This lad has done a great job - I remember people laughing at Wolves fans in this forum when they were predicting that they would finish ahead of us sometime in the next 5 years. Might happen sooner than 5 years lads.

What’s everyone expecting tomorrow?

an ass whooping. expecting them to bully us off the ball and get away with a lot of physical challenges like the last couple times we played them.

Somehow managed to never really hear him speak until a couple of post-match interviews over Christmas/New Year. Thought he came across really well. Communication is obviously a part of coaching/management to get your thoughts across to your players I'd wager that's a big strength of his.

He created a very cohesive, well drilled team. Their recruitment has been spot on. I like watching them. Actually id rather watch them every weekend than us.
At least there is a structure you can identify.

With us, I have no idea from one match to the next

I would rate this guy very very highly when comparing with all other top managers. Came to the Wolves May 2016, got them promotion and not only that turned them into a team that is in the PL to stay. Wolves have quality throughout the team, and they could have easily beaten us the other night. Sitting right now 7th in the PL. I certainly estimate them as a team just outside top 4. He's transformed the whole set up. Great achievement and a top man too!

The Sheffield United manager has done a far more impressive job with fewer resources.

Wolves had a premiership squad in the championship.. them being top half shouldnt be a huge surprise..
That said, he is doing a good job.. But its not exactly a case of a scrappy championship side getting promoted and establishing themselves as a top half team.

That maybe true but let's wait until the end of the season and see where Sheffield utd end up. Or even next season for that matter. What Nuno Espirito Santo has achieved is that he's built a team that's proved themselves good enough to park themselves just outside top 4 and they're in the PL for the long haul! Not so sure that will be the case with Sheffield utd!

I'd contest that. They're like 7th in net spend over the past 5 years of the 20 PL teams and are backed by companies linked to the Chinese government. They have one of the most powerful agents in world football using the club as a player farm and the still play defensive football. They're only about where they should be.

I was building my positive comments on the guy based on what he's achieved on the pitch and the players he's aquired. If we're to bring the wealth of the owners into the equation then of course he's had the resources to be able to change things. But isn't that the case with most successful managers? Let's say he's played a big part in transforming the football club in a relitavely short period of time. Money is a big part of it of course but you need someone in the driving seat to turn that into sucess on the field.

He's a modern day Mourinho in terms of honest defensive shape, 3 CBs with 2 CMs who retain possession well but operate from deep, and is very well liked by his fans and media.

They have a talented squad, more than people will give them credit for, but they are difficult to beat rather than a threat to beat you. Drawn 10 matches thus far, equal with Arsenal.

It will be interesting how the squad develops and improves or will they stagnate.

It's some people won't rate you as a manager until you turn water into wine. Performing at expected levels given a certain level of resources is something to be applauded, not snubbed.

Funnily enough, I remember this too. Counting the days!!

Whether this actually happens will revolve very much around whether we manage to keep Nuno and whether you choose to keep Ole.

Asked if he was bothered by our tactical fouls, he said "we did also". Refreshing honesty there. He's a charismatic individual.

He is a good manager, but Wolves can often be so bloody boring to watch.
Sometimes though they can raise their game, but it has mainly been against City this season.

Although they have got amazing results under him. So will be interesting to see what they do in europa league.

It doesn’t say a lot for Nuno that you haven’t overhauled us yet despite us having one of the worst managers in the league.

It must also be disappointing that Leicester have streaked way ahead of you while even Sheff U are ahead.

Nuno and Wolves are both very overrated

Counter attacking.

The underdog fits him.

Would be found out at a bigger team when the onus is on him to attack and win.He should ask Ole.

Not really. In fact the last thing I am is disappointed in what Nuno has done for my club. The man is God in the eyes of most Wolves fans.

I don’t really care what other clubs do. We will just carry on going about our business regardless.

We are quite fortunate in that we don’t have the same ‘table-pressure’ as clubs like United and it doesn’t really matter where we are in the league, as long as we keep performing well and improving. That’s the right way around for me, as if you concentrate on the basics rather than short-term wins, the table will sort itself out in the long run.

We’ve played you twice, we’ve played City and Liverpool twice. Spurs away is probably the most difficult fixture we have left on paper and we won there last year. I’m quietly confident for the remainder of the season.

As for United fans basing their opinion of Wolves solely on the games between the 2 sides, that’d be like Wolves basing their entire opinion of United on the same games! The games we’ve played have been shocking. Both sides have performed nowhere near the best of their ability. We’ve basically completely cancelled each other out.

Nuno is not a negative manager, he’s a counter-attacking manager and in most games, this side entertains me more than almost any other Wolves side I’ve seen. Just against United, Nuno has probably been wary of leaving space in behind for your counter, so we’ve generally been deeper than other games.

Not this season. We lost against Pep last season too with Ole if you want to add those games.
Sorry, you’re right. Only the same PPG and goal difference as Pep (assuming league points as some were cup games). Nuno is a crap manager and you should never go for him. He’d definitely do a worse job than Ole.

Some say no manager can do a better job than Ole so you are probably right. Ole is performing at absolute peak level.

Nuno is hardly an unknown, he has managed Porto and Valencia already so has experience of managing clubs with expectation to win trophies and make CL which helps as Wolves desire that but don't demand it just yet.

Not sure what the vibe was on his season at Porto, sure the guys on here can fill more info but I thought he was unlucky to get sacked at Valencia considering he got them into CL and they were 4th or 5th when he was sacked and then they had that year of chaos with Neville and Prandelli trying to get them relegated. Loads of politics around the club at the time.

Think Wolves is a good fit for him at this point in his managerial career.

There's nothing typical about winning the Championship in your first with Wolves season straight to a EL finish and then maintaining that consistency into the 2nd season in the PL.

Can we not appreciate him without having to state we wouldn’t want him at United? That’s my view on it anyway. Wolves are lucky to have him IMV.

His job at Valencia was good enough to almost make him manager of the year. Unfortunately the squad was too short, and the season start with pre-season long travels + qualifiying rounds for Champs League took the toll and the squad had a tough time handling the fitness and results didn't showed up like the previous season, hence got sacked. I think he learnt from that experience, as this season his team seems to be physically ready even after starting the season so soon.

At Porto he heritaged a complicated situation: Porto had spent tons of cash in players under Lopetegui and failed to deliver the title. His Porto's squad lacked depth and if Tiquinho Soares had arrived early in the season I think he could had won the title, as they lost most of the points on draws where they couldn't convert their chances (happily for us).

And at Porto he could not deploy his 3 at the back system, because when you sign for Porto you don't have 100% freedom taking decisions in squad engineering.

I think his best signature as Wolves manager is on how to build players: he basically picked outcasts and turned them into proper players. Boly, Jota, Neves, etc etc they were just promising players here at Portugal that still didn't had what it takes to be a top player.

Jota disappointed so much that Porto didn't even considered activating the buying clause after his loan spell. Boly did a very good half-season at Braga before signing for Porto and couldn't even get into the bench. Neves was the 3rd picking choice and he usually played a more advanced role, because no manager trusted him as an anchor midfielder.

Impressive work with Wolves
- clearly good player recruitment, management at that level and effective football system, annoying to play against.

I do question for how long though.

Wish he could make his team more interesting i.e. fun to watch tbh.

He has clearly been helped a little bit by the relationship that Wolves has with the Portugese contingencies but on the other hand he won the Championship title in his first season at the club, came 7th the next season after promotion and unlike other clubs who pull off that kind of form, he's managed to keep it up so far in regards to their consistency. 8th in the table and the league is much more open this year so the possibility of putting in a run of form is there too.

He improves players too. The progress of Traore and Jiminez has been exceptional underneath him. Traore especially looked a bit lost at Villa/Middlesborough. Even last season at Wolves he looked a bit meh, but Nuno stuck by him and it's worked. Jota too is a quality little player. Clearly a great man manager as they've came behind from losing positions/drawing to win a bit too much this season and he needs to improve the tactical side of his game. He only really has a Plan A.

His plan b came into play against Southampton when he tweaked the formation to play 1 behind the two strikers and turned the game around, did similar against man city
He comes across as stubborn but he's not afraid to try different permutations when plan a isn't working.
He needs to work on breaking defensive teams down but all in all he's doing an outstanding job.

I mean more consistently and from the offset. In most games it seems to be the same tactical/starting line-up from the get go and it's only during the game it might change a bit. I agree that he's doing very well and his knack of turning games around is brilliant but I also believe that it isn't something that is sustainable long term. In the long term he's going to have to figure out how to ensure that his side starts games a bit quicker whether that is changing the tactics sometimes or otherwise. Kudos to him and you lot though. Great team and I'm envious of a bunch of your lads.

The vast majority of posters have literally only seen them play against us if they think Nuno is a "mini Mourinho" or a defensive manager. He's an excellent manager and there are probably 15/16 clubs in the Premier League that would be lucky to have him - including us.

Good manager but I would want us stay away from him because of his boring football. He makes Jose's football look attractive.
