At what point do EUFA decide that stripping City of any domestic titles won in the last decade is the fairest course of action?

Except for last season's title win. They can keep that one as a token gesture of goodwill.
13/14 was a fair win too. They can keep them both.

They do have a chance. What the UEFA accused them of is fraud, by hiding money injections from the owner behind inflated "legit" sponsorship deals, they allegedly tried to decept the UEFA in order to gain something, in our case access to UEFA competitions. That's reprehensible by law.

If I remember correctly that's what PSG wanted to avoid, years ago it was said that QSI decided that it was better to do things in front of the UEFA and let them reevaluate deals, that way they couldn't be accused of fraud.
Oh I see. But why is it reprehensible by law? FFP is a sports stuff, it's not a law itself in any country, let alone Europe... or am I wrong?
What I am trying to say is that it's a private competition at the end of the day. You play by the rules, or you don't, but that's about it, isn't it?

Or am I missing something?

Uefa have no jurisdiction or power to do that only the PL have.

Don't get excited about this. The ban will be overturned or reduced to one year.
Of course... and they’ll inevitably bounce back, ‘cos they’ve got bottomless cash and have admittedly already won enough to have somewhat established their brand by now, in fairness... Not enough to weather a sustained period of wilderness, like us or Pool or Arse (though they won’t need to) but maybe just enough to lose Pep, plus a few potential marquee signings that could’ve bolstered them, but will now be forever skeptical, not to mention a lot more amenable to pitches from the kind of solid, romantic legacy clubs that just might need them more!

And even if NONE of that transpires at all ... feck it! We’ll never let them live it down...and nothing they ever achieve will be taken as legit, without a cavalcade of the kind of endlessly gleeful dismissive cynicism they all pretend they don’t care about, be we all know absolutely eats them alive every waking minute!

Mwa ha.... Mwa ha ha ha haha!!

(Or, whatever, at least we get to laugh at them tonight... I’ll take it this season... at least before they win it as an ironic parting shot!)

I don't see any the dilemna for the players. They have guaranteed contracts that the club must honour.

They might start getting itchy about the off-shore accounts though, in case someone ever comes after them.
Are these contracts even legal with all this being brought to light? There's going to be some forensic examination of City's paper trail now and it's going to get messy.

What are the club honouring? The above board contract, or the full one, with half the wage paid under the table?

You have to think that the email celebrating the death of the UEFA official will play a huge part. It gives them huge motivation to throw the book at them.

Yep agree with this

A lot also depends on CAS' jurisdiction. What are they able to throw out? If the case is narrowly scoped to City's deception then they are fecked. If it is widened to focused on FFP's validity then it gets interesting
I don’t think CAS does that. As far as I understand it’s only there to ensure that UEFA, or whatever sporting body, have followed their own rules. When clubs sign up to FFP they agree with UEFA to allow CAS to arbitrate over any sanctions if they wish to appeal them.

Fraud is reprehensible by law, it's illegal to use lie, dishonesty, falsehood or deception in an attempt to gain a benefit. The issue here isn't FFP, it's what they allegedly did to go around it.

Vile plastic club I'm delighted. Being called bitter for saying they were dirty cheats makes this even sweeter. Champions league is far too good for them.

Where are all the city fans?? Come on you couldn't post in a thread without dodging 12 of them 2 seasons ago. Buying their Liverpool shirts I reckon

Not a chance?

All the people who've covered this indepth have acknowledged there is a significant chance that this gets appealed successfully.

Ok. Lets just watch this space. This is new for UEFA. They lay bare the scandal, then they lay bare the attempted cover up and attempt to stymie the investigation. Think about it. Maybe they get a softer verdict. But no way its overturned, in my very humble opinion.

They were just discussing it on ITV News and said even if the first appeal doesn't get overturned then they will make a second one based on something else.

You just know this is not going to result in them getting banned in the end because it doesn't seem black and white by the sounds of it. Our best hope is the ban staying at one season but they will bluff their way out of that probably.

I'm guessing it's because they don't lie about their finances.

Nice to see UEFA finally do something about Manchester City's cheating. And it'll be nice to see a proper football club take their place in the CL, be it Manchester United, or whoever.
Calm down pal I wasn't serious

Oh feck just realised would that mean 5th gets Champions League?
It does.

UEFA rule: "A club which is not admitted to the competition is replaced by the next best-placed club in the top domestic championship of the same association"

It will definitely get (at least) halved on appeal... But if I was being cynically optimistic (or a sexy alcoholic lawyer in an Aaron Sorkin show) I’d say the 2 year sentence was a calculated length to ensure the widely agreed upon year was eventually accepted as a win by all parties...

That said, I’d hardly be shocked if they got off entirely. We are all obviously living in the worst timeline, after all.

They didn't give a reason for it but on sky they said if CAS rules against them they can appeal that in a Swiss court.

Personally I think it’s a bit harsh considering what corruption has been happening in the Spanish and Italian games for decades

Would love UEFA to lay into them even more, I bet this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the dodgy shit they do.

Why will it definitely get reduced? Based on what?

Their whole 'project' is melting down and I love to see it
now if this is true, he’s a gigantic bellend.
Yeah I get it’s the Champions League. But you play what? 10-12 cl games in an entire season. It’s not the be and end all. Especially as you know you’ll be back in it once the ban is over. This is the time city players and management should be showing they give a shit about the club. Let’s see ........

Yep good chance it gets reduced to one year. Was generally expected one year ban would be issued, two year ban possibly imposed in knowledge it will be reduced on appeal. Chelsea were able to reduce their transfer ban.

Also big question of how long appeal will take, good chance that it’s not resolved before next season and ban could be postponed.

Think City will even dispute any CAS ruling that doesn’t exonerate them and this will drag for a long time.

Doesn't mean City shouldn't be punished, but I see your point. UEFA have a closer relationship with the big Spanish clubs; I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to say that if for instance Barcelona were doing similar book cooking, UEFA wouldn't have gone after them this hard.

Which is not to say I'm not going to enjoy every minute of this

I really am not so sure that it will be overturned or reduced. They were caught before and this time they have actively hidden where the money was coming from and apparently refused to engage with the investigation. I would love to see CAS advising on appeal that the punishment did not go far enough.

I don’t disagree that city got themselves into the mess so feck em but on the other hand I think UEFA have had it in for the english game since the PL money came about

I disagree. The Spaniards were just lucky that they managed to never let the IDs of Dr Fuentes’s blood bags be known. It doesn’t mean City should get done If the evidence is there.

Where’s the City fans that we’re desperately trying to convince people they weren’t doing this shit despite all the evidence?

But if 100 percent evidence became public they had to do Spain etc. By all accounts they tried to hush this up too

Don’t get me wrong, city deserve punishment. I just feel that if it were a Spanish or Italian club, it wouldn’t be handled the same way
