Where will City or Liverpool be in two years please?

Specifics if you don’t mind...
Liverpool have shown all it takes is a couple of years for a club to completely turn around their performances with the right management set up. You seem to still think that playing for United is not a massive pull, especially for a young English player. I am not sure which all clubs are vying for his signature but United will definitely be at the top of the pile when it comes to his preferences. Liverpool and City will also be very enticing opportunities but you make it out like a kid of 16 years age choosing to come to United should be seen as some "boon", which is ridiculous to say the least.
OK, I'm done.

I don't know if you're both being purposely obtuse or not, but going round in circles is not my thing.

What's with our bids and add ons? Can't we just afford people outright these days?
Oh come on. Have you been living under a rock for the last 5 years? This is how transfers get done, it’s not all ‘useless club’, ‘clueless Es’.

Most certainly will be a bidding war for him in the summer. Dortmund might get in and nab him first. Would be a statement of intent if we can get him.

If it’s between us and Dortmund I’m not confident of us getting him especially with the way Sancho has come on.
It will be a bidding war for certain though. We can offer Brum more.

Growth and performance from now until the end of the season could well play a hand in his valuation by the summer.

That £20m-£30m mightn't cut it by then if he has a storming few months.

I really hope Dortmund don't get this lad as well. Sick of them hoovering up all the mega talents.
It makes the most sense for young players. Get further developed at Dortmund then get a massive contract elsewhere in a couple years time.

I'd say buy him in the summer and use him. Our midfield is not great and a 17 year old wonderkid with Championship experience can fit in as a squad player

Don't even have to wait till the summer, they can reach an agreement now and register him when the window opens. He's not immediately required like Bruno or Ighalo.

He'll be loaned back, 100% Birmingham will insist on him staying for next season.

I also think Mejbri will probably force his way into Oles thinking next season too, hopefully goes on pre season tour and continues to progress because he looks brilliant, can see why we tried so hard to bring him in.

I don't like seeing clubs dictating us what we do with our own players and I am certainly uncomfortable allowing a 25m youth player to be loaned to a club whose got zero motivation to develop him further.

Well he isn’t our player. He’s theirs, and will have conditions, not solely financial, on them agreeing to make him ours.

Yeah but 25m is quite alot of money to turn down especially for a 17 year old playing in the Championship.

If we are desperate to get it done, I hope we pay a few million more and wrap it up right now..
Wait till the summer and Woody will find a way to feck it up... probably.

It'll be as simple as if he doesn't go back on loan they won't sell him to us.

As for development, he's already a regular on the team sheet. That's not going to stop just because he's on loan.

Duncan Castles commenting on United's interest in Bellingham last Thursday basically restated what he had said previously that United came to an agreement with Birmingham (25m with a 18 month loan back). The stumbling block is that the player and his dad are more concerned with his longterm development, and passed on the deal for now. It makes sense that he wants to continue to play first team football, even after 18 months there is not guarantee he would be starting for United. Castles also said that the player was advised by some agents to turn down Birmingham's pro contract offer when he turns 17 so he can get a bigger financial deal for himself from another club -which upset him because he is very loyal to Birmingham. They sound like sensible people, they are not just thinking about money, but how can he maximize his development as a player.

Im convinced we are the only club that this happens to in the press. Everyone else is reported as bidding 25 million for a player, we are reported as bidding 5million plus 5 individual add ons of 5 million each despite that being how most transfers are done.

They get them because they actually play them. As great as it sounds for a young player who is considered a top talent to sign for a top club, it's pretty pointless for their career long term. I look at someone like Patrick Roberts who went to City at around 18. It's just been loan after loan. He could have just stayed at Fulham and actually played.

Tell that to Alexander Isak.

The one thing I don't think the "long term plan", "show patience" brigade seems to really appreciate is how difficult it will be for United to convince anyone that this is the club to come to currently. Players will look at United this season with a 36% Premier League win ratio and find it really difficult to choose us if they have other options.

I can't remember why I joined this war.

That's the thing Dortmund has mostly going for them, that a lot of their young players get playing time and manage to get a mega deal after a couple of years with them. I think the league is also pretty good for most young players to take the next step, the atmosphere is great in most stadiums and the competitive level is not quite as high as it is in the PL so a good place to gain some game practice for young players. As much as I wanted Haaland to join us, if I was the player I'm not sure I would have decided differently, Dortmund is obviously a pretty good place to take that intermediate step in your career.

Absolutely, it's a brilliant intermediate step. Even as a United fan I'd have 100% taken the decision Haaland did. Maybe if United were at the top and it felt like this might be my only chance I'd go for it.

You think a 16 year old kid won’t be tempted to come despite seeing the likes of Greenwood, McTominay, Brandon Williams and James (and other yougsters) being given a first team spot infront of 80k people every week, in the Premier League, with a credible chance of trophies in the future? We are the team to join if you fancy yourself as a teenage sensation, wanting to play in the Premier League. Chelsea’s experiment is over and can now sign players again, Liverpool City and Spurs can’t really offer it. Arsenal perhaps.
