If he can help City to shut Liverpool up I'm all for it, obviously I would prefer us to shut them up but that sadly isn't likely at this moment in time.

Even if he were to leave, you don't believe for a second he is going to end up at City, do you?

If he were to quit, he'd go back to Argentina to Newells. He will never go to another European club.

Also this is just a power play against the board who fecked up massively and is pairing him with a 17 year old who needs mom's permission to play beyond 10 PM.

He won’t leave. Abidal will apologise or resign. Messi will get a bumper new contract.

Will be devastating for Barca. I know historically, Barca is not messi but it has been like that for some time now though.

They will suffer more than Real (after selling CR7)

PSG or City, I guess.
Or If Saudis take over :)

If Ole and Woodward can land this I might potentially change my view about them. Or well I would still sack them, but at least they would have done something good.
0 reasons why he would join us though.

New contract soon. Maybe £2m a week this time.

what better platform to cap off his career than knocking liverpool off their perch at United.

We have to make the champions league and pay him 500 000 a week.

I want this guy at United so bad I may even embrace MBS buying United. I probably will take this back in the morning.

Edit: No still no MBS.

You need to think this through. Messi going to City would do unspeakable things for them and go a long way to melting the plastic off their club. Having the greatest ever player playing for them at something like his peak is an honour they don’t deserve. By the time he’s done with them, they could be spoken about similarly to us.

New contract time.

He’s certainly not going to join the EPL at 32 and risk not gelling with a new team in a new league and open up comparisons with Ronaldo who has smashed it in 3 leagues now, making the move to his latest league 18 months older than Messi would be at this move.

It’s his final legacy he’s got to think about. He just wants to get the changes he’s after at board level.

I'd have so much respect for him if he had the courage to leave Barca and join the most fast paced league in the world at 32.

Never going to happen though.

Abidal is Barcelona's Director of Football?

I mean, wow.

That fascination seems to be popular on here too. Many want to give the job to unqualified ex-players like Evra, Fletcher etc. because 'they know the club'.

Yeah... this isn't happening.

Messi loves Barca too much and he's too important to them. Abidal will gone way before that even gets close.

he will never leave Barca, but I'd like to see him at Inter for obvious reasons. that league badly needs proper rivalry.

Did Scholes and Giggs lack courage not leaving United?

Also Zidane, Ronaldinho, R9 & Kaka for never playing in the “most past faced league” ?

He makes English teams look like average ones in CL, don't think it will be a problem for him to smash PL clubs.

Adapting to England after spending all his life in Barcelona, now that's a challenge.

Adapting to England would not be an issue but if he came to United, I bet we ruin him in 6 months.

Would be cool to see Messi and Ronaldo playing together at Juventus. Messi as the playmaker and Ronaldo as the poacher.

Abidal will probably either apologise or be looking for a new job.
100% this

Messi is Barca and Barca is Messi until he retires. Anybody even speculating that he leaves is just putting themselves in silly position

any little dispute and the papers start talking about Messi leaving. why? transfer rumours and Messi = £££s. don't be fooled by this clear and utterly obvious tabloid BS. he's not going anywhere, close this thread please.

I didn’t say he lacked courage if he didn’t leave, there are plenty of reasons for why he’d choose to stay. Just said that it would be a very courageous move to leave, especially to England at 32.

Think people have looked into this a bit much. I doubt he called out Abidal for any other reason than to call out abidal.

Don't think so, if they did Barca would be idiots.
Fully expect him to sign a 3 to 4 year contract to finish his time off at Barca. He's not going anywhere.
