It must be Rojo. We pretty much offer him to every club as part of a deal, which is what we did to Nani to get Rojo, which means in five years we'll be offering Bruno to someone in exchange for.. someone, and the cycle will continue.

It's either Rojo or have feeling it be Angel Gomes maybe?
I think so too, honestly can't see who else we'd swap. We can't really afford to let anyone go really, the squad is small.

I wouldn't be surprised in a couple of days we'll see reports that the club are no longer interested. This seems to be an exercise to get the fans back on side.

Gomes going there with a buy back clause could be great for his development, as much as I'd rather see him sign a new contract here and go out on loan instead.

I agree with you but i really hope not this time around since we've been on a roller coaster for too long now!
We've been waiting too long for something decent/concrete to be done by ED and the Glazers

The only way we don’t look like fools for not signing him in the summer is if Ole thought lingard would step up and he hasn’t at all.
If Ole thought Lingard would step up he's an absolute moron. I don't believe for a second that's the case.

I think Sporting played hardball in the Summer over the price after seeing what we paid for AWB and Maguire. I think we called their bluff.

From what I read and hear, the likes of Grealish have technical ability on the ball that Fernandes just doesn't who has far greater end product. Again, I fear were going for the wrong type of player. I imagine most are just happy to possibly be signing anyone. But again, I see us not prioritising on close control, ability in tight spaces etc
Yeah feck guys who score and assist goals, work hard and have good technique, why would we want them?

I still think Gomes will stay and leave on a free in Summer

Expectation is key. If people expect him to have a KdB/Gerrard type of impact they will probably be dissappointed and view him as a failure.

If they view him as a flexible, hardworking and «honest» midfielder that gives us a bit of flair he will be considered a success.

Yeah only way it’s Gomes is if it’s a loan til the end of the season because he’s already decided he’s leaving and wants first team football and we seen no value in putting any more energy into him.

Wardrobe.

I know it was pre-season but his performance against Liverpool really impressed me as I wanted to see what he'd be like against English opposition. I especially enjoyed his tracking back at 4:15

They probably wanted silly money if a deal was on at all - everyone wants silly money from United.

If they're really strapped for cash now (as some say), we could be in a good position for once.

I'll believe this when I see it, but that aside now he's a little cheaper, and we might be able to offload some deadwood, we just forget 'he can't pass well enough' , and 'doesn't suit Ole's playstyle', or was that all to get the £10 million off, if so I bet Ed thinks he's genius all over again.

I Just can't get wrapped up in the hysteria, he was either good enough or he wasn't, if he was all along and we just went into the season without him for the sake of £10 million then it was sabotage given our need in this position, if he isn't, then how does this fits with the rubbish we've been fed since Ole came in, but a new toy will bide them some more time, and give us some hope at least.

We need to get this deal for Fernandes over the line this coming week. I would also like to see Diop coming here.

Think some of the reason many of the other big clubs dont go for him (apart from a high price in a lower league) , is that all of Sportings play go through him.
Every player more or less passes the ball to him at every given opportunity. Many of the othe clubs already have a player like that.

You could say it is a bit like Arsenal and Sanchez in that regard...

Whats good about that though, is that we desperately need a player like that in our mid.

Seems like a desperate signing.

I'm saying this now - Fernandes will be another Mkhitaryan

We need hard workers. Grealish over Fernandes any day.
Do you watch football? He is the definition of a hard working player.

Of course he was always good enough, we just didnt have the money to spend in the summer unless we shifted players like Lukaku and Sanchez

I don't know Sporting's financial situation so I can't really comment on that. However if you're a selling club (apologies if you're not, my comment isn't meant to be taken as an insult), then the January sales is the best time you sell. I mean think about it. Maddison, Graelish, Havertz and Zaniolo won't move in January. There might, just might, be a move from Van Beek but I very much doubt so but that's it. There's just 2 top no 10s available in football and Eriksen seems set to Inter. This is the right time to make a real killing here.
Well normally none of the big 3 sell there best players in the January window. This time though I am not too sure as Sporting are in a bad state since Varandas took the helm.

Also no offense taken. I say worse things about Sporting at the moment

In almost all the Bruno Fernandes threads I have wrote extensive stuff about his playstyle and I would do it again but I am in the midst of writing something up for work as well but I will give you a quick run down.

SHOOTING: he has unbelievable shooting with both his left and right foot he uses both power and precision (mostly power) and hits them from distance often and with good amounts of success

PASSING/VISION: He is the creator for Sporting and everything runs through him. His long passing and through balls are of high quality and his ability to make a pass before receiving the ball is very good as well. His teammates at times struggle to keep up with what he tries to do which says a lot about how shit Sporting are.

DRIBBLING: He can beat a man if he needs to or in tight spaces but this is NOT one of the traits you should be focused on when getting a player like Bruno. It is not something you really highlight about him as player.

STAMINA/LEADERSHIP: You get a natural born leader with Bruno and he very often the first to track back and go up and down the pitch. If he loses it you can bet your bottom dollar he will take it right back. If a teammate loses it he is the first to pull back. He has very high on field IQ which may explain why he says he hopes to be a coach one day.

ABILITY TO GET OUT OF TIGHT SPACES: Has no problem doing this and if the Portuguese league is a turn off for you he has done it in the CL vs Barcelona.

SETPIECES: Dam near automatic. World class penalty taker and his free kicks are brilliant as well scores a lot of them.

His vision passing and overall ability in the final third is of the best quality I have personally ever seen in Sporting.

He usually picks up the ball from deep and brings it up the field then using his creativity to make the best chance. If buy hold up play you mean can he hold on to the ball a little longer until the appropriate run is made for him to release the ball then yes, if you mean hold up play as in what a striker or center forward usually do then no.

Also ya I think if you just scroll through the beginning pages of most Bruno threads you will see me somewhere on there haha

I hope this somewhat helped though!
Cheers @SportingCP96

The way you’ve described him is exactly one of the sort of midfielders we are crying out for.

That may be right. I am hoping it is more like the loan deal we did with Pereira, where he signed a one year contract extension to hedge his bets.

Should he come to United this January, do you expect a replacement signing in the same window? If so who do you think will come to replace him.
They say we have replacements in mind but the truth is I don’t trust our current scouting department under varandas at all. With that being said I doubt the replacement will be anywhere near the quality needed. My hope is we start returning to our core foundation and play more of the academy kids. We recently promoted a GK named Max and he has shown good signs so far.

Things in general though are looking very very bleak unfortunately.

When is the last time a player came directly from the Portuguese league to a top team and was successful, by the way?

I hope he moves to England and of course I would prefer he go to United as I have a soft spot and a lot of care for the club. I do see him as a potential target for Spurs though especially since Jose took over and Bruno has the types of qualities Mourinho likes in a player.

Heh. Anyway, if we go sign Bruno, I think he will cover lots of holes for us, like goals or assists from midfield, especially when Pogba is out. Oh and the set pieces as well. Wont be surprised if he is sometimes played out on the right like how Buendia plays for Norwich or Eriksen played sometimes for Spurs, or how Becks used to play for us. When Pogba gets back, it will only give opponents more to think about as it wont be just him alone who will be out creator as compared to having Lingard on the pitch- I think why Lingard " gets into good spaces" all the time is a a tactic used by opposing teams as they allow him to ball and space as he does nothing with it 99% of the time.

Of course, if Pogba leaves, Bruno will be a direct replacement and we can use the money, hopefully, to strengthen other areas of the team rather than worrying about getting a Pogba replacement.
Not a tactic. He does it consistently and was a big reason why he cemented his place in the team during Mourinho's second to last season. Lingard consistently does that regardless of form and when he had that good season he was still being allowed to and was scoring goals and assisting.

Well I think one things that helps Bruno is United are a club who are in transition and growing and this would allow both the club and player to grow together, of course there would be pressure because it’s Manchester United but there is “less pressure” to win based on where the club is at currently.

He has the same Energy and non stop running of Bernardo Silva to go with his quality in the final third...his shots from distance are automatic and can help unlock those stubborn defenses who sit deep.

Time will tell but I would be both happy and proud to see him wearing the red of Manchester United.

Yes and no. He is definitely more a 10 then a 8 but he creates the "illusion" he is a 8 because his engine is insane and he drops back a lot. It is his style of play and he is a workhorse but he is no doubt the furthest forward of a 3 man midfield with Wendel at the #8 position and doumbia playing the #6.

He is both the creator AND the goalscorer which says a lot about his quality AND the absolute lack of quality in the rest of this team.
Thank you boss

More similar to Madison or grealish? Madison is my guess, main talent seems to be striking the ball so well ?

If Pogba goes (I think he will), I still think we ll sign Maddison who ll play in a deeper role than Bruno.

I think a big part why we didn't push through our interest the past summer was Ole wanting to give Lingard and Pereira a chance which they have failed to take. Also, I dont think he counted on Pogba being out of action so often.
Lingard did not, despite what some days Pereira has started to show better protection and play.

Pogba out was probably a shock but hey, let’s see how well this guy does.

Wish Eriksen wanted to come I feel he’ll move for half the price and is also a quality player.
