He's the sort of player our rivals buy and then people moan why weren't we in for him.
If our rivals bought him, he'd only be a squad player tbh.
City for example have 3 players who play that position who are by far better, and a 4th who has more natural talent and potential.

Grealish isnt good enough for the top level. A mid table team pushing for a Europa league spot, sure. Not more. There's a massive gap between the likes of Eriksen, De Bruyne, Bernardo and David Silva, Pogba, etc (creative playmaker midfielders good enough to justify that role for the top level clubs), compared to Grealish.

Hope, We Lose

Impressive numbers, to be fair.
Strange to put a left winger in that list

Here's where he is, playing in the winger position where he scored all of his goals (5 in 9 games) and set up 2 of his 5 assists

Goals :

Assists :

As a CM he's been very unproductive.

Dean Smith emphatically denied that Grealish had a release clause in an interview a couple of weeks ago.
Of course he is going to deny it. Why would he say in public that he has a release clause other than to attract interest?

Would look like a bit of an idiot if he said that, and someone activated it a few days later.

All this talk about knowledge of release clauses, you just ask the player or his agent and they tell you. It’s not an episode of Sherlock Homes.

Talk about being on an agenda...

He has played few minutes as a winger. And in terms of producing key passes, assists or big chances from open play he is alot more productive than Maddison. Despite playing for a very poor team.

Not scored enough goals, but his xg90 is not that much worse than Maddison and if he played there consistently he would be close. For a very poor side compared to Maddison.

It's hard to judge how he'd be in a top team but he does significantly lift an otherwise poor Villa team, the majority of their attacking play goes through him.

I think from an individual skill level, he's very very good, and showed seeds of his talent when he was last in the PL and then developed further in the Championship. I think he's the type of player that would not look out of place in SAF team with his skillset. He can dribble, play a pass, score, but more importantly he protects and handles the ball well. He's not a Pogba or a De Bruyne stylistically, nor really a winger, funnily enough the player he reminds me the most of is Rooney.

People will always say that he is a big fish in a small pond, that he stands out because the team is poor or that the team is build around him etc..

The only way to find out is once he moves to a top club if he has it to be a top player. The random and same predictions to every player moving from a smaller to a bigger clubs are boring. That may or may not be true, but most players start at a smaller club and have to adapt to a big club. That is why scouts are there and assess his true potential.

In a football sense he isnt a youngster.
Greenwood is 6 years younger! Is he an infant?
Greenwood is a teenager and 24 is still a good age. The guy is only 1 year difference to Maddison and same age as Martial.

Just sign him and Maddison and play them together in a budget De Bruyne/D.Silva midfield

I’m a big fan. Would love to bring him in and you’d hope he wouldn’t cost the earth assuming we went for him at the end of the season once Villa are relegated.

If we don’t sign him, expect one of the other big clubs to pick him up.

I'd be very surprised if Grealish is the best signing we can make for the No.10 spot regardless if he costs £45m.

He's a good player and all but we can get better and we need better.
We need better but who can we get for this “better player”?

People need to realise that with our current situation we will struggle to get the top class proven players, thus why we do this type of signing, then we improve & develop the players to become better & top players, just like what Klopp did on players like Mane & Salah. After that, we will have a lot of top players in our squad, start winning more matches and later on we can convince proven top players to join us., just like how Klopp signed van Dijk & Alisson.

Grealish has become far and away my first choice for CM/AM signing. He seems to have matured a lot since his younger days, has a mentality which will see him succeed in a bigger club and is also at the perfect age and experience to have an impact immediately. And I also like players who have played in the lower leagues. That seems to instill some amount of steel mentally and physically on the players.
And caf please don't expect us to sign him in January and to just be disappointed and start blaming everyone. There's no way Grealish will leave Villa or Villa will let him go in January given their relegation battle.

He ain't leaving in January, it's a similar situation to Zaha at Palace if he's still interesting the better clubs.

Could well have better luck in the summer, Maguire transfer probably a decent guide there.

Grealish is a top talent who can only improve if he goes to a top club & receives top coaching. He has all the skills & has a footballing brain. The question is "could Ole take him to the next level" ??

When I first heard UTD were after McGinn and Grealish, I thought how bad we have fallen but now I take both of them without a thought. They both can really excel in the midfield with Bruno.

Soumare, Saul, Llorente, Parades, Hervertz etc sounds good but they can turn like Essien OR Bakayoko. We never know.
So I take the premiere league established players who got a fight in them with talent.

Assuming the Fernandes deal goes ahead, I wonder if will that rule out us going for Grealish in the summer?
Some people have said that Fernandes can play as an 8, if we used Grealish as a 10. I’m not so sure.

Crazy to think Spurs tried a 25m offer.
To be fair if memory serves it wouldn't have taken much more to get him, he wanted the move and Villa would probably have accepted around £35m.

He's a terrific player Graelish but even up to last season there were a lot of people questioning him, but he came back from injury at the start of 2019 has basically been sublime since.

It's not a huge surprise because I remember watching him in the Championship play off they lost in 2018 and he was their best player, I remember him in the PL around 2013 and he was technically good then. He's one of those that like Januzaj, a young Ronaldo etc need consistent playing time and a supportive club to really help them become a top player. That stint in the championship probably did him good.

Been outstanding tonight. Just a goal missing from a genuine 10/10 performance
