Cannot believe a retread manager from the Dippers is on there as if that would ever happen but they don't even have Nuno listed. I know Poch is the obvious name and Nagelsman is sexy now that Klopp has made German managers the flavor of the month but what Nuno has done at Wolves in the last 3 years is seriously impressive. He is tactically astute, develops his players, demands high standards and is passionate about his work. I wouldn't look at anyone else unless he gave me a firm no.
Would you have mentioned Nuno if he was doing the same in Germany? Let's be honest here, the reason you mention him is due to him managing in the EPL.

We should think outside the box and make a decision rather than use the same pigeon-holed approach that got us in the current mess. Nagelsmann is potentially a far better coach than Nuno and has a much higher ceiling imo. And if there's a choice between the two then it's a easy decision to go for Nagelsmann and it has nothing to do with Klopp.

Pocb seems too simple, too safe....think United should really take a look around instead of just going for the biggest name available.
He fits the profile, builds teams, promotes youth, improves players and can get the best out of a group, in addition to being able to work on a budget.

We really need a big name, someone who can work the media, as they’re going to be all over with the pressure and focus the second whoever it is gets the job. It’s going to be horrendous for the new boss. Fans after the owners and the media in love with liverpool desperate for a United revival not to happen.

Nagelsmann is a dream but like Kloop doubt that he is willing to join Man Utd. After he win the Bundesliga this season many big club will be going after him.

For us, realistically Poch is a very good choice. He can rebuild with limited budget and play relatively attractive modern football.

At least, we will not be bored to death with Ole counter attacking football, excuses that need 6 transfer windows, blame players not good enough to beat Norwich and etc.

I need nagglesmann at the club because he can build his tactics depending on the players he has here. He is so damn flexible.

Pochettino is good but has his preferences & tactics that he doesn't change that will turn this in to just another rebuild.

Nagelsmann 352 is literally insane playing with a target man who brings a wider striker in to finish off chances - sounds familiar?

Nagglesmann is the key to the 352 because he defends with a 6-2-2 & attacks with a 2-3-5.

He will also play 442 as well so will change his tactics.

With the press speculating that our shortlist is Pochettino, Southgate, and Nagelsmann I'd love it if we signed Nagelsmann and backed him with the rebuild and not force our coaches on him.

Personally I don't want Pochettino or Southgate at United but If not Nagelsmann, try Marcelo Gallardo or Erik ten Hag.

But with Mr. Ed in charge, it'll be Pochettino or Southgate.

I hate the attitude of this fanbase sometimes, we deserve everything we get. Nagelsmann is "sexy" because he's an incredible manager despite his relative inexperience and is making waves everywhere he's gone, not because one of the world's best managers just happens to be German and has made all German managers "flavours of the month" now. No doubt you turned your nose up at Klopp the first time declaring him a hipster manager as well. Nagelsmann is and will be 10x the manager Nuno is I'm sorry to say and will be at one of the biggest clubs in the world before long, but of course we're too good for such a hipster manager, aren't we?

Good post.

Nagelsmann is a very adaptive coach and the way he implements his system to adapt to the opposition is quite simply genius. But what I really like about him is that, what ever system he plays or against whomever the opposition, the objective is to take the game to the opposition.

Yeah and as you say he takes the game to the opposition by adapting his tactics and as simple as it sounds he does that by looking at the players he has and noticing their strengths and weaknesses.

I'd really like a manager here who has a collection of players who he rotates due to tactics & the opposition we play.

I think it would be a great way of building up a squad again in comparison to building just a first team fit for Pochettino.

I don't want to dismiss pochettino too much because he maybe the only option but I can see him getting rid of some of our 'decent' players due to them not fitting in with his tactics rather than having a manager who has tactics like Nagelsmann adapting towards the players available, his own favourites and his opposition.

If we as a club look at the next appointment from a long-term perspective to get us back on track, then Nagelsmann is the clear standout candidate imo. Alot of things would align regard the structure of the football side if he was appointed too. I'm just happy to read that there's people on the board at the club who value the potential of Nagelsmann and are keeping a close eye on his career.

It's very doubtful that Nagelsmann will join Man Utd. Ed will sell him Adult Disneyland dream bullshit again.

Ed has no plan or vision. All the top managers can't take him seriously.

I would have loved to have Klopp here and at the time of his appointment I was afraid he would do exactly what he has done at Liverpool. To clarify, I think Nagelsmann would be a very good coach and have no issues with the idea of hiring him I just cannot believe that some of the names on that list are even in the running and yet Nuno is not even mentioned. I don't watch too many Bundesliga games so I am really only going on other peoples opinions when it comes to German managers but I watch an insane amount of Premier League games and so I am happy to stand by my opinion that Nuno would be an excellent hire, doesn't mean someone else wouldn't be better.

Hypothetically, pretending that Woodward is out of the picture, what are the major obstacles to Nagelsman joining?

I get the usual German/wants to manage Bayern stuff.

Our fastest way out of this is now him/him-Rangnick.

We really need to get an attacking coach. We have wasted 6-7 years of our life watching Moyes, LVG, Jose and Ole boring football weekly.

Honestly all I've wanted over the past 6 years is for us to play quickly, pass and move, be creative. Why do we play like 00s Bolton?

Most seem to want Pochettino if Solskjaer is axed. Would that change if Julian Nagglesman was to win the Bundesliga and make the last 8 of the Champions League?

The question is would Nagelsman move that early after joining Leipzig? It's not that common for a manager to sign a four year contract and leave after one year.

I think Ole is an "attacking" coach. So is the former youth guy McKenna. They just don't seem to be good at it, at PL level at any rate.

Perhaps one factor to consider is how much the coach emphasises - and trains - other things like positional play. I think Ole wants our team to attack, but in a largely freestyle manner that doesn't work against the organised tactics employed by other teams these days. (In fact that sounds reminiscent of Mourinho's attacking "plans".)

I want Nagelsmann even if he doesn't win the Buli and if not i'm hoping for Marco Rose.

The previous failings of our past and current managers have given me mild ptsd that I feel any manager we get right now is high risk. The best thing to do to lower the risk is to honestly go out and get the 'perfect manager' or close to at least because there is no perfect manager just a less risky one. By this I mean what are the criterias we're looking for in a new manager.

I'm sure I'm speaking for the Caf when I say the perfect manager or close enough at least is the one that plays attractive attacking football, promotes youth/can work with youth, knows how to carry out a rebuild and is a serial winner. I think a manager that has some experience in carrying trophies is important and should not be overlooked. While this was the main criteria for appointing LVG and Mourinho they didn't meet the criterias that I've mentioned except LVG that uses youth. But even though these two didn't tick all the boxes they've been our best managers since Ferguson left and that's because of the trophies they won for us regardless of how shit out football was at that time. That's why they are serial winners. It's their experience of winning trophies that has made them capable of winning more trophies even with bad football.

Add this serial winner characteristic to a manager that promotes youth, coaches attacking football and knows how to carry a rebuild and I would say that our future is in the right hands.

Is there any manager out there that ticks all these boxes.

Marco Rose, Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Adi Hutter, Ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers and Marcelo Gallardo etc should be some of the options we consider due to their profile and style of play.

I'm hoping we stay away from the likes of Allegri, Simeone and Nuno due to their negative mindset/tactics. I don't want to see more mind numbingly shite football for the next few years.

Yeah and I also get very bored of people beating Pochettino with the hasn't won anything stick constantly. Maybe if he had a bigger budget at Spurs they might have got over the line and won a trophy.

Any of the guys with an attacking philosophy mentioned should be considered by the club.

My biggest worry is that some of the names will be off the table by the time we realise Ole isn't the right guy.

We simply have to be in regular contact with the reps of these guys otherwise it's just negligent.

I think it would be very tough to attract talented managers like Ten Haag & Nagelsmann to the club with Woody there.

My gut feeling is that the clown will end up selling us as a Mickey Mouse organisation like he famously did with Klopp and they will rightly run a mile.

He simply has to be miles away from the football side of things in order to get the right next manager. There has to be some progress on appointing a DOF.

If only Poch had won the last CL, he would have been regarded as a great coach by most of people.
And this would have prevented the Liverpool dominance as their confidence would have been badly hurt.
For me Poch did a fantastic job with the squad he had at Tottenham and getting them to CL finals after beating city is terrific.

Nagelsmann, Marco Rose would not fancy to come to United as they have signed to new clubs recently.
Apart from these two Tuchel and Poch are the two candidates I would like to have at OT.

I think most ManUtd fans would take Nagglesmann but I don't think he will leave Leipzig after just one season, especially if he wins Bundesliga.

Agreed. People are afraid of "missing out" on Poch, but personally i am much more concerned about missing out on this guy. He will no doubt be at a big club in a couple of years and we have to make sure its us

I prefer Nagelsmann's style over Poch, but us just going for the latter seems very obvious doesn't it. We don't seem like a club who thinks outside the box.

Excellent list and I'm glad you included Rodgers; very underrated in my opinion. If people don't want him here because he coached the dippers, then fair enough, I'm not going to argue against that. But if you are making up a top 5 list based on ability and possible availability (because let's face it, Pep and Klopp are never coming here) Brendan should be on that list in my opinion. Love his style of play.

I'd be all in on Poch if I were Ed/the Glazers. He ticks off all the boxes and has Prem experience to boot. SAF would fancy him as well as it's been reported that they've been close over the years and Poch has said in the press that he considers him to be a friend and mentor when he was recovering from surgery a while back.

Definitely interested in seeing him at a club that isn't afraid to spend but I still feel that we would need to have a reshuffling of whoever is in charge of recruitment for him, or ANY manager bar SAF, to truly succeed.

Would hate to let him join another club in the league, since he prefers to stay in England at the moment, while we have the need

I remember Sir Alex speaking about Pochettino in surprisingly glowing terms when Soton played Utd at OT and Utd somehow won back in 2013.

And then those two coming out of restaurant (Poch‘s assistant there too) about three years ago.

And then more recently the press stories of how Ed is a fan.

The fact that he is making media noise on these shores is a telling sign.

If Ole finishes in top 4 and /or win Europa Cup he deserves to continue, otherwise it will be a calamity to let Pochettino go like that.

Even if he achieves the unthinkable and does what you say, a sane club would still move him on because its the best he's going to do it, and it would give the next man to come in a brilliant platform.

Obviously, if Ole achieves either of those things he will be staying, but he won't.
