You didn't understand the clux of my post. I am not here debating whether Barcelona is better than Chelsea, United, Arsenal or Spurs. Ofcourse they are. The point is other teams in LaLiga bar Madrid duos and Barca will never be able to topple the big two or three. SO you guys could afford a bad season or two and still find yourself in CL position but chances of that happening here is less. To get a top 4 position in PL is much harder for a top club than in La Liga or Bundlesliga.
With the way things are in the Premiere league city can be decimated with injuries like they have been and sleepwalk to a second place finish. So would liverpool. Those teams will be the new Barca/Madrid. Their head and shoulders above the rest and will continue to be so. If you’re next biggest threat is Leicester then yeah, making top 4 won’t be a problem for either of pool or city. Nearly every epl team in the top ten has regressed of the big clubs including City.

Tottenham, chelsea, united, aren’t in the same tier as city and pool even spending wise as united blow their money as bad as Barca do and the others either barely spend it or don’t spend as much.

The next couple years of epl will have the same thing la liga has had with Barca and Madrid.

Liverpool failed to get a SINGLE shot on target. They also lost to Napoli who aren’t even top 4 in England. Love that you have Liverpool comfortably going through but Juventus going out despite having the same deficit as Liverpool

City needed 2 extremely late goals, Madrid are missing hazard and won’t have Ramos in the second leg.

It’s a joke of a league this year and again, teams 3-7 are far more competitive in la liga than they are in epl. No team in England is able to not allow Liverpool a shot on target yet teams like Atletico and Napoli are

And psg are just down one goal, tie is far from over and Dortmund is better than any epl team not city or Liverpool. Chelsea got curb Stomped and arsenal are out. United has had some very easy matchups
Yes, away from home. Relax, as soon as Athleti go a goal down, theyll have no idea what to do.

Juve and PSG might go through.
3-7 have same points as 3-12 in PL actually which shows PL is more competitive.

City will be missing Sane and Laporte too.. have you seen the benches of both team?

Also the best quality game in the last 2/3 years has been between Liverpool and City from the EPL.

Apart from last season i cant think of genuine title race. The season before City won the league be 20 points as well.

This season the PL quality has been poor without a doubt, i mean Leicester haven't won a game in nearly 2 months but they're still 3rd! Honestly what kind of nonsense is this?
Haha was just about to mention Leicester. Good call. There’s a lot of shithousery with Atletico and Getafe but both teams had impressive wins over Liverpool and Ajax. The fact that people still act like epl is this brilliant league where anyone can beat anyone is hilarious. The quality is teams is amongst the worst it’s been including 2016 as brutal.

Yes, Messi is very important to Barca. But he's also the one who makes it almost impossible to put pressure on the opponent. He doesn't do crap when he's not on the ball. In the meantime a player like De Jong is almost playing as a striker in possession, (to make sure the goat can drop into midfield to pick up the ball), and is playing like a second DM when the opposite team has the ball.

So yes, Barca will have a problem with scoring when he retires. But other players will probably benefit from it. And maybe even the team too. Only goalscoring is going to be a problem.

And midfield creativity which Barca has none of.

He doesn’t track back but the team has zero wingers or true strikers right now. It’s a flawed squad with or without Messi

But you are putting too much focus on this one season. Two seasons ago no one would have predicted Liverpool to go unbeaten till February and be on course to reach 100 plus points. If your point is PL has become weak, absolutely yes. Last 3 or 4 years it has been pretty weak in comparison to Mid to late 2000s.

There is also no guarentee this Liverpool side are here to stay. Do you seriously think Liverpool/City will do a Barca/Madrid for next 5 years let alone a decade, I pretty much doubt it. In fact I wouldn't be ever surprised if one of them are back in Top 4 fight in next 3 to 5 years. The point is finishing in Top 4 in PL can be much harder, again this season is a weird one and I won't base my argument on that.

Look at Manchester United, dominated the league for 2 decades and one bad decision we were 7th. I doubt you will miss out on top 4 if you guys lose Messi. Winning the La Liga can be hard but finishing top 4 for the big guns is less hard in comparison to that in PL.

And how did Valverde do this season at home again Madrid? He was extremely lucky to get a draw in a match where Barca were dominated at camp nou. He also had his first matchup with Real Madrid end up 5-1 aggregate in the super cup

It wouldn’t be much different with Valverde remaining, maybe even worse.

We have no number 9 and no wingers, not sure what you’d expect. It’s the thinnest squad Barca have had in 15 years
Real didn't create much at Camp Nou at all, they did dominate the middle as Sergi Roberto had to play that day (no Busquets, no Arthur) while Real came up with a 4 man midfield but their chance creation was completely off. It was a deserved 0-0.

Yesterday was a Madrid team low on confidence coming from 2 straight losses with 1 day less rest with Benzema who scored 1 goal in his last 14 games and Vinicius who scored 1 goal the entire season. They were there for the taking, started the first half afraid then quickly noticed that Barca isn't gonna threaten too much, upped the tempo in the second half, made Pique clear the ball off the line, forced ter Stegen to make a wonder save and scored 2 goals on top of it. The end.

I don't know why you defend this guy. Valverde is 10 times the manager. Had Barca top of the table 3 seasons in a row. Fast forward 3 months later and Barca are out of the Cup, lost El Clasico and the CL performance against Napoli looked dire (first shot after 60 minutes). 9 out of 11 games under Setien haven been either losses, draws or grinding wins by a 1 goal margin. What's there to defend. Valverde is 10 times the manager.

Do you know how many dire performances in CL Valverde has had? How do you dismiss those, we should’ve lost by multiple goals in the first game against Dortmund, struggled like crazy both times against teams like slavia Prague ffs.

We had a better xG than Madrid yesterday but were wasteful in the first half and Madrid dominated the second.

I don’t think Setien is the second coming, far from it, but Valverde absolutely had to go. He also never had a squad this thin to deal with.

Give Valverde this thin of a squad and lose against Betis for sure instead of winning 3-2 away like we did, we lose to Napoli, and we still lose yesterday.

The reason Barca and Madrid dominated so much is because they had the two best players of all time. La liga was much more even for the most part before their arrival. You guys had bad timing with the rise of city (money) and Liverpool striking gold. City have been dominating epl for The last 5 years or so winning the most titles and they’ll continue to do no worse than top 2 for the next 3 years at least. The rest of the epl after Liverpool is so far behind with. Management and spending money on good transfers they have a long way to catch up.

Give it more time to judge. Last year's Classico looked just as bad/worse against a weaker RM, but Barca somehow miraculously fluked out a 3-0 win.

Agreed. They need creative 10.

But i also think they should change their system and play with a double pivot. That way there's way more room for Messi to do his thing.

Agreee! A double pivot is the way to go, we just don’t have the squad without wingers to play many other ways.

Have you seen us play? Our midfield when it comes to being creative and pushing the ball forward didn’t exist. Messi has to drop deeper than ever to start the play.
This is why I am lost as to why Coutinho was allowed to go on loan? Surely he could have helped the team?

Not at all impressed by Barca recently. Feels like they are a very beatable side. Struggle to see them do much in CL. Which sadly only helps Pool and City if they advance sadly.

Honestly, coutinho and griezman have the same issue. They are both at their best in Messi’s position/space. Neither player was what we needed. As much as some Barca fans felt Suarez/Messi/Griezmann were going to be the second coming of Suarez/Messi/neymar griezman is not a winger. He was never going to thrive. I actually think he’s been OK all things considered.

As for De Jong:

https://tribuna.com/en/fcbarcelona/news/3570559/

I think we have a technical staff in name only.

But to go back to your original question I’m not opposed to coutinho coming back but if I’m being honest I’d rather sell him. He isn’t cutting it at Bayern either anymore.

P.S second team in the farmers league gave the 1st team in La Liga a footballing lesson in the CL. Real v City
Games were eerily similar, too. Big difference was Kroos instead of Modric(who is finished :( ), but still, City are just a much better team. Better coached, deeper, more talented

Also yeah, Busquets really couldn't play in the PL(or the bundesliga)

That is the issue with Barca's transfer policy, they made weird decisions. Greizman in the last few years has become a player that plays behind a striker, that role does not exist at Barca.

It was a weird buy because he is 29 this year so, when Messi leaves its not like Griezman will be main man as he will be 32?

They needed a LW with pace and skill.

I think De Jong will be a success in the long run as he will fill Busquets role, but are the two other midfielders Barca quality?

I think selling Coutinho will be hard, same as Bale at Madrid because no one will spend the fee you want, only a handful of clubs can afford him.

I agree, City are what Real were a few years ago, players in their prime, with match winners.

Real's biggest mistake was letting Ronaldo go and not replacing straight away.

I think Modric is finished unfortunately, but Valverde looks like a really good find, lots of energy. Real just lack the X Factor that Hazard will provide when fit.

Also, maybe next season they will sign a Galatico in Mbappe or Pogba?

I have a lot of faith in Arthur but we need another creative midfielder who can push the ball forward. Our transition from defense to attack is woeful right now.

Dembele is another one we will need to sell but you like said about coutinho, very few buyers will bite I imagine

I have heard big things about Arthur so will be interesting to see how he develops.

The transition is because there is no real speed in the attack and alot of it goes through Messi.

If I was a Barca fan, I would sell them and get as much money as possible and reinvest wisely.

Barca are having these problems because most of their purchases the last few transfer windows have been panic purchases. Paying record transfer prices for players that don't fit the team and then playing them in the wrong position is just a recipe for disaster. Griezman was just clear as day that he would not fit, don't know what they were thinking really. The management now is trying to blame the managers when they created all this mess and wasted some of Messi's best years. Shameful.

City, sure. The perks of having 12 WC outfield players. Liverpool, no fecking way

Liverpool even with a major injury would still finish ahead of chelsea, arsenal, Tottenham Leicester.

They need a massive overhaul and Messi is right that they need Neymar and Lautaro Martinez. May be Auba too.

It will be interesting how and to whom they are able to sell Dembele, Coutinho and Greizmann, beacuse either Messi will stay or Griezmann will and most likely it will be Messi.

Then they need at least 2 midfielders, and a defender and they will probably fancy a goal keeper and wing backs too... So it will be a busy summer there.

Look back in the past 5 years and youl find Leicester, Chelsea, City and now Liverpool all as title winners.

Also sometimes its Arsenal 2nd, Man Utd 2nd, Liverpool 2nd etc.

So yeah absolutely not a farmers league at all.

they can't outplay anyone in current state except for those weakest sides. while their main problems have been known for years, they are more obvious now because of the injuries. I'd say their first 11 would still win the title even from current position, but without the possibility to rest players, after sacking a manager in the middle of a season, with half of their team being low on confidence and with all the problems behind the scenes, I don't think there's coming back this time.

it's been disaster of a season so far, it's just that most people expect all that from Chelsea or any side managed by Jose, rather than Barca. it's actually funny how it all went when you think of it. I mean, they ignored Roma and Liverpool defeats and then sacked Valverde for a loss in a friendly cup, only to make their best player angry and didn't even get that new manager effect after that. I'd bet Setien will be sacked in the summer or soon after as well.

Love the fire from the assistant manager in the background:

Here is his translation in English -

“We don't have to pass it to Busquets, we have to find the interiors, right there!"

"¡Goal!.... Make a goal there Griezmann, my fecking god!! Shoot soft... soft..."

"Shoot at goal... for f*ck’s sake"

"He does nothing what needs to be done, suddenly he starts playing and shoots, when he has to play the ball... F*CK"

"We cannot have the defensive line so deep behind, because they stretch us, and then Benzema comes, receives and creates much superiority... We have to reduce the space"

And people in this thread are overreacting a bit. Barca are still just one point behind in the league but the hot takes in here make it sound like they are fighting relegation.

Still they need to improve in a hurry, I agree.

People give United shit, if either Madrid or Barcelona in the PL, they'd be fecked in terms of finishing top 4. The amount of shit house decsion making these clubs get away with because of the weakness of la liga below the top 4...

What a joke, I’d 100 times rather be in Barca’s position than united.
Woodward is one of the biggest jokes in all of football

Madrid and Barca would very comfortably make top 4 in the Prem where even Atletico are preventing Liverpool from getting a single shot on target

Is he? For his poor decision making, he hasn't authorised spunking 400 million on 3 players who have all so far failed to deliver at all for the club.

If they get knocked out in the round of 16, questions will be asked throughout the entire club of what the feck they are actually doing because right now they look so far away from winning the champions league its not funny. Barca is a smouldering dumster fire thats about to blow up very very soon.

Whereas United are already a dumpster fire. Nothing wrong with being a club in transition but United have been awful for years and Woodward is one of the most clueless in the business. Barca have lots of issues but I’ll take their squad over United’s any day of the week.

Woodward has done some AWFUL signings with di Maria, pogba who wants to leave ASAP, Luke Shaw, Sanchez, lukaku and now de gea has fallen off.

United wouldn’t get top 6 in la liga where teams like Getafe can knock out Ajax.

The reality no big players want to go to United. Even players like Haaland said hell no. United have a dismal future. Worse than Barca’s.

It’s a fact major players don’t want to come to United. Not sure why you’re pretending otherwise. United are a has been club, and like Barca they need to gut the roster.

The difference is we will get a new board with elections while you are stuck with Woodward for years to come.

How are those major players going for you right about now?

Dembele? Shit
Continho? Shit
Greizman? Shit
De Jong? Shit

If you think a new board will change anything, you are sadly deluded. See the problem with self entitled Barcelona fans like yourself, is that you expect immediate results. Because you are a fan owned club, your board is fan influenced in order to retain their positions at the next election. So chances are you'll probably keep wasting huge sums of money on flops.

Uniteds future roster currently looks far better than Barcelona's. You have a massively ageing squad which is going to cost another half a billion tp rejuvenate. Looking at your most recent transfer activity, chances are you are probably going to sign feck up after feck up. You are pretty much United circa 12/13.
