Unfortunately you are probably right here. I think Ed and Judge are feeling the heat a little and feel they need to be seen to be presenting some sort of solution, whether thats signings or progressing Academy etc.

But the answer to all the time wasting and dragged out deals, is more than likely down to the two incompetent jobsworths tasked with them
Probably, but could also be the player asking for more money or bonuses or an all manner of things, transfers take time to process, sure they couldve been hashing out a deal all throughout the season, we don’t know.

Bruno did sign a new contract in the summer but that was to add in a release clause of some sort, which most likely may be why we’re talking now.

But hey, I’m spit balling, for all the noise that’s coming out between the camps, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t happen

Some of the moaning in this thread is literally insane.

The guy absolutely smashed the Portuguese league.

He has a very good record in the Europa League - including this season.

And he is a full Portugal international.

He isn't a guaranteed success, no player is. But if this isn't the sort of player that we should be targeting, who the hell is?
Agree, Some fans would moan if it was Messi coming here.

We better fecking sign him in time for Liverpool. We can't go into that game with Lingard starting.

He wouldn't make his debut away to Liverpool anyway. Maybe from the bench but definitely not to start.

Even if he does sign in time, I'm not sure chucking him against Liverpool at Anfield for his first start would be a great idea....

That's a real baptism of fire.

It seems to have become our mantra, make low offers drag it out and then the window closes. We then go back for the player and we end up paying more than they were asking for last window and we pay it. It’s horrendous mismanagement of the club and this is one of the things I don’t blame ole for. It seems Woodward can’t haggle or negotiate.

I also saw some posts regarding Steve Bruce and Harry Mag. I remember when we signed Brucey. Strong and well built, he used to joke he didn’t care about putting his head where it hurt cos he was so ugly. But my god was Brucey slow and I mean slow. Pally had to cover him so many times. I think Harry Mag is a better centre half. Bruce’s captained england B if I remember but never played for England. If Kane is injured Maguire will likely captain England, 1st team. He is just as brave as Bruce (he always has been ever since I remember him in the youth cup final against us when he was at Sheffield United - memory isn’t the same anymore, think I’m right here). But he has a hell of a lot more pace than Brucey. I mean I’ve seen Brucey make some howlers and a half over the years. Brucey is probably the better penalty taker!!!!!

I also saw a post about best maybe not surviving today’s football. Yeah can’t agree. If you’ve seen George Best play you’d realise he can fit anywhere and anytime in football he was extra extra special.

My biggest criticism of best would be getting too cocky at too young an age and throwing an incredible talent away at such a young age. He also showed enormous disrespect to the man who really built this club, Sir Matt, turning up drunk before matches near the end of his time but I’m sure he was like 27 only.. Inslulting and a waste of enormous talent. But there is no doubt in my mind he would have survived any generation of football and would have played at the highest highest levels, when he was sober.

There isn’t a player in this squad who could take the ball off him. In fact with the Nancy laws in place now, he probably would have scored more goals, provided more assists than he did when he was being regularly chopped down with the worst tackles you’ve seen but he either Rode them with ease or just got back up no fuss.

Only lord Bryan Robson could turn up to a game worst for wear and win MoM. Not everyone can handle their drink and play at the highest levels

We were signing all summer and zero actually happened. Same old tripe being recirculated as they want to raise the profile of one of their players who they are looking to sell. Fans just buy into the hype over and over again...

Indeed.

Some of those middle-aged Liverpool fans from Bristol can really boo.

If Utd end up paying close to the fee quoted in the summer, it will prove negotiating incompetence.

Factors supposedly in play:

1. Sporting are cash poor.
2. Sporting approached Utd.
3. Fernandes wants to leave.
4. Fernandes is not OGS top choice.
5. Fernandes’ contract has wound down a further 6 months.
6. Risk due to disparity between leagues.

Utd should be haggling over this out of sheer diligence. They need to correct the recent reputation of paying over the odds out of desperation (whether deserved or not). To be held over a barrel by a club desperate for money who are offering you their player would be incompetence.
But didn’t he sign a new contract with a bigger release clause?

Losing Pereira as part of the deal would make no sense. Why would he want to go play in the Portuguese league anyway.

I won't get excited until and IF it happens.

EPL is shit mate. Outside of Liverpool and City, and sometimes Leicester, our league is garbage.
Plus the quality of defenders has died a fecking death. City are playing Fernandinho there for feck sake.
European football and coefficient would prove you to be wrong.

Getting an opinion from a benfica fan related to any sporting player when they never had a world class player coming from their ranks and only joke of players like Felix and sanches unlike Sporting with Figo and Ronaldo. I wouldn’t believe him too much what he said when Fernandes was one of the best players for sporting before they disbanded 2 years ago.
So what do you disagree about what I said? If you see my comment history I try to not be biased at all in my opinions. Bruno Fernandes plays for one of the weakest sides Sporting has ever had, with no pressure at all and never performed on a good level in the National Team. It seems the deal is about to go through so we don't have to wait much to see if Bruno Fernandes is up to the standards of the Premier League.
PS: It's funny how you talk about players that played for Sporting 15-20 years ago for 1 season but fail to mention the last players you sold and flopped hard. EX: João Mario, Adrien, Slimani, Gelson Fernandes, etc...

We have become ten bobbers when it comes to buying or selling players.Other clubs just get on with it while we tell Everyman and his dog what we are trying to achieve, The glaziers are nothing but penny pinching pikey cnuts.Sooner they are gone the better.

We all love United
Andreas has been playing a lot of games for us this season and done reasonably well. We will look like cnuts if we ask him to go out on loan in exchange to buying another player for a favour. And i like the guy, he doesn’t shirk from responsibility on the pitch although his quality is a bit lacking at times

European football and coefficient would prove you to be wrong.
League having more than 4 teams would prove that wrong too.
Look at Spurs form as they reached the CL final, look at the last 3 months of results from Chelsea and Arsenal as they reached the EL final. The race for top 4 ended up a dud since we all lost every fecking week.
Feck me, if thats the standard that sets us apart then good luck to us. No wonder Liverpool and City are setting records at our expense.
God forbid other leagues would have Vardy, Ings and Abraham move to them, they would really out the foot down then!

Isn't that what happened to Vidic and Evra? Might be imagining it though.

Evra made his debut against City and got pulled at HT when we were 2-0 down. I think Vidic made his debut after that. Cant recall.

Yes he did sign a new contract. But SSN reported they brought down the price to 60million in this window. If this is right, it should be done and dusted now.
Why should we pay €60m for a player that Sporting have been actively trying to sell? They want to sell him we're the only buyers, we are right to be digging our heels in and force the price down.

Walk away if Sporting are making things difficult. They are desperate to sell but we ain’t desperate to buy
The caf is 100% absolutely desperate to buy. Reckon many here would give them Old Trafford if Sporting asked for it  .

THIS IS THE GUY

Our negotiations are painful, it's embarrasing that we seem to have all our dirty laundry in public each and every time. It makes me wonder if all this just isn't PR. If we want the player, pay the price.

Go in with a fair offer. Get the deal done and announce it. What we seem to do every time by haggling in public is so unprofessional. I guess Ed wants to show that we're not push overs, but it shows us in a very bad light.

It sticks in my throat, but we need to have done what Liverpool did this window. No fanfare, straight in and sign the player on the opening day of the window. I don't know what we are doing, but it's pitiful.
