The guy comes across as an absolute weapon. He was a dickhead at the World Cup, not to mention being completely average.

Yeah, I don't like him. He's this tough guy who's an accident waiting to happen.

He is one of those players who gets overrated because he is cocky and looks confident.

He has a bit of the swagger of a top player and it fools people.

He is ok.. Which is fine.. but no better than what England have had.. Foster was fine. Heaton is fine.

No it's not a coincidence. It's because they hired the best manager in the world, rather than decent but unexceptional ones like Pellegrini and Mancini.

He wasn't a liability at City for most of his career, he was one of the best keepers in the league. He had a dramatic drop off and turned in to an absolute joke, but that doesn't mean that we have to rewrite history and pretend he was always a poor keeper. He had the odd off game and had his weaknesses like every keeper who isn't a great, but he was a good goalie.

Being passionate and singing your national anthem loudly (as people were demanding?) sums up how over-hyped he was? How do you know that allowed him to lose concentration?
Agree he must have had some good times, as all jokes aside you don't become England's number 1 for nothing, let alone play for this era City.

However, the press certainly gave him one hell of an easy ride despite a lot of mistakes, seen as a total contrast to De Gea who they got after hugely at first.

Yes, some of that is the United will always get more focus side of things, but a lot of it was good old not wanting to put down English players.
We saw it with Rooney, where it was like there was some code amongst journalists to not be the first one to point the obvious out - that he was super washed up.
Once one started doing it, they all converged, but it took a lot of mediocrity to get there.

He is shit. Has been for a while. Those that get their football news through British media (instead of watching games) rate him. Which is quite a large portion of the country. With twitter access unfortunately.
It's always easy to get caught up in the everyone's either brilliant or useless black or white opposites, but I just never saw it with this guy.
Amazed he's England's number one, but I just put that down to the quality being generally pony.

I've always thought he's very ordinary. At the World Cup I wanted Jack Butland to be picked ahead of him. Still think that guy is better. I didn't watch much o the City game yesterday - did he foul up (again)?

He definitely has flair for injury time howlers. This is hilarious.

To be fair, he barely had time to move back. His defenders let him down big time
He was supposed to move forward, mate. Other side of the goal line.

Don't understand what you expect from that position after he tricked to dive on his right.

You need super powers to do that.

He could try stretching out for a punch rather than catch with his body.

In Pickfords case his arms are probably not long enough to make a difference, but still.

Don't think any super powers are needed though. He clearly simply doesn't realise he's on the wrong side of the line.

Don't get why the feck he needed to jump so far back either but I assume it has something to do with his short arms.

Very harsh criticism I think, the still image makes it look worse but it looked clear to me was behind the goal line as he started diving for the shot that was blocked.

It was a half dive, the momentum took him to the right and in order to fix that footing he needed to step inside the goal. By then it's too late, the 3rd shot is impossible to read, it happened so fast in already chaos situation.

EDIT:
For me the mistake was him panicking/erratic to dive whenever he can. He needs to be composed in this situation.

He's there because he reacts too quickly and explosively to the previous shot which is blocked by his defender

That's what tends to happen with non elite gks who rely entirely on their athleticism. It's both his biggest strenght(the reason he's a decent goalkeeper at all) but can easily turn into a weakness in those kind of confused situations(and often does)

Looks like he anticipated a high shot and moved to tip it over the bar but it never came so he ended up behind the line?

It looks hilarious as a still image but when you see the full replay as others have said I think it's clear he is anticipating the second shot, dives to his right, then due to his positioning as a result when he tries to save the third shot he has ended up behind the line. Not really that bad a mistake, unfortunate more than anything.

Should never end up behind the goal line in the first place. It's a bizarre jump.

I think it's like Mechanic says, he's expecting a high shot so jumps that way, which results in him being behind the line.
Even so there is no reason for him to be jumping so far backwards like that.

What baffled me the most is why on earth those 2 players didn't rush back inside the box after that embarassing sliding tackles. They could've gone inside and put their bodies on the line.

I don't think he meant to jump that far. He's too explosive and doesn't have enough control

As usual everyone making a big thing out of nothing. It was clear that, following his previous saves that took him into the net, allowed him no, or very limited time to get back into his neutral position.

He has previous, and because of that, people obviously find it amusing to take the mick, which is fair play.

He's a classic example of a hyped young english player moving for big bucks because he's "the next big thing"

He looked good at Sunderland, because he was constantly needed and made a few eye catching saves. He was over worked and the number of saves probably masked the errors in his game. Keepers who play in teams who desperately defend are often labelled as "Hero's" because making multiple saves is eye catching, whereas under more scrutiny he's been found out he's just "ok"

We also should not have put him into that position. Mistake of his in terms of anticipation and distribution late on in the game but ffs this was a team meltdown. They should have kept possession like they did for the first 90 and everyone has to take the blame.
