No, you didnt know where he was going to put it because he waited for the keeper to go and put it the other way. So unless you knew which way Foster was going to dive, it was pure guess work.

I respect all opinions but i still think that it's a risky way of kicking a penalty, so respect my opinion too please.
You have Jorginho who employs a similar PK style and consistently beat goalkeepers, sometimes twice in the same match. If its just simple trick which can be exposed, don’t you think players would stopped using it already?

Here’s Jorginho beating caf favourite Onana twice from the spot, in the same match:

He also beat Adrian twice from the spot in the Super Cup.

Conversion rate is all that counts. As is his conversion rate is excellent. Until that changes he should keep doing what he's doing.

He could do a 360 degree twirl, followed by a handstand and a cartwheel... As long as he scores I couldn't give a toss

His conversion rate is great so I wouldn't change anything.

I also get annoyed by those sort of hesitant run-ups but he can do handstands for all I care, if he puts them away!

......and i sure hope that he doesn't let us down - may he score as many as possible.
Just expressing what i think when watching him take them, that's all.
yes I agree - unconventional style and jangles the nerves a little
probably not helped by the style Pogba adapted which was less successful - he scored a few and missed a few

I wonder what the penalty pecking order will be when all are fit - for me it still should be Rashford as first choice

I agree with you and i also hope that he keeps putting them all away for years to come.

For me he was MOTM today but i have some criticism of the way he takes penalties.

I watched him taking them for Sporting for some time before he joined us and he was very lucky in Portugal with a number of them and the 'help' of dodgy goalkeepers.
I knew exactly how and where he was going to kick this today and any PL goalkeeper who had seen his penalties before would have had a great chance of saving this one - the good thing is that Foster seems not to have watched him before.

The next penalty we'll get will be crucial for Bruno and, i feel, he should not continue with his hop prior to his kick as it takes the impetus off his penalty kick.
the whole point of the hop is to allow the keeper to move first before slotting it the other way. It doesn't matter if someone watching guesses where Bruno was going, it only matters where the keeper is going from Bruno's point of view while he's doing the hop. This technique is much more effective than just smashing it into one side and hoping you placed it into the corner and the keeper went the other way.
Yeah, it looks stupid but again don't think it matters if it goes in.

I couldn't give a shit if the player in question whipped his tadger out to misdirect the keeper as long as the ball goes in.

To each their own

Yeah it looks daft and seems counterintuitive but he scored and he has a much better record than any of our takers so he can do what he likes as far as I'm concerned.

His hop is to make the keeper move which they usually do and if they don't when he rolls it into the corner the keeper has no hope of saving it . Plus he doesn't always do this .

His record from the spot is fantastic so I wouldn't worry to much about Bruno and his penalties

The problems happen if the keeper doesn't move from the middle as the kicker must be quick-thinking enough to slide the ball into one side of the post which he thinks the keeper won't guess.

That's a very good number which he converted but the level of the goalkeepers in Portugal is not so great.
I obviously still hope that his way of taking them will keep on baffling PL keepers! :D
You don't need to be a great keeper to save a penalty.. Anyone whoever played football at any level will understand this

It's a mind boggling that people think that clubs in Portugal hadn't studied his penalty taking ways. Ditto Foster.

If the keepers keep diving and allowing him to pick his spot he'll keep doing it.

I'm sure if keepers figure out how to get around it he'll stop doing it so no big deal.

Well, he scores nearly all of them. 13 in a row isn't it? Clearly his feet are quicker than the keeper's. He waits for the faintest movement from them and he can place it the way he wants. So long as he keeps scoring, he can back heel then for all I care.

Is the point of that penalty taking style not to read which way the keeper is going?
Yeah, the idea is that the keeper will spot the sudden movement, crouch down and lean one way anticipating a jump. then shoot the opposite direction. The keeper is observing the ballas much as the player, so there is some perpiheral vision trickery going on

I noticed! :D Tbf, it looks fecking atrocious! 21 out of 23 is hard to argue against though. Your observation about Portuguese keepers surprise me though, I feel every other time a penalty is saved, it’s a Portuguese keeper!
She's talking about keepers in the Portuguese league being of lower quality, because the Portuguese league is lower quality, not that keepers who are Portuguese can't save pens.

its very difficult to save them if the keeper only moves after the kick is taken.

21/23 scored. The little hop gives him just the right amount of time to know where the keeper is going and then as he is coming down he knows what side to pass it into. If he’s coming down and the keeper has done his homework and doesn’t move then he has the technique to smash it in anyway.

he’s a perfect penalty taker. Not suited for your average untalented onlooker though.

Jorginho takes his penalties the same way and I feel like he never misses so I'm happy to see Bruno do the same.

Hes scored his last 11 out of 11 for sporting and now 1 out of 1 for us... whats not to like. I found it entertaining. He is a very intelligent player and outwitted th keeper making him look silly he will mix it up.

its not a day for negatives on bruno hes awesome.

You haven't qualified yours though. Why is it risky if the two people we know who use this technique have an incredible conversion rate? He scores the vast majority of the pens he takes. That's all that matters.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on Bruno past career, but I watched his "all goals and assists" video when we signed him, and he was doing the same penalty technique and putting them both sides of the goal. It's not as if he's always going to the same side. I'm certainly more confident of him taking one than anyone else in the squad right now.

Reassess when he actually misses one. Criticising a penalty taker who has allegedly scored 13 in a row and just scored one for us is madness.

Eh, yes? That was pretty clear. I just made a joke about all the times I’ve seen Portuguese keepers save penalties. Against us, in the EC and WC. I remember this Ricardo guy who seemed to save more than he let in. Portuguese keepers have some magical juju when it comes to penalties. Bruno is just making them all his bishes.

You don't like the way he does his penalties despite the fact that he scores them? That seems irrational to me.

Probably thinks Super Liga’s GKs are shite and only the ones from the mighty BPL can save a pen.
