Nice little cameo from Gomes, baffling how little game time he’s been getting considering how little or poor options we have in that area. Would be a shame to see him leave.

Thought the pass to that Daniel James attempt was another case of his vision. Not as much as the Mata pass, but it's just a sign that he's getting more comfortable with his surroundings.

He has a lovely passing range. Shame he hasn't been given more playing time this season.

Hopefully the club can convince him to sign that contract, would be a shame to lose him without giving him a chance to fulfill his potential here

He didn’t get many minutes today, but still he didn’t disappoint either. Decent short cameo

Do we really need Bruno? Can't we give this guy more chances?
Yes.

Gomes will get plenty of minutes and he needs to take his chance. Today he did good.

Don't forget we haven't even heard if he's signed a new deal or not yet! he might be walking this summer.

yeah i know, but i think if Bruno joins he's defo walking.

Anyway, can't really fault him for wanting to go to La Masia to improve.

I don't think us signing a midfielder is the difference whether he stays at the club or not.

La Masia hasn't created anybody decent since their golden generation either.

It's more competition isn't it? Without Bruno, Gomes only managed to get 6 appearances this season even though our mids all appear to be crocked or useless.

But we do need more players anyway so I'm indifferent. I hope he stays. I value Gomes more than Chong.

Thiago, but other than him, they're kind of like all the other good academies. Create a great player every now and then, and create a bunch of decent players that can play in the 1st or 2nd division.

Anybody being honest will say he just doesn't look physically ready. He's fairly slow, not strong and hasn't got very good work rate yet.

He will grow into it I'm sure but he's not ready to play a full 90 minutes at full premier league pace, he needs to be patient and we have to build him up.

Mata is near the end of his career, Lingard probably needs a new challenge, Pereira has not convinced in any role so far (but I think he will be a very good squad player), so I think there is a case for both Gomes and Bruno (if we do sign him) in the squad, and possibly both can play in the same team in certain matches.

Come off it. Adama Traore, Mauro Icardi, Delofeu, Oriol Romeu, Keita Balde, Munir, Antonio Sanbria. Just to name a few currently playing week in week out in top leagues.

Also much rather Gomes takes a chance rather than sat on the bench cooling his heels when he could be getting valuable game time. Look at Abraham.
The only one of those slightly above decent is Traore and Icardi. Traore left after being deemed not good enough and is only JUST reaching his potential at Wolves, Icardi was at Barca 3 years and never played. He grew at Inter, not Barca.

For their famed reputation that's hardly a mammoth of world class talent is it? no better than any other top club academy.

My point is Gomes going to Barca right now is no way any better than staying here, infact he'd struggle with game time more in their midfield than ours.

Yes, what we should be doing is buying Bruno for first choice and giving Gomes lots of mins as backup/pushing for the first team spot like Greenwood is doing. Mata and Lingard can go in the bin, and yes I know Mata had two assist today.

This was what I thought the summer plan was until the contracts got handed out.

One thing he needs to work on a bit is having a bit more buzz in his movement off the ball in the middle but that'll probably come with confidence. Apart from that he looks a great player with the ball at his feet, definitely worth having on the bench.

I think going into the season he easily looked the most physically ready to compete of our young players. Beyond that, match sharpness and confidence come into it.

I agree that he needs to be built up and introduced carefully, but that was true at the start of the season too and it hasn’t happened as yet. There is no reason to think that the second half of the season will go any better for him really. The same will very likely be true going into next season, if he stays.

See most of the time we would have had someone pass that ball to the right or the player 5 yards away. That pass was sublime and what we are missing for most of the season thus far with Pogs injured. I sincerely wish he gets more game time and he starts against Wolves on Wednesday

He did well against Spurs but then hardly played.

The other matches so far this season have been quite poor with splashes of quality. I don't blame Ole for not relying on him like he has with Greenwood, but I would agree he deserves more minutes.

I think most of this though is due to the contractual issues and injuries.

Don't get why people lose their shit over Ole not playing him.

Ole has proven he will give youth a chance, almost to a fault. If Gomes isn't getting minutes it's for a legit reason eg, contract issues, or not training well.

He's looked a lot better in his last couple of cameos than he did at the start of the season, hopefully he gets a bit of a run now as we need someone in his position.

Silly question there. We need an upgrade in that no 10, it’s a vital role and relying on Gomes as our no 10 staring XI is not the answer. Beside, Bruno’s age will suit Gomes as well and he can learn things from Bruno.

Howson suggesting these minutes he's been getting is a sign that things have moved in a positive direction over his contract

They said that about Pogba before he left.
Crerand and everybody in MUTV said he must have signed ffs and off he went

Yeah, that was what I was feeling too, don't think we'd be playing him unless we'd made a breakthrough. It'd be good to keep him, he's an immensely talented lad, once he gets to grips with the men's game he'll be a really useful asset.

That was 8 or so years ago, the academy's been completely changed since then, I think it should be interpreted as a positive sign. Howson does have credibility with the academy.

Decent 14 minutes. Shame he didn't come on at 3-0 with over 30 mins left.

I still think Solskjaer should have tried to give Gomes 10 starts this season in Europa League and domestic Cup competitions, regardless of how well he performed.

His first competitive game in the Europa was probably the best of the season up to that point from someone deployed in the no.10 role. From the next Europa game he was moved out wide. In the league, I don’t think he even featured in the squad till Pogba was injured and basically just made up the numbers.

Solskjaer has chopped and changed in his position over the season, giving time initially to all of Pereira, Lingard and Mata, and the role has settled into a competition between the former two. Gomes’ position has been clear from the off. We don’t replace Lukaku and carefully introduce Greenwood to the seniors, and it took a bit of time but it now appears he is in genuine contention for league starts. We give new contracts to both Pereira and Mata, and Solskjaer kicks off the season with no intention of giving Gomes a fair crack of the whip. Being injury free would have made little difference and contractual issues shouldn’t come into it.

If Gomes can perform, I am sure Ole will start playing him. Look at Greenwood and Brandon. If Ole is a better manager in winning games early like today 3-0, 4-0 then the likes of Gomes, Chong and Greenwood can be thrown in for a 20 mins cameo. Hopefully, this team start putting away team earlier then these players can start playing regularly.

I too hope it's a sign the contract negotiations are going well. He is a top talent and can become world class imo. Even should we sign Bruno, we will hopefully get rid of Lingard and Mata will play a part time role with only one more year on his contract. Plenty of opportunities there.

That’s complete shite, Chong has been getting more minutes than him and he’s actively in negotiations with other clubs. Gomes has been injured or ill when he would have gotten time. Hewson knows nothing.

He's a bullshit artist, he won't know anything more about his contract situation than you or me.

Yes we do, or even a better player. And I mean in this transfer window. It's too late now in the season to "experiment" with Gomes as the main no 10. Part of my disappointment with Ole or whoever is managing things is that the experiment was stopped after he played against Leeds in the prea-season. For an inexplicable reason. Revived after several weeks vs Astana (at Old Trafford) and we are back to flogging a dead horse. The rest of the season should be used for Gomes' integration, so we are still in urgent need of a matured AM.
