Well thats crud then. Because I can’t think of a single manager who doesn't sign a load of players and change it up when they take over at a club.
How many players did Sarri sign last Summer?

There are literally tonnes of examples of managers coming in and making 2-3 tweaks, and whoever is manager in Summer 2020 (including Ole), they’ll need to do that.

Ole out here. I'm past getting convinced by a set amount of wins in a row or runs in cups etc.

The only way he can prove his managerial acumen to me is to play good cohesive football with the team at his disposal. It seems as if he feels that the only way to prove that you're a good manager is to get good players and then win games with them, which is false. A good manager makes players play good football regardless of quality, which then allows him to get a chance at a bigger club with more resources to allow for signing better players. What people are often forgetting about Poch (for example, he's not necessarily my first pick) is that he didn't just turn up at Spurs. He did it at Southampton and made them play good football before getting the chance at Spurs.

Problem is that in order to get good players you have to be a good team, and we're never going to be a good team if the manager doesn't have an idea of how he wants to play beyond telling his starting XI to go out there and do whatever suits their playing style. A manager with an idea of how he wants to play wouldn't have different players performing completely differently in the same role/spot in the team.

A few examples: 1) When Matic came in to the side, there was a very obvious ambition from him to turn forward with the ball and pass it between the lines. If he likes that, why hasn't he told other CDMs to do the same? If he dislikes that, why does he bring Matic into the side and why doesn't he tell him to cut it out? 2) When Brandon Williams is playing LB we see him running into the opponents' box multiple times, getting himself into great scoring positions. If he likes that, why doesn't he tell Luke Shaw to do the same? If he doesn't like that, why does he keep picking him and why doesn't he tell him to cut it out?

The fact that the players' personalities and styles dictate the way we play to the extent it does tells me that Ole's only chance of success is to stay here long enough to get quality players in who can perform well for him without any real tactical input. We can all shout about getting Pogba back etc, but by the time we get a squad full of players on his level (under Ole) Pogba will have not only left, but probably retired from football.

He'd want new fullbacks for starters. He's also not a manager who would ever win us anything in my opinion, poor record against top teams. You’re not going to win cups and league titles if you cant beat the best, either by just being a lot better or by tactics
But you don't want all the managers with a big trophy haul here either do you?

I'm sorry, but I find it comical to believe that we're on trajectory to win big things with Ole unless he gets unlimited transfer budget and Pep and Klopp feck off.

4, 5 if you include Pulisic who was signed looking forward. Bear in mind that he was signed to replace Conte who didnt really need replacing anyway.

How did Sarri do anyway, that was a knee jerk reaction, big manager from abroad, meant to play ‘Sarri Ball’ that was going to be the be all and end all and kryptonite of the high press.

Would he? I think he’d really enjoy working with Williams and Dalot especially.
I think maltesers are nice, all conjecture at the end of the day. You are trying to state what might be inside the head of a manager who isn’t our manager, some point in the future, as if its facts. Stupidity

We just need the right man. It might be a big name, it might not. It might be Ole it might not. It might be the bloke from Red Bull, Nagelsmann who looks a great coach to me but hasn't won anything yet.

Problem is, too many are obsessed with a manager they think should be manager and would turn everything into a land of unicorns and rainbows and just wont accept any other logic, opinions or reasoning. Like the Harry Potter bloke and his beloved Pochettino. I try to support the manager we have and to be honest i think we are going In the right direction long term at the moment, in terms of recruitment etc. I think we are doing in the acceptable range on the pitch considering squad and competition at this time. It wasnt our god given tight to finish top 2 every season and never will be.

“I think” isn’t stating facts.

And you started off this debate saying any new manager would want to rip it all up and start again. So you yourself are claiming you know not just what Poch would do, but what any new manager would do.

“Stupidity” you say?

He would help his case if he got competent coaches who could improve the tactics and gameplay on the training ground. He could also stand on the touchline baracking cajoling motivating the players instead of sitting in the dugout 9/10 of the game

Well you are saying what players at utd poch would like? I was merely pointing out that no manager i ever recall has taken over a team and made no sigings. You then pointed to Sarri as evidence, in which i pointed out that he signed 4/5 players? So yes, you are stupid, you are the owner of stupid right now

Yes, having replaced Conte at chelsea and subsequently being fired himself??
Should I ask the same question again? How many players did Sarri sign last summer?

You couldn’t think of a single example of a manager not coming into a team and ripping it up, signing a load of players. I gave you the most recent on that popped into my head.

And as I say, every manager, including Ole will want to sign 3-4 players this Summer.

His philosophy isn't counter attacking football. Looks more like he wants a possession based game to me. Being smart against the big teams and reverting to a counter attacking style doesn't mean that's the end goal.
I can only comment on what I see. I see counterattacking football as the main philosophy.

I vote for bringing random cafe user into command. It would be crap, but could be funny.
At least they might go for attacking football even if we can't defend.
Although sad for Lingard getting 0 minutes and kicked out as fast as possible ;).

@Regulus Arcturus Black and @Jezpeza Pack it in you two or the next warning will push you into a temp.
Kin ell man, after being called stupid and the owner of stupid, I asked if the poster was playing stupid or really that thick.

I then got called a moron and a pleb in two separate posts and responded with no insults, safe to say you don’t need to tell me to pack it in @Jippy

Nothing. He's been in football management for long enough (10+ years) for people to make a judgement on him , it's not like he's a rookie or something. He failed in Cardiff and he's failed here. It's weird to expect or think that he will suddenly transform into something he has never been after 10 years.

Not bothered with results. Don't expect achievements. I want to see a solid football base, a style, something that would allow me to think that with the right additions in the right positions, we can go places.
Same here. I don't need to see great results to know if Ole is doing well. If key injured players get on the pitch and if I see attractive football that I know will get results in the long run, I'll stay Ole in.

If injured players come back and I don't see improvement on the pitch, then I'll want him gone in May.

It's not as simple as that. You have managers who were about average before they had extraordinary seasons like Jardim or Ranieri, and you have managers who were great and then went on to go on downward path like Wenger and Klopp and Rodgers, although the latter two went back to being good when they got opportunity to work with better squads.

You know what would Klopp do with the squad of Andreas, Lingard, Lindelof, James, last year's Fred and Matić? feck all that's what.

That doesn't mean anything to Ole though, he might come good once he gets some better players yet he might stay underwhelming, but as someone already said, he overachieved this season with the players he had to start every game and almost no bench quality.

Yeah he got a warning for that. The below is an insult.

At Juve, last Summer for the 3rd time, are you playing stupid or really this thick?

Why should we get rid of "deadwood" then?

Give chance to players like Lingard, Darmian, - they can turn up like Messi and Maldini in 3-4 years time. That would make people change their mind, no?

If we gave every crap player or manager time we would sooner or later indeed end up in relegation zone.
My point is, there's always something a player or manager can do to change your opinion on them.

I think Lingard is not good enough for us and should be moved on, but if he suddenly started banging in goals and getting loads of assists, then my opinion would obviously change. Your opinion should change based on the subject's actions. It should be fluid, not fixed.

Therefore, saying that there's nothing Ole can do that will change your mind about wanting to get rid of him - is surely ridiculous, no?

Well Sarri didn't really need to "change" Juve, did he? He had and still has world class players.
My bad, didnt realize you where talking about his Chelsea.

If we win a cup and get into the champions league and start playing cohesive football that looks like it's been thought out and drilled into the players then I'd be ok with him. Need to see progress in results and style. We've been going sideways/backwards for a while now and he's done nothing to suggest he can move it forwards. Nothing against the man, he's one of my absolute favorite people ever associated with the sport but he's had enough time and we are disjointed and have no direction or consistency.

In short, he'd have to do a lot.

There's no need to rehash all the arguments, we've all read them a thousand times. What if he won the Europa League and came 4th would that change your mind?
No papers over cracks. He's had enough time to get things in the right direction. 4th and Europa League would be great, but it would still make sense to get an upgrade on him. And for me, there are no better person than either Poch or Nagelsman.

The amount of amateur mistakes he makes are negligible. The only way he can get us to win Europa League and get 4th is by going on run of form. With Ole, I always worry that we will come crashing back down eventually.

Been saying this since. You here people say "I want to see what he can do with a transfer window or with a fit squad". This is someone that has been coaching for 10 years and we're still waiting to see if he's good or not. Imagine a striker playing for 6 years and people are still waiting for Bruno and Pogba in midfield to judge whether he can score goals.

Why would you judge a man by what he might do rather than what he's done. The excuses Ole gets is just too much. I mean if you give Pochettino and Ole a squad filled with the best players who do you think will do better?

Why is that @fergieisold ?

If the rebuild is doing everything right, why couldn’t a new manager just continue it ?
Well for the first time since SAF we appear to have a little bit of direction in our rebuild. It has been hopeless until Ole has come in. I don't want to go back to hiring another manager who might want to change direction again.

Ending the season on around 70 points.

35 needed out of 39.

Shite, its easy to lose context for me - we would need to only drop 4pts from now until May to hit 70points. Jesus. In other words, we are probably going to finish the season on around 55pts aren't we?

I seem to recall that he had a pretty horrific away record against the other top 6 sides. Something like 1 win in 16. He got a lot of criticism for it at some point in his role there. Uniteds away record against the big six under Ole - PL 9 W 6 L 3. Maybe we could have joint managers. Poch takes home matches and Ole away.
