offended - we've let his contract run out ourselves

What's with Inter Milan continually being linked to our players?

It'd certainly be worrying if we really do want to keep him another year.

This year as cover made decent sense, but not another season! We have Shaw and now Williams on the left, and a 50m man and a couple of promising right backs on that side.

If we're desperate to keep a past "winner" of the league, we've got Jonesy for that, for the forseeable!

Ole said he wasn’t fit to play in his post-match presser. Can only imagine that he justifies that statement via referring to his mental state of mind.

We have AWB and we have Dalot whom Jose declared as the best young FB in Europe in our ranks so I do not see the problem in letting him go.
He has been a good servant to the club but if we are moving forwards as a club then we say thanks to Ashley and best of luck for the rest of his career.
It is a great opportunity for him to get a couple of years playing for one of the top clubs in one of the top leagues in the world and experience a different culture so who can begrudge him for wanting that.

As much as I want him gone, he is more reliable than Shaw and is at least not constantly injured.

If this does happen, then with Shaw's injury record we will be relying a lot on an inexperienced Williams to play a lot of games.

With rumours Shaw is wanted by Leicester, I'd rather we keep Young.

The only player We had that understood a madman that was Van Gaal with all his alien tactics. I always had this feeling that if Van Gaal was still managing and needed a wingback, He'd have signed Ashley Young.

This window will be one of the greatest if we manage to keep Young when he wanted out, give Matic a new extension and also fail to sign Bruno..

Woody really wasn't lying when he sold us as the adult Disneyland. Just a pity its for all the wrong sorts of entertainment reasons.

Why would they want Shaw? Either they've got loads of leftover food from Christmas, or they need someone to keep the treatment table warm.
In case Chilwell leave this summer, Shaw is their plan B option. Even Leicester have a great transfer strategy now when we are begging Young to stay.

Does this mean he only gets his move in the summer or the deal is off the table altogether?
I really hope we didn't cost him this move, likely the last big move of his career, with a possibility of winning more titles!

100% this^^
We have Shaw, Bissaka, Williams, Dalot and even TFM so should not stand in the way of Young, that would be a pretty shitty thing for the club to do.

Stand in his way? His bloody lucky to be playing for us in the first place. No one forced him to sign a contract till summer 2020, so why shouldn’t he honour it if we need him too? If he doesn’t want to be here, he shouldn’t have signed the contract. He can wait till the summer if it doesn’t suit us for him to go now.

Pretty shitty of us. Whatever happened to "if a player wants to leave, we won't stand in their way"?
When deciding whether we've been shitty to a player worth bearing in mind we've paid said player tens of millions in their time here.

Pretty harsh thing to say about a lad who a) isn't fat in the slightest, b) endured what must have been a very tough period out with injury and c) was regularly maligned by our previous manager. These are human beings we're talking about.

Make sure to have a go at the club over things that haven't happened. Maybe Inter decided against Young for unknown reasons.

New contract and a testimonial next year please Ed.
I am not an Ashley Young fan, but if he did stay for another year in the end, I would not begrudge him a testimonial.

He was a useful squad player as a winger, capable of good delivery on his day. It was the club and subsequent managers that asked him to fill in at left back and right back. Was he brilliant? No! But there are very few wingers that could adapt like that post-30.

Whatever he has been asked to do, he has been a professional and gotten on with it. There may have been a lack of quality in unfamiliar positions, but there was never a lack of effort from Young.

If he wants the opportunity to stick a few more years on his career and possibly win Série A, United should be letting him go.

If he doesn’t go, he should be given another year as emergency cover and given a testimonial for the example he has set.

He was probably never a good enough player for Manchester United, but he has always shown his club respect and done what was asked of him to the best of his ability.

If we hand him a new contract I'll be livid. We're supposed to moving 'forward' as a club, not re-signing all of these deadwood veterans and borderline Championship squad players.

AWB/Dalot/Laird is more than fine. Williams/Shaw is fine. If need be, we sign a LB to cover the injury-prone Shaw. We do not need Young anymore.
