Many questions on the same two themes that I don't get.

1. City's statement - "Simply put, this is a case initiated by UEFA, prosecuted by UEFA and judged by UEFA." Why's that supposedly some kind of wrongdoing according to City? Their competition, their rules that you agreed to abide by, they enforce them if you break them no? I don't get it.

The Premier League has rules, if a player breaks them they are investigated and if appropriate punished. I have a job, there are things I'm expected to do and not do, if I go off the rails the organisation I work for will investigate and punish. If I join a tennis club and wear golf shoes on the grass court they may investigate me and suspend me or boot me out.

2. Who are CAS exactly/what gives them their power? I've just had a look on their site and they were set up in 1984 and a few other things. Are they just people who one day decided they were going to tell sports organisations what to do? Do sports sign up with them up with them or something, or can a sport ignore them?
For number 1 I understand city’s gripe. It would be like a police officer charging someone with something, prosecuting them and deciding the punishment, that’s why procurator fiscals and judges presided over things.

Cheeky bid for KDB in the summer?
I hope Abu Dhabi take their anger out on the want away players and threaten to slap them with costly legal action if they start throwing hissy fits. I'm looking at the 'just playing for the football, not the money' types like KdB, Aguero and specially Sterling.

How do you feel about this personally, does the punishment fit the crime?
Honestly yes, my issue is the way the way uefa have implemented it. They gladly cut a deal with City (shady as feck), I have no doubt they knew the full extent of our breaching. When Der Spiegel broke the truth Uefa had no choice but to backtrack and get on Cities back.

Did we deserve this punishment? Yup. The way Uefa have wormed around it is infuriating but I have a feeling that City will win with CAS. CAS have already validated Cities claims and I have a sneaky feeling we'll walk away from CAS the victors. This part released from City pretty much says what we are banking on.

"In December 2018, the UEFA Chief Investigator publicly previewed the outcome and sanction he intended to be delivered to Manchester City, before any investigation had even begun.
"The subsequent flawed and consistently leaked UEFA process he oversaw has meant that there was little doubt in the result that he would deliver. The Club has formally complained to the UEFA Disciplinary body, a complaint which was validated by a CAS ruling.

Basically UEFA trying to save face on the back of Der Spiegel jumped the gun and started giving case info out as it was ongoing (mostly to the New York times I believe) and even a verdict before it started.

The punishment fits the crime absolutely, if Uefa had the balls to deal with this in 2014 or City the balls to take them on it court, neither side would be in this mess. Either way no doubt we've being up to some horrible shit as a club and deserve to be punished though.

Pinch me am I dreaming? Surely this shit will be appealed and brought down to some paltry one year ban and a slap on the wrist.

fecking cheats though. Deserve it.

I hope pep fecks off too.

Nothing makes me happier to see that lot out of europe. Last chance saloon this year. Oh the pressure must be immense.

Its all falling apart now. I guess if we finished 5th that means we might get into the CL?

Man City fans have got to be the most insecure i have ever witnessed. They are more concerned with what other people say or think about them, than the actual issue at hand. Bluemoon forum is proper cringey.

They'll get a 1 year ban upon CAS appeal. Pep is in his last year - 18 months IMO. Cooking the books is essentially what they've done... shady as feck. "overstated their sponsorship income to meet FFP and meet rules regarding break even" ie. the owners put money in and made it look as if it came from a sponsor? No chance they walk away with entire ban overturned.

The Plastic club not playing by the rules...who could have suspected that???? It's remarkable how far City and PSG have been allowed to go. How does that affect City and their PL titles? Is it okay to cook the books to win the PL?

Devilish plan by City: get 5th this saison and play in Europa League. So they still have international cup and a chance of a trophy :)

I'd be giddy, but we don't look like even competing for fifth.
Theres 9 points between 5th and 15th. Behave with the negativity.

Side note im guessing the EPL are going rinse them with the same investigation?

How does it work for the premier league? I mean they’ve benefitted just as much in that regard, can the league open proceedings against them too?

José Narciso da Cunha Rodrigues was presiding the panel, he's a European court of Justice judge, very respected legal mind, he won't come to the CAS empty handed. City can be worried.

PSG inflated their revenues with a contract but a least it was in plain sight. The contract was re-assed (and ultimately almost abandonned since Accor is now our main sponsor), we were sanctionned and forced to find other revenues (which is a very good thing, thank you FPF for pushing us in that direction, we can now survive without Qatar money) and cooperated with UEFA in the process. City decided to do worst by creating shell companies to hide that, then prevented UEFA from properly investigating. Too bad for them, now the hammer falls.
Good posts in this thread, Oly.

Hopefully this opens the floodgates for a full on corruption investigation, and Juve style scandal :keano:

I'm not in favour of this decision. The whole point of the Champions League is for all of the top teams to compete. I think the competition is diminished without City in it.

Premier League and Uefa FFP are vastly different. Have no clue if we failed that or not.

What fans? Half of them don't even turn up for the group stages of the CL anyways.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Just seen the news. A lot to take in, probably got bits of this wrong but I think it's....

(1) City are a small time club... always have been, always will be
(2) The owners wanted to buy success, are impatient and used to money solving every problem
(3) So they buy loads of players for loads of money and get the best manager in the world (at the time). All at a huge salary... some off the books (allegedly)
(4) Some brave bod at City says "ummm, excuse me, what about FFP?"
(5) Brave bod gets sacked and 'disappears' (allegedly)
(6) Brave bods' boss's boss's boss says "actually, brave bod had a point, UEFA don't like clubs who spend a trillion gazillion and have 15 fans and 2 sponsorship deals"
(7) Owners say "well, spend more money then!"
(8) Big boss says "no, we need some income"
(9) Owners say "well pay fans to watch us and inflate the attendance!"
(10) Big boss says "we've been doing that for a while, I've watched 481 home games already this season and it's only October. It's not enough" (allegedly)
(11) Owners say "then make something up!!" (allegedly)
(12) Big boss says "but if UEFA find out, we'll be in bigger trouble than plain FFP"
(13) Owners (clearly frustrated now) say "THEN TELL ME HOW MUCH ONE OF MY/MY FRIENDS' COMPANY'S NEED TO SPONSOR US FOR, SEND ME A DOCUMENT TO SIGN AND LEAVE ME ALONE! I'M WATCHING TV!!!!" (allegedly)
(14) Big boss gulps and says "yes sir, sorry sir, leave it with me sir" and retreats backwards (at pace) from the room
(15) UEFA eventually finds out and says "you've been naughty, do you have anything to say for yourself?!"
(16) Big boss (owners can't be arsed to speak to UEFA) says "we're sorry, think there was an accident, we sacked someone" (releases brave bod and tells him to play ball "or else")
(17) UEFA amazingly, stupidly let them off with a warning despite everyone in the world (including remote tribes in the Amazon ... "them big cheat men") knowing they were guilty
(18) City carry on and worse
(19) Paper leaks stuff proving City breaking rules still/more and laughing at UEFA... "I still can't believe they let us off. They're so stupid, we could sell them a bridge!"
(20) UEFA really don't like the "bridge" remark (and are a little pissed about the cheating) so investigate them
(21) UEFA tell City they're guilty and are thinking about punishment
(22) City owners shout, break stuff, say "GIVE THEM MONEY!" (allegedly)
(23) UEFA say "sorry, that doesn't work with us, we can't be bought.... this time" (allegedly)
(24) City say "we'll appeal then (and tell our dads on you)"
(25) City lawyers laugh and say "appeal what, you morons? We haven't said what the punishment is yet. Lol"
(26) City lawyers shout "We'll never give in. Never!!" (then whisper "sorry Claudio, we know they're guilty but man, they're paying us shitloads! See you for squash on Tuesday?")
(27) City release statement about potential appeal and CAS (allegedly) laugh and say "appeal what, you morons? Double lolz"
(28) UEFA give City a two year ban
(29) City say "that's not fair, some of the details were leaked... and it wasn't impartial... and, and, and it's not fair, we're rich!"
(30) The entire world (apart from the 13,260 fans who attend games and are paid to say they're 3 different people) laughs at them and says "we hate you more than Liverpool. At least they earned their success and have a history that goes back beyond a week last Friday".

Then social media kicks in and we all laugh... a lot.

Thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with what Milan did but how does the severity compare with what City did? Also if you have any links to articles that would be much appreciated.
No problem. Milan failed to have a sustainable balance sheet so they were banned because they were loosing too much money. According to the football leaks, City cooked the books and created shell companies to hide the fact that the money came straight from Saudi Arabia, then they refused to comply with the investigation. i'd say it's much worse.

Here's an article about Milan AC.

Sadly, this might be the very last chance for aguero, silva, fernandinho and co. to bring european glory to the emptihad.

Oh the pressure must be immense. In 3 seasons time they might be too old/past it to even still be at the club. Not to mention the impact this will have on their recruitment. They will need to pay over the odds in terms of wages/transfer fees now that they don't have CL on offer. Which in turn will impact their FFP even more, especially now that they don't have any fake sponsorships to hide behind.

It also might be peps last hurrah here. I can't see him sticking around, trying to motivate a rebuilding team to win the league/domestic cups for another 2 seasons.

They shouldn't even be fecking in it. They won a lottery otherwise they'd have remained a nothing club, probably fighting in the championship right now.
They should be in the fecking championship by now had it not been for the buyout. shaun goater would still be leading the line for them.

cnuts.

"I’m pretty sure the club knew this was coming.....and probably also the players......goes some way to explain the massive drop off in form.

I still trust the club to deal with this in the correct way....let’s keep our dignity and hope things turn our way.

The Glazers have continually taken money out of football......we have invested into football ......says it all really! "

Yep. Consistently outplayed by the likes of Norwich is because the players were feeling sorry for themselves.

Yep, the Mansours have only invested into football, which goes to explain the buying of real estate in East Manchester
