where did this actually come from?

did someone say something or purely because we signed 3 British players in the summer?
Made up out of thin air. Anyone that's been paying attention to the fact that we tried to get Haaland and now Bruno could see it was shite.

The PL still haven’t received clarity on rules around EU players after Brexit as far as I know
Absolutely zero doubt that we’re going to see a special premier league immigration law come in IMO. It’s a major cash cow and brings a huge amount of foreign money into the country. Also won’t be surprised if they figure out a new lower tax rate aimed at encouraging the best foreign superstar players to come to the league (while funnily enough also giving a big tax break to other big earners, but it will be digestible to the layman who will understand their reasoning of getting the best in to make the league more attractive and earn more).

Heard some government bod on the radio saying that wages will be the general guide for VISAs in the new system on the logic if someones prepared to pay you big money you have worthwhile skills. If true, it seems this will make signing football players quite easy.

My passport runs out in March. If I renew it now will I get a red/brown passport for the next 10, get a blue one now or get a red/brown one and have to replace it in a year?

Post Brexit, EPL clubs are still allowed to recruit foreign players as before, except EU players will ALL be foreign, so all foreign rules apply, such as is he already a National? Assuming the foreign-local ratio doesn't change as rumour on FA management, then the biggest impact will be on Academy. No English Clubs will be able to recruit U18 players from Europe. i.e. No Pogba. I guess City, Chelsea and Arsenal will be impact the most, but we will have problem. In addition, Irish players (residing in Britain) may be forced to adopt English passport until 20+ when they can elect to re-represent Ireland...

Nothing is known yet because the UK is reforming immigration policy. The PL will be lobbying to sign u18 players on a special exemption I'm sure.

Its EU u18 players that will be out of reach. The only reason why we could was because EU law stopped FIFA from banning the practice but its not up to England or its politicians to create an exemption, its out of their hands.
This is FIFA dream scenario, Brexit has fecked us.

UK-Portugal relations have always been good so Bruno is just about acceptable for Brexit FC.

At the beginning of the Summer I remember Woodward saying that Ole has the final say on transfers. Then a week or two later Ole was asked about a player and he said that there's no way we're signing some the players mentioned because he never even heard about them. That got me thinking really ie Ole isn't going to sign players that he hasn't personally scouted. Which explains why Bruno wasn't signed in the summer and why we went for players Ole knew about ie Maguire, Wan Bissaka, James and Dybala (everyone knows whose Dybala is).

I think by January two things happened

a- our manager realised that the club simply lack the cash to keep on buying players Ole had watched regularly. He'll have to trust his scouts more
b- Ole had the time to check videos brought to him by scouts especially players the scouts really believed in (ie Bruno)

Which is why Bruno was signed.

A) managers don't always tell the truth to the press
B) saying you've never heard of someone is a great way to shit down speculation immediately
C) he will have learned nothing from watching Bruno live that he couldn't see in 2 hours at his desk from a multitude of proper clips as created by analysts and not 12 year old cnuts who like shit music.

I dont know where you got that from, as we both signed up to keep the common free travel area between our 2 countries last year that was originally signed prior to both of us joining 73 even in a no trade deal.

A/B- True but I do believe he wasn't lying. In fact he didn't as Ole went for safe options in the Summer, aka players he knew about
C- The videos and analysis reports brought in by scouts tend to be very different to the ones you see on youtube by fans. I happened to have seen a couple of them at waaaaaay lower level then Manchester United currently reside in and I assure you, they are far better then the crap you find on youtube.

The Athletic reported that United weren’t interested in signing Fernandes in the summer and all the links were coming from Portugal and the people around him as United had told them they were monitoring his progress.

Fast forward 6 months and the United scouts felt he had matured and was putting in more complete performances than last season so the club made an approach before he ended up going elsewhere in the summer. Also avoid a bidding war with Barcelona as they’re tied up with FFP until the summer.

Some people in this thread are too busy wiping the egg off their faces to respond right now.

We couldnt afford Brexit players so we signed Bruno ie one of the most expensive targets we had?
These mental gymnastics are ridiculous. We had many arguments about this nonsense and you became one of the cheif proponents of it.
6 months of this shit polluted tbe forum.

We bought Bruno for 47m. The British equivalent to the guy would be Maddison who would have costed us at least 80m-90m. The rebuilding United needs is massive. We can't keep buying players at 80m-90m a pop.

Doesn’t work like that. You have to become a citizen to get an English passport and live in the country 5+ years to do that. Most Irish footballers go over at 15/16 so they’d only get the passport after hitting 20. We can also become dual citizens. So if an Irish player does have to take up British citizenship, they can and still play for Ireland. Not to mention the free travel area is still in existence because Brexit isn’t actually Brexit because of Northern Ireland.

Maybe yes, Maybe no. What we do know is that last summer Ole went for what we call safe signings (Maguire, AWB, James and Dybala) ie players he personally knew about. It's also true that we ended up starting the season with a ridiculously small squad that was run to the ground by January. Something had to change after that. We couldn't keep on buying players that Ole knew about cause they were too expensive. The club couldn't afford it and Ole couldn't afford it either.

The rebuild is 6-8 players in reality, not all of these will be British but I would expect Grealish or Maddison to be one of the incomings in the summer, Maybe Max Aarons also.

The players don’t have to be British, they just need to hit the ground running. We’ve made a bid for King this morning who isn’t British but knows the PL well. I’m sure we’ll have a go at a few Wolves players in the summer as well.

It’s more about the adaptability and mentality of the players we’re after and that’s what clubs pay big money for. At those prices we won’t sign 6 players in one window but it’s better to get 3 right than 6 wrong.

We have two players in our history who cost that?
Also, British players have been overpriced for decades, hell Maguire and AWB cost us 130m amidst the height of the Bxit fc nonsense so pretending this approach is curbed by a sudden realisation that its costly is bullshit quite frankly.

Safe or solid signings? If Moyes would have taken this approach instead of chasing the likes of Fabregas and Bale all summer he could possibly still have a job.

Solskjaer knows he only has a season to show foundations of a rebuild so why waste that time going for obscure players based oversees in the hope they can adapt to the PL in a month or so? It’s a massive gamble that costs managers their jobs.

I don't give a feck about nationality really but we do agree that

a- the rebuild is indeed massive. 6-8 players are going to be expensive
b- The players in the EPL tend to be ridiculously overpriced. I mean we spent 80m on a slow CB and 50m on a fullback with 1 full EPL season experience under his belt and whose not very good in attacking. That's 130m on 2 defenders whose nowhere near to WC.

And I repeat I don't think its really about nationality. Its about whether the manager knows them enough to give the go ahead. All players who were really close to sign wit United were

a- England based (AWB, Maguire, James)
b- Ole had previously coached (King and Haaland)
c- are known by everyone (Dybala)

Bruno was a first. However what did Ole said about him? “We have been tracking Bruno for many months and everyone here has been tremendously impressed with all his attributes and what he will bring to this team.". So we did scouted him for many months.

We've got until (I think) December this year to sign any U18 foreign kids from abroad until it becomes impossible again. Our scouting team should be on a permanent holiday in Rio de Janeiro scooping up all those beach ballers whilst we have the chance.

Well, Bale and Fabregas were safe signings as well. Actually they were safer signings then Maguire and AWB were as unlike Maguire/AWB, Fabregas and Bale were WC players who knew exactly what playing for a top side means.

I understand the temptation of making safe signings. I mean who the feck likes signing a player who turns up to be a massive failure? However safe signings usually cost loads of money. We blew our entire budget on 2 safe signings only to be forced starting the season with no midfield, no RW and no proper cover upfront cause we probably ran out of juice. I doubt Sir Alex was happy taking gambles either especially gambles who backfired spectacularly (Djemba, Bellion, Bebe, Obertan etc). However he had to because sometimes you have no choice. We are rich but we're not rich enough to keep buying players 60m-80m a pop especially at a time of a massive rebuild.

Im hostile because this is disingenuous and polluted this forum for 6 months, polluted every transfer thread in this period then we get replies like this that knows it bullshit but is a kind of... Oh well.
You once told me we only linked ourselves to Eriksen, De Ligt and Dybala because we knew we wouldnt get them so we could dsguise our Brexit FC approach. All this nonsense folliwed by your weak excuse today has actually insulted me.
Its all so disingenuous and a waste of time. Its ok to be wrong but this taints any future discussion i may have with you. Which is unfortunate because you are generally a knowledgeable poster.
