Personally I liked the guy and wish him well wherever he ends up.
He always gave 100% although very injury prone the last couple of years.
He was a half decent centre back and if some of the prima donnas we have had over the last few years showed the same level of commitment the club would be in a better position to where it is now.

I swear he went into more tackles with 2 feet than he went into with 1.
How he doesn't have a collection of 20 red cards is a mystery to me....?!?!?

Nope that was also Van Gaal, allowed a promising young winger we bought for £10m to return to the club we just bought him from for £3m 18 months later. Another great piece of business, it's easy to see why we've spent the best part of a billion quid to assemble a mid-table squad.
I think this is arguably our worst piece of business since fergie, aside from sanchez that is.

He has 70 appearances as a center back and 43 appearances as a left back for Manchester United.
I have no reason to assume those numbers are not correct, but it would still mean almost half of his performances he was played out of position and was bad. I don't think we are arguing, unless you think he was never good as a centerback, in which case, I disagree.

Just as we were using 3 at the back, a system he is best suited to, we go and get rid of him.

Has to go down as one of the all time worst deals we've been involved with.
Fairly substantial fee at the time, plus throwing Nani in, who then went on to have a late career flourish.

He had a spell of about 6-8 quality games at centre back pre cruciate, but in truth has been utterly dreadful at left back, and purely average at centre back - in a period we've been utterly mediocre there anyway.

Nani was 27 when he left us too wasn't he? Still had a good few years left in him and could have been useful considering the complete lack of quality in attack we had on the wings. Can't have been worse than Rojo's impact surely.

What are you even talking about? No way he's on 400k a week.

We do have to remember Nani had been a bit average for at least a season, and injured. So we can't remember him for his peak seasons that were earlier.

But he played very well for Portugal in one of the Euro tournaments, and he definitely had something to offer, when you look at the garb we've had since!
