He wanted to leave to go abroad. Wages weren't really the issue - he turned down a very big increase offer, which, on the plus side, saved Spurs a lot of money.
I mean if he had of signed a contract you could have sold him for 100 million. I am not sure how it saved you money?

And, as I said, we've sold him for more than we paid for him, despite his having just a few months left on his contract. Plus, with his help we became an established top 4 club … and now we've replaced him with Lo Celso, who looks to be an excellent player.
One of your key players, 27 years old and transfer fees have gone tits up vs a 20 year old player from Ajax before transfer fees went tits up. That's some mental gymnastics in order to justify being happy about the sale.

Hes being sold for 16m, not sure the 100m bid was there but thats because of where they are now. They could have sold him for proper money as soon as they knew he wasnt staying.
Theyve fecked up the asset.

He ceased being one of our key players quite some time ago, probably because he lost interest in performing well. He turns 28 in a couple of weeks, so Spurs have likely had the best of him.

I would I have preferred that Eriksen signed a new contract a couple of years ago and then continued to be a key player for us. But he wanted to go abroad for a new challenge - so be it.

He was a key player last season, that's not some time ago. I'm sure he'll find form again when his contract situation resolves be it at Inter or somewhere else.

A new challenge is fair enough. It sucks as a supporter but not much you can do about it if a player wants to make the most out of their short career. Obviously would have been better for all parties had it resolved last summer but what can you do.

You can't sell a player at a price no one is interested in. Only a few clubs can afford that kind of money, and none seem to want him at a fraction of it. I don't think he's quite good enough to be that kind of money, in terms of the realistic chance of what a club would actually pay

Pretty sure there would be clubs paying 80m or so if you were to sell him when he was still at the top of his game....like us

It seems like no one actually bothered to though, otherwise we'd surely have heard about it.

It's not really a huge deal though in his current state - if he leaves for €20m, it's still a profit on the €12.5m we paid for him, and probably works out that we have paid very little for him including wages over that 6.5 years or so

I feel at his peak he was, but was happy at Spurs with the Pochettino project when he was at his best. At 27 he still has time to recover some of his best form, he isnt 33 or something, he is in his prime as a player. Just lacking form. Probably a good move for all involved. Jose era now at Spurs so time for some changing of the guard, good buy for Inter, new challenge in a different league for Eriksen.

This. Those suggesting Man Utd are fools for not signing him really are deluded about the club’s current standing in the minds of players. I think a lot of players also do the spade work in the premier league in the hope of winning that move to a dominant club outside the intensely physical pl later where games are slightly easier for those two reasons.

I'm quite happy with the way things have turned out.
Ah come on don't be silly. He wanted to go abroad? You really think that? And you're quite happy how the way things turn out?

This was just bad contract management from Spurs. Same happenend many times at Arsenal. And I guess in the future there will be much more such decisions because you had to change your salary structure. I hope (or not) for Spurs the next time they will learn from their mistakes.

Either give him a good contract in the first place or sell him before he goes into the last year of his contract. Their last salary offer at the begining of the season was £200k but then he knew already that he will be a free agent and will earn a lot more. If you gave him a better contract offer already 2years ago I guess he would have signed a new contract.

Now you're getting £20m which I find is quite good in this situation but If you sold him half a year ago it would have been +£40m more.

Very little knowledge of the player here, this isn't the first time he has carried on like this, done the very same at Ajax. He stated publically that unless a big club came in for him he would stay, so god knows what he was saying behind the scenes.

We Have been in contract talks with him for at least 2 years as is the way we do contracts. He or his wife had there mind made up they wanted to leave the country and leave the country they have.

Time supporters stopped blaming the clubs and rather realise that some players don't really give a shite about the clubs that employ them and we are seeing more, quite rightly so looking after their own interests.

Thanks for everything. One of our most important and best players for the past decade, with a lot of great memories.

He's sadly kind of sullied his legacy a little with his performances over the past year or so as his mind has been elsewhere perhaps but hopefully the fans forget this last section and remember him for his contribution as a whole.

Feel slightly sorry for him in a way, I think he genuinely thought Real and Barcelona were going to go in hard for him this summer and perhaps felt slightly jolted when this didn't materialise.

Still, I wish him the best of luck and hope to see him succeed at Milan.

Fee hasn't been reported as far as I can tell yet but he has only 6 months left on his contract.

In a way, its a testament to Eriksen that he didn't just wait it out for 6 months, go on a free and pocket most of whatever the fee will be as a signing bonus.

Honestly someone needs to get on the phone with Conte and let him know that it’s hard, really really hard to make a signing in January.

:D . No, in all seriousness, I really wish him all the best. I hope he finishes this season with at least 1 trophy and manages to rediscover his form.
He had a good innings with Spurs, pity he left with his form so low. Be nteresting so see if he gets it back at Inter.

What a coup by Inter. Swift transfer at extremely low fee also.

Hardly a coup, no one else seemed to want to be willing to put up a transfer fee for him, he would have been free come the summer and they still needed to pay a pretty high wage for him. Having said that I have no doubt he will be a massive success in Italy.

I saw a stat saying that since his Premier League debut in 2013 (or whenever it was) he's the player with most assists, most chances created, most goals from outside the box and most free kick goals. Pretty decent.

EDIT:
