Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, commonly known as Wolves or The Wanderers, is an English professional football club based in the city of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. The club were founded as St. Luke's in 1877 by John Baynton and John Brodie, after a group of pupils at St Luke's Church school in Blakenhall had been presented with a football by their headmaster Harry Barcroft. Two years later, they merged with local cricket and football club The Wanderers, to form Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club then became one of the twelve founders of the English Football League in 1888 and finished the inaugural season in a creditable third place, as well as reaching their first ever FA Cup Final, losing 3–0 to the first Double winners, Preston North End.

The club spent 33 years in the top flight from 1932 to 1965, their longest continuous period at that level (albeit league football was in hiatus from 1939 to 1946 due to World War II). During the 1950s, the club was English league champions three times (1953–54, 1957–58 & 1958–59), whilst under the management of Stan Cullis. Wolves has also finished runners-up in the league on five occasions (most recently in 1959–60) and in third place on a further six occasions (most recently in 1960–61). On the domestic cup front, they have won the FA Cup four times, most recently in 1960, and has finished runners-up on a further four occasions, and the Football League Cup twice, in 1974 and 1980.

Wolves have long-standing rivalries with other West Midlands clubs; the main one is with West Bromwich Albion, against whom they contest the Black Country derby and with whom Wolves has played more league fixtures (146) than any other football opponent, even though the two clubs have not met in a league fixture since 2011–12 (the last season they competed in the same division as each other). Wolves also share rivalries with the two Birmingham clubs, Aston Villa and Birmingham City, though they are much further away than West Bromwich. They play their homes games at the Molineux Stadium, the first stadium ever built for use by a Football League club and one of the first British grounds to have floodlights installed and it hosted some of the earliest European club games in the 1950s.

Very hard to predict. Could be 4-0 United, 2-2, or 0-1.

Pretty sure Rashford will start with Martial hence their early withdrawal today.

Ole will pretty much play full strength as he will fancy getting through the next round too with the draw and will concede that the Carabao Cup has likely gone.

As we should. More than enough time to rest for Liverpool.

Don't really care for the cup. Great if we win, no big deal if we don't.

Out of the Carabao so might as well go for this.
Romero will probably come in but I wouldn’t be changing much else even if we have to play the dippers next.

Should be pretty much full strength for this. Next 4 are Wolves, Liverpool, burnley and City. Cant see us doing much from liverpool and City away, while we should be going all out in the FA Cup here.

    Romero
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Williams
    Fred Matic
    Greenwood Pereira Rashford

Would play Mata here again. Greenwood/James in for Pereira and then the same defense.

Could still turn it around against City if we really go for it. They aren't the best at defending, but of course we need to score 3 against them. If we can start like we did in the away game against them we got a chance.

Still it is say 5% chance or less that we do it.

I think we will beat Wolves. Ole will put out a strong team. This may be our best chance of a trophy this year

Optimistic about this one, we'll go into the Liverpool game at Anfield riding a high before we come crashing back down to earth. :D

The only alright thing is that Liverpool will win the league even if we beat them. Thus it only really feck with our league season apart from hurting a lot for the moment if they win.

I think we can win based on watching Pool today. Spurs should have had 3-4 goals in that game. Thus we should be able to hurt them with our attack, but we must be clinical . I worry about Salah against Williams/Shaw though and Firmino is in good form too.

Agreed, the key phrase being if we're clinical. Would be awesome to halt their run and stop them going unbeaten.

Can someone remind me if it's penalties or extra time if level after 90 minutes? The last thing United need before Liverpool on Sunday is extra time.

    The FA Cup rules state:

When a replayed match is drawn after 90 minutes, an extra 30 minutes shall be played, and 15 minutes shall be played in each half.

If the score is still level at the end of extra time, the winner shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty mark in accordance with the procedure adopted by the International Football Association Board.

In the event that extra time is played in any match a Club may at its discretion use one additional substitute player, (a fourth in total) from the nominated seven substitutes, during such period of extra time.

We can't sacrifice a chance for silverware to focus on the 0 that's gotta go. Let's take care of Wolves first with our strongest possible team, and then we'll do the business next weekend anyway.

Crazy fixture list coming up in the league over the next 9 games..

Dont really expect anything from Liverpool at the moment.. and the league cup should be a write off..

So go for this.. try and get through.. and make the EL the #1 priority.

That said, our strongest XI at the moment still has Matic, Pereira and Fred in midfield.. so that isnt saying much.

Rashford needs to be rested for this. At max on bench. Martial, Greenwood and James can still be a decent front 3. Need some rotation in midfield and defense too.
Wolves too I reckon will rotate, they play Saturday away to form team Southampton after this Wednesday night match.

Strongest available team, should be played for this game, including DDG in net.
There is plenty of time to rest before Liverpool, the FA Cup needs to be taken seriously, could be our only real hope of winning anything this season.

I’d be tempted to try 352 - I think that’s what we’ll play against Liverpool. We don’t really have the options at CB though - maybe AWB to RCB?

    Romero
    AWB - Maguire - Lindelof
    Dalot - Fred - Matic - Williams
    Mata
    Rashford - Martial

I'd like to see that but replace Dalot with Laird.

I would expect Bailey, TFM and Garner to be involved in the squad after playing on Friday for the U23’s

We only need 2 at City. Theres no away goals rule in the semi. If 3.3 at 90 minutes then it goes straight to penalties. No extra time

I imagine it'll be the same starting 11 as saturday, the front 4 combined well so I can't see a reason to switch it up.

I am pretty sure both the coaches and the players want to win the FA cup. It would be of good help for the younger players, good experience before next season. So expecting the best possible team and hope for a decent performance and a win. It's time to have some wolfsteak.

Both sides rotated for the first game so I'd imagine both will do so again. Whatever the side they put out it would be nice to put a win together against them, so far since their return to the PL our record has been

    P5
    D3
    L2
    W0

    H 1-1
    A 2-1
    A 2-1
    A 1-1
    A 0-0

We play them again at home in the league next month as well and it would not surprise me if we get them in the EL

If Ole can somehow resist the overwhelming temptation to start Lingard or Periera, I can see us scoring somewhere between 3-5 goals whilst conceding precisely 0. Resulting in a comfortable win and progression to the next round.

This management stuff is easy. I've no idea why so many fail to produce the goods.
