I'm not sure about that. Definitely not on the Caf.

Yeah, I don't think he's become a bad manager. And I think he'll bring success given time. I'll take a raincheck on the told you so.
The Caf is mainly internet fans who talk shit. Let's be honest. Jose gets a great reception at OT as a pundit and even when he came back for Spurs.

You have to feel a bit sorry for him and Tottenham with all the injuries they've got. I think in that post match interview he backed his players more than he slated them.
Next season after a transfer window and all the players come back will be the real test for Jose and his team, not a lot more they can be doing at the moment for me.

To me it's more a case of the game having moved on and he doesn't seem to have changed with it.

This was something Fergie was great at but he's seems to have been a one-off in that regard.

So Mourinho should get a pass for missing Kane and Son, but Ole gets criticised even when players like Martial, McTominay, Shaw, Matic, Bailly, Dalot, Tuanzebe have missed loads of games, Pogba has basically been out for the whole season and Rashford is not coming back until the end of it, if at all?

The love for Mourinho is weird, he is the manager of one of our current rivals, of course any fan would want him to fail.

Yes losing both Son and Kane would definitely affect any team, but I have watched him with both of them in the pitch, the football was still terrible, long balls, backing off,I can course number of games they did well.
I even thought that Kane would struggle to hit his usual height if he had been fit, because his overall play declined when he was fit,he was isolated, fed long balls and dropped dip.

Not from me, no. His football is utter trash, with Son and Kane as well. His setup until they conceded was embarrassing. He doesn't seem to do a lot of coaching, and nowadays every half decent side is coached well. When Southampton have a guy like Hasenhüttl and Everton Ancelotti, you have to up your game in every part to win games.

Injuries are excuses and pathetic to me. You have 20+ players at your disposal, a few injuries to key players is unfortunate, but it happens to most managers at most clubs . Deal with it.

He’s taken them from 14th to within a point of the top four so he must be doing something right surely?

It’s tough for Spurs losing Kane, Son and Eriksen. Done well to be anywhere near top 4 to be honest.

I think Sick Boy sums him up pretty well:
At one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever.

The Name of The Rose is merely a blip on an otherwise uninterrupted downward trajectory.

Sick Boy : It's certainly a phenomenon in all walks of life.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : What do you mean?

Sick Boy : Well, at one time, you've got it, and then you lose it, and it's gone forever. All walks of life: George Best, for example. Had it, lost it. Or David Bowie, or Lou Reed...

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : Some of his solo stuff's not bad.

Sick Boy : No, it's not bad, but it's not great either. And in your heart you kind of know that although it sounds all right, it's actually just shite.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : So who else?

Sick Boy : Charlie Nicholas, David Niven, Malcolm McLaren, Elvis Presley...

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : OK, OK, so what's the point you're trying to make?

Sick Boy : All I'm trying to do is help you understand that The Name of The Rose is merely a blip on an otherwise uninterrupted downward trajectory.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : What about The Untouchables?

Sick Boy : I don't rate that at all.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : Despite the Academy Award?

Sick Boy : That means feck all. Its a sympathy vote.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : Right. So we all get old and then we can't hack it anymore. Is that it?

Sick Boy : Yeah.

Mark "Rent-boy" Renton : That's your theory?

Sick Boy : Yeah. Beautifully fecking illustrated

But Ole has been without Rashford, Mctominay and Pogba for alot longer yet is doing awfully bad despite being in the top 4 conversation.

He's got good receptions whenever he's been back at Old Trafford recently.
So does Moyes... doesn't mean Mourinho isnt pond scum and who's recruitment has set us back 4 years and created a toxic mentality around the club.

Wouldn't piss on the man if he was on fire. Won two tin pot trophies and stumbled to second place and is proclaimed as a decent manager for us... feck off with that shite.

Well both teams have been piss poor and injuries are part of that. I’d suspect Spurs to go sliding down the league now though. To be fair they had Lloris out for a spell too, they’ve been pretty unlucky this season with injuries.

Every team excluding the top 3 have been consistently terrible tbh. Anybody with a bit of form would have had 4th locked in by now but the lot of us from 4-11th keep losing.

Half the reason Mourinho players get injured so often is that like Ole with Rashford, he doesn't rotate well. SAF was a master at rotating for the FA cup, hell he even did it for the CL.

The reality with Mourinho is that in the 00s with his high strength, intense style of football was novel, but with the rise of managers like Klopp and the high press style of football, his brand of football has been badly left behind. He offers very little novel compared to the current crop of managers, outside defensive tactical nous in a one off match. Even the likes of say Hasenhutll play a more effective brand of football than him. He's been left behind and I don't see him reinventing himself.

Someone disagreeing with you doesn't have to be because of an agenda.

Besides there was enough attacking talent on the pitch to cause them more trouble but it's Mourinho in charge so the other team dominate and no one seems to want the ball or know what to do when they get it.

It'll only get worse.
If they were controlling the match but toothless in attack that's one thing. That's what the last 20 minutes were. For the first 70 it was like watching Atleti protecting their lead against Liverpool, except for most of it the match was 0-0 and I'll Spurs had a clear advantage in midfield. Once he showed some ambition RB weren't dictating play without any problem.

Maybe have a better strategy than keep a low block and play it long to Lucas. Jose's tactics were embarrassing tonight.

I love Jose. He's one of my favorite characters in the sport and one of the first I kind of was able to track their entire career as coverage over here in America didn't really start to happen until mid 2000s.

I hate what he's become though. His lack of tactical evolution while constantly feeling the need to defend his personal (past) achievements even at the expense of his current club and/or players is tiresome.

His explanation for his hair cut was telling as well. He basically said it was a shit job and shave it all off. The passive aggressive one.

Some crazy people were thinking Spurs would win it or go far.

Obviously second leg could change as we saw many times last season. But fact is José back in the good old days would win a tie like this easily with a clean sheet too.

He has lost his spark in the champions league for a while.

Yes they have injuries. But there was a time where José was like Klopp or Pep where he would find a way through these injuries and get the results.

He’s lost the magic spark and now he’s just a parody of himself.

A manager living off of past glories, and whilst he has won since then, I think it was Real Madrid that really broke him, he just really hasn't looked the same, that initial charisma he had just seemed to turn into a bitter bitter man. He's being left behind tactically by a wide margin, he'll still get the odd win but it's managers like Nagelsmann and Rose that are the future.

Jose is safe for this season, he has both his main goal scorers out for the season. And his midfield powerhouse sidelined. Spurs have no midfield without Sissoko, despite having like 8 midfielders. Lo Celso, Winks, Wanyama, Dier, Skipp, Ndombele, Sissoko, im sure there are others I am missing in this list. Winks and Lo Celso are far too light weight as a midfield duo. Yes they are great technicians, doesnt help when you dont have the ball. Dier is poor under the press as a pivot and offers virtually nothing going forward. Even his defensive output has dropped off. Wanyama and Ndombele seem to be injured permanently. Winks is ok, a squad player, should not be first choice, Skipp is still a kid. Sissoko is the only one I rate from their midfield, real pace and power and a good engine as well. But he is out for the season?

Because Spurs are not winning the midfield battle the CB's are hitting long balls to Moura who is a lightweight midget and the ball is never going to stick like it would with a Kane up top.

Jose needs to move on Dier, Wanyama, maybe Winks as Lo Celso is simply better, and bring in a DM, I think a Ndidi style player would be great for them. Stick with Ndombele, Lo Celso(this kid looks the goods), Sissoko, Skipp, new DM.

Gotta love the caf. Losing 1 nil against fellow cl team is the sign of weak, past it, doomed, catastrophic, sacked watch.

These match happens, every team encounter this. Not every team is barcelona 2009 or united 1999/2008.

Let's see the second leg before we go yeah he's past it.

It could seem like a massive achievement if it weren't for context. It was 3 points between 14th and 5th when he started. Utd was 2 points ahead of Tottenham at the time:

However, the gap between Tottenham and Chelsea was 12 points, so yes he did catch up with them:

Nevertheless, United have also closed the gap to 4th from 10 points to 3 points. Yet according to many Caf posters, Ole is a very poor manager having a very poor season. Based upon that, my conclusion would be that neither Jose nor Ole have done anything remarkable. Chelsea deserves lone credit for being very underwhelming.

In comparison to his last 14 PL games for United before his dismissal, he has gained 3 more points during his first 14 PL games for Tottenham:

I'm not sure if that's a good sign or not. On the one hand, Spurs supporters will probably understandably argue that he has managed to steady the ship. On the other hand, United supporters wouldn't be wrong to argue that his performance is hardly better than in his final months at United.

I feel like it's too early to judge and a lot will depend on the performance of the other teams competing for the CL qualification. I think he will struggle if other teams manage to build some momentum like I hope United will. But if it goes down to the wire I wouldn't be completely surprised to see him pull off an old Mourinho and prove many of us naysayers wrong. Either way, I think he's a fascinating character and I am pleased that he's still around.

This is going to unravel badly by the end of the season. I can see Kane wanting to move to a better club in the summer, maybe Son too with both Barca and Real and Bayern in need of strikers and Spurs will not replace with equal quality.

hes a great manager. He was backed 75% here and he wojuld have made Second again with the cash but Jaysus the football was awful and his comments in interviews about us after horrible gutless performances made me dislike him. He’s a cool guy in. General but he won’t do anything special with spurs. The team peaked before him and he’s not going to develop another CL final team on a limited budget. Hes a genius but he needs cash and players to run through walls for him. Those players have been running through walls for years on middling money. I don’t see it in that group of players anymore. Kane is the one. If they can keep him fit then maybe... we should be in for son of wants to leave.Good age attitude and numbers.

psg, Bayern, real, athletico might still take a punt on JM but it guarantees nothing anymore

Tie is not over, Spurs winning 2-1 against Leipzig is not something impossible. 2 good counters or set pieces is enough.

Won't be surprised if they pull this off.

It’s genuinely mental isn’t it.

You’d think after his absolutely abysmal job with us; everyone would realise what I’ve been saying for years.
I don't mind people not rating Ole and want him out (I want him gone too) but I don't understand why any ManUtd fan still support Jose after his time with us.

Thread on Pogba/Raiola - Jose fans "see Jose was correct"
Thread on Martial - Jose fans "see how Jose was spot on"
Thread on rashford - Jose fans "see how Jose knew his position"
Thread on McT - Jose fans "see how Jose saw something no one did"
Thread on Jose - Jose fans "see how shit Ole is"

It's like their world revolve around Jose.

I don't think it's fair for him to be judged this season, just like it wasn't fair for Klopp. After next season we can all make fun of him, but for now let's just see if they can come into the CL spots, which would be a success for him.
