I don't think City will pay the money for Grealish considering who they already have. He'd end up being second fiddle to KDB, B.Silva etc.

Pogba out and Grealish in would actually be great business for us. Get a younger hungrier talent in and get an over rated show pony out who only cares about himself.

Need a top striker and a top attacking fullback still for me. We'll never kick on with defensive fullbacks.

Agreed, I think if we sell Pogba for £125m+, that'll hopefully allow us to rebuild properly this summer. I'd bring in Soumare alongside Grealish, with Soumare deeper and Grealish further forward. Buying 2 midfielders will also allow us to get rid of relatively average/under performing players like Pereira and/or Lingard if need be.

Completely agree on the striker and attacking full backs but I'd also add a top RW as a priority signing. Someone like Sancho or Ziyech will add much needed creativity from out wide.

Why is everyone suggesting we play Grealish in centre mid? He's played 6 games there all season out of 23, largely to suit the team.

The guy is class going forward in and around the box, he's a winger/10 if there ever was one.

And the people complaining that we can't play Grealish and Bruno together? Not even sure what your smoking. More bizarro nonsense on the cafe.

This deal for Grealish should be brokered now so it’s all in place to be announced in the summer......

McGinn - Celtic missed a scoop there was always destined to play at a higher level, they should have paid the fee before a big money movedown south

You’ve just described one type of defensive midfielder. I don’t think many people are asking for that. You wouldn’t say that Carrick or Busquets, for example, are defensive midfielders? Someone who can shield the defence, intercept the ball and pass it through the lines is more what we’d need. It’s still a defensive midfielder though.
carrick was a defensive midfielder

Not saying that the noob is clueless but it really rankles me when noobs start criticizing the Caf- if they don’t like it then they can jog on
there’s some really good/knowledgeable posters on here but jeez... I’ll leave that there. We all have our moments, I suppose.

I wouldn't mind but i doubt we would, we were interested in McGinn as well before he got injured. I think he would be a better option that McTominay.
.
Haven't seen much of him but hope we go for Grealish.

I would love to have him. Pogba is leaving and he would be a nice addition to a squad deeply lacking creativity.

Grealish is brilliant but we wont go after him, just bought Bruno. Makes no sense to go after a #10 and then play him as a CM. RW should be priority numero uno this window. We have ignored that position for 5+ years now.

McGinn has a similar profile to Bruno. We don't need the former now that we've got the latter.

Grealish is midfielder playing in a forward position because he's the most talented player in his team. His future (and indeed his past) is obviously much deeper than that.

A Bruno/Grealish AM pairing is hardworking and hard-pressing enough to work ahead of a dedicated holding player*. They'll put in a shift, but they won't be able track runners consistently throughout a match. For that, we need somebody who has eyes in the back of his head. McTominay and Fred aren't in that mould. Garner is, but he's a couple of seasons away from consideration.

A technically gifted 'third CB'-type like Phillips in addition to Grealish would be fantastic.

*Notice that I said holding player (ie. Busquets who plugs up gaps behind him) as opposed to defensive midfielder (ie. Kante who closes down the ball in front of him).

If I remember right, he plays further forward than midfield, so basically the position Bruno will play for us. It'd make more sense for us to go for Grealish then a defensive CM like Soumare, Zakaria, Partey or Phillips.

I do think we'll get him, but itll be interesting to see how it pans out. Guess the way we use Bruno and Pogba together will say a lot about future plans?

When I look at our current midfielders, I see Bruno Fernandes obviously as a player we see as a starter long term, and I see McTominay the same way (and the club does as well). Mctominay is a box to box, Bruno is a #10. What would give us the perfect balance to those 2 is having a Carrick behind them. Passing range, creativity, intelligence but someone to dictate games with their passing and give the ball to the attackers. That's what we need IMO. I just dont think itd work having McTominay as the defensive mid behind Bruno and Grealish, there would be no positional discipline or control there. And it's not like we have Pep as manager who can make a bunch of attacking mids work while player together in deeper positions. Regardless, one way or another, our side needs a Carrick type, a deep lying playmaker who will organize the midfield and spread the ball around. That could give us this as options:

Rashford Martial
Bruno
Grealish Mctominay
*Carrick

Martial
Rashford Grealish Bruno
Mctominay *Carrick

Rashford Martial Greenwood/James
Grealish Bruno
*Carrick

He'd be a very good signing and I could see all the above working, but hes kind of like a cherry on top piece rather than the key part of the foundation to make it click, which is what the holding mid would be. That's imperative to get right. Not some high energy ball winning player who isnt much of an intelligent passer. A busquets, a Carrick, a Keane (dream scenario), Fernandinho, Fabinho, Etc.

Trying to buy Grealish. Being linked with Rice. We used to have Michael Keane. It's like we've based our squad building on which players have dicked over Ireland.

I guess we're just as bad as each other then

but yeah Grealish isn't a centre mid and he's not that similar to Bruno so I stand by my point.
I’m not disagreeing with your point, though I can see why people would want him to carry the ball from deeper but I’d prefer him further forward to cause more damage.

Your post rankled me by your throw away comment at the end as anti-Caf rhetoric. To hear this from a noob is.. irking me

Maybe I’m just in a bad mood

Agree with this apart from the McTominay bit. I think he would be perfect sitting in there with Bruno and Grealish.

I would like to see us sign Grealish, but would prefer Maddison if given the option (although his new deal appears to rule that out)

He could play as left inside forward or as LW with a midfield of McTom, Fred and Bruno.
