This has to be the worst game Ive seen Fred play in a while. I cant count the amount of times he lost possession which led to dangerous counterattack led by the opponent. I loved one of the recoveries he made while on the ground, but that was a disaster today overall, should have scored as well, what a misser that was.

Needs to be less sloppy on the ball otherwise he will never be a top midfielder. He's always prone to being disposessed.

Very poor today. Watford singled him out for physical treatment and they left him on his arse a few times. Definitely needs to improve on his upper body strength. He can be weak as feck on the ball.

As I said a week ago, he is a decent player. But, if he can control and shield the ball a bit better under pressure, he would be a very good midfielder.

Tough game for him. Feel like Watford targeted him and when we put the ball in to him they went at him hard. They forced a lot of errors and turnovers out of him and Matic to be fair.

Were times when he got a bit of breathing room and was able to pick out some nice progressive passes but yeah not one of his better games, but I do think that was more down to Watford than him having a drop in form.

Poorest game for some time, was due one to be fair. That said still had some quality moments like the ball through that lead to the penalty. Second half was better and took less touches.....

Watford kicked the living shit out of Fred and he didn't seem to mind.

He does worry me a lot when he's up against the press, and yesterday didn't help. Not a massive issue but it is a flaw to his game.

Still think McT is our best midfielder in that regard... but yeah, as Fred has learned to become a good PL midfielder in the past few months, no reason he can't become better when being pressed either.

As soon as he has a player leaning into him he loses all balance and usually falls on his back, while under-hitting the pass. When closed down his options are to either immediately offload the ball, or accelerate out of the press. But he can't shield the ball, fend off the presser and then pick a calm pass like Matic often does. He will go over almost immediately when he comes into contact with the pressing player, and he will rarely get a foul for it.

It's part of the reason why I can never see him as a #6. He's still too dangerous in possession around our box and I'm surprised more teams don't target him when he drops deep to collect it. Watford's plan wasn't exactly novel or genius.

He's still a very useful CM though; good pace, passing range and pressing skills. I do however feel that he could eventually lose his place to McTominay if the latter continues improving and if we sign a specialist DM to replace Matic.

It was more Watford putting us under insane pressure in the centre tbh. They completely neglected the wide areas and in turn pressed Fred/Matic as soon as they got the ball.

It worked until they blew their load early and couldn't keep it up. I still don't like Fred/Matic as a partnership, glad Mctominay is back soon.

Hope he's not too bothered after yesterday. Dealt with it well enough, I thought. Also wondered if it would have worked to tell him to simply move further up the pitch when it became clear it was such a big part of Watford's game plan. Looked like they were gambling on Matic not being able to help out/get properly positioned in time once they won the ball.

The problem yesterday was Matic. He should have been in the space in front of the CBs. yet he kept moving too high up the pitch either under instructions or on his own. This left Fred exposed to the Watford players. They ganged up on him and he had no Matic to pass the ball to get away from this. It is bound to happen when he has no options to pass. The defensive midfield player is required as an option too when there is a press on one player.

Lots of sensible comments.

It was a tough game for Fred but hopefully he learns from this because it has been a bit 'easy' (because he's been so good) and under the radar.

I will say the obvious that the poor coaching and movement of our team didn't help. Fred constantly put himself in positions to receive the ball and be an outlet, which should have been rewarded with his team mates making better angles.

If these pressing tactics continues, I would like to see Fernandes drop a bit to offer more control as I did find there to be bit of a distance.

Now Rashford is out for extended period, surely Fred is front contender for our Player of the Year.

So excited to see how he evolves into next season.

Brilliant game from him. 2 goals and assist, more than that his energy levels is just insane. He was everywhere.

Was shocked when his shots resulted in goals rather than smashing the guy in the face in row Z. Great performance from Fred.

When people ask: 'What players has Ole improved? Just saying this fella's name should be enough to end the conversation.

He manages to look like we’ve brought him on for fresh legs in midfield, when in fact he lost his two partners.

Mega engine. With Pogba and McTominay out for so long he’s been the only one running (literally) midfield. Mental how much gas he has in his rather short tank.

At least he seems to be finally understanding from where he should and shouldn’t be shooting! Good lad.

How can this guy play pretty much all games, and have that much energy for 90 mins straight? Shows great tenacity and has an eye for a pass as well.

I love the fact that he gets even better when playing against the bigger clubs.

Brilliant turnaround this season. Looks like he’s really starting to find his feet now (pardon the pun). I take my hat off to him, I couldn’t see anything from him last season.

He was all ready the all action midfielder, if he can start adding goals regularly

absolutely love the guy, he’s stepped up massively this season. Shame he doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves, he’s been every bit as good as Kante for me.

Was having a very good season but then stepped it up another level now with Bruno arriving next to him. Love it.

It was obvious from day 1 that he is a baller. He hasn't turned anything around, consistent football instead of going to bench one game, playing 15 minutes here and starting here is sometimes the trick.
Maybe we need to start educating ourselves a bit more and stop repeating things that are popular just for the sake of it.
