Cannot see us signing him until the summer, so maybe that suggests we are not going to sign someone short term until the end the season and instead wait until there are better options available then. Personally I think we really could do with someone who has that physical presence in the box right now who is prepared to gamble and get on the end of things.
I meant the qualities he described in a striker he wants fit Maxi Gomes. We have been linked with him out of the blue. May be there is something going on behind the scenes.
If we're being honest there aren't any good strikers available to buy right now. Piatek is shit and it's good we didn't chase after him. Cavani rejected us. Except Mertens I just don't see any decent striker we can buy that is available. But feck knows why we're not in for him. Proven goal scorer, experienced, consistent and cheap (10m)
If we don't want Mertens then loan options are the best right now. Our goalscorer is injured and Martial is proving to not be reliable for goals so we need a goal scorer right now. I don't know any team any team that can get top 4 without one.

I think it’s a perfect opportunity to loan a striker. With the Euros in the summer, any out of favour striker is going to give it his all to avoid missing out on their national squad.
Have we ever needed a striker more than now?

Don't understand why we aren't even looking at Mertens as a short term solution. Can play through the middle and from the right and is a proven goalscorer.
Cos he's in his 30s, would want probably a three or four year contract and big wages? Can definitely see why we're not in for him

Back in the day, Sir Alex casually top up his stock of strikers even though he had a couple of world class strikers.
How do you know we arent? They are keeping it far more hidden this time around.
That beeing said, I think they are looking for someone PL proven if it isnt a long term signing.
Jovic on loan is worth a punt, potentially could be a longer term option as well. Edouard or Morelos would be gambles as permanent signings but have potential and wouldn’t break the bank.

Loans generally happen right at the end of the January window. Can definitely see us getting one over the line today or tomorrow if someone decent comes available.
Jovic loan with option to buy would be the dream singing. Otherwise, as I've said couple of times, take a punt at Jonathan David. He'd cost around 15m.
It kind of feels as if it was never on the agenda to get a striker and ones Rashford's injury was confirmed to be that lengthy they just started running through whatever scouting reports they have.

I would like Jimenez or, failing that, Ings. Both are Premier League proven and better than most of the options being bandied about here IMO

More mismanagement if this is the case. A panic loan or stop gap signing would be all but pointless and just serve to get in the way of Greenwood's gametime for little improvement on the pitch
True, but we’re pretty much down to the bone as Ole said yesterday. We could need another body with all these injuries.
The dream would be something like Henke Larsson for 6 months.
Putting all this pressure on Greenwood is just as bad as taking some minutes off him for the rest of the season.

James Copper on SSN just said we are trying to get centre forward in next 24 hours. Need a goalscorer. Martial just trotting around upfront not good enough.
There must be a player in the lower leagues who is scoring goals. Someone who just has a knack for scoring. Any club down there would take our hands off for maybe 5m for a 6 month loan or something. Just anything as an option is better than nothing. We don't need a big name and frankly it takes Ed a month to get one over the line, let alone two days. Who is banging them in for a lower league club who are mid table and not fighting for promotion or survival?
I would be fine with Slimani in. Agree with a poster above re: timing of loan deals. We won't get one done until tomorrow probably when teams have analysed their squads and decided who'll not fit or if they can get a replacement from their reserves or signing.
