Why are we playing him when a. He’s not very good and b. He’s refusing a new contract and his agent was whoring him around Italy last month ?
Hardly whoring him around.. he's just looking out for his clients best interests.

And if he wasn't very good he wouldn't a be at United and B have Inter and Juventus sniffing around.

People need to learn a bit of patience.

When our team is fully fit in about a years time our front three will be Rash on one wing Martial in the centre and Greenwood on the other playing as forwards with James being our winger to alternate with them.
Chong is simply not much good but if we do sign him we have to get him on loan to a Championship club but I think most of those clubs would have better options than Chong anyway.

He's one of those who will have the odd half decent game but we will always be waiting for him to come good.

Basically a poor mans Keith Gillespie.

Let him go in the summer or he will be one of those average players that we can't seem to shift and clutter up the squad for years.

I still don't get how or why he gets more opportunities than Gomes when he's been actively negotiating with other clubs most of this season and almost certainly doesn't figure in the clubs future plans
Apparently Gomes is/has been so bad that he can't get minutes ahead of a want-away winger.

There´s no doubt that Chong is a talent, and maybe he one day will be able to beat his man also in adult football, but so far he is either 1: dribbling and losing the ball, or 2: running with the ball for 5 seconds before he passes it. I want none of that. If he wants to play for Inter U23 instead, maybe just go ahead and do so. Although at Inter, they prefer signing players like Young and Sanchez before giving the youth a chance. In their last EL match - where they were already 2 up from the away game, this was their line-up in the home match, by age:

……………… 34 ……………..

……… 31 … 32 … 34 ….....

29 … 23 … 35 … 28 … 27

…………. 26 … 31 ………….

But how knows, maybe they will pay him a little bit more.

Can’t say he’s ever impressed at senior level

I haven't seen a single instance of anything that warrants the hype.

From what I've witnessed he's not extremely fast, can't beat a man, not a good passer, doesn't have a good shot and runs down blind alleys constantly.

I take you have never watched him in the youth team?

Anyway, I think Chong is one we have to be patient with. He's quite raw but has the ability, no doubt. Nor Inter Milan or Solskjaer is stupid. Of course he's talented.

Yeah. Gomes has been pretty ineffective. Chong has been better... and that isnt exactly saying much.
This is simply not true, especially with respect to the senior team and also across the board. There are no hard facts under the sun to back this statement up. I've got nothing against Chong but he certainly hasn't been better than Gomes.

I have a feeling gomes isn't getting chances because he's already made up his mind and WILL be leaving. Chong is maybe still on the fence. Can't see why gomes wouldn't get a chance otherwise.

You can't, but maybe the coaches do?

This is one possibility but the problem with it is that Chong and his agent/handler have been more in the news about a potential move away from the club than Gomes' camp. I actually don't think it's fair to compare the two because they play in different positions. What Chong has going for him is the fact that there are no "old and establised players" who Ole trusts, apart from Rashford, who isn't really a winger. Maybe James, but he only joined the club this season. So Chong has a higher chance of being picked to play in either of the wing positions. Gomes on the other hand has been stubbornly placed behind Perreira, Lingard and Mata which means his chances of starting in a fitting, natural position (10 or attacking midfield) are rather slim, irrespective of the importance of a game.

Can't believe Inter have gone in for him.

He's pretty useless.
He's really not, he's taken time to adapt to the men's game like a lot of young players do. I've no doubts he'll go on to forge a good career for himself.

I trust the club on this. Honestly have not seen anything special with him and maybe the wages he is demanding isn't worth giving him.

he may go on and have a decent career, and there are lots of players who had inauspicious starts that have done well.

However, I’ve seen nothing to suggest that he’s a cert to have a good career. He’s just as likely to be playing in the Turkish second division in 3 years as he is for a decent top flight team.

Your post would imply that he's already adapted, he hasn't. He's just a good runner with quick feet. I really don't see what he's got.

I've said previously he's barely put a foot wrong in his last couple of outings, that to me suggests he's starting to find his feet. Just because you can't see what he offers or is capable of offering doesn't make him useless.

Romano talking about Chong:

What Inter really need is the defensive prowess of Jones and the next Xavi/Iniesta in the youthful Lingard and Periera.

Honestly if all these Inter stories are true, i wonder if we have them on some sort of reward card.

You're clearly a fan so I won't bother arguing. Can you answer me one question though? What has he done right? I'm not talking about worldies or nutmegs I'm talking about good crosses, intelligent passes, technical ability or tactical nous. If you can show me one good video clip I'll change my mind.

Look, I'm not going to spend my Friday night trawling through our matches to find you some clips. I'll link a video below with some of his stuff from pre-season, in just the first 2.5 minutes I've already found some demonstratably good crossing and dribbling ability. I decided not to include any of his outstanding performances in the EFL trophy but he was the catalyst to some very noteworthy wins against actual Football League teams. I don't think Chong's an amazing player by any stretch of the imagination but he's not useless and I'll defend that until I'm blue in the face.

1:09 - Won a penalty with an intelligent bit of skill.
1:41 - Beats three players and should've been given another penalty, the clip immediately after he's taken out by another good bit of skill.
2:10 - Beats his man and Greenwood hits the bar from a good cross in.

You can cherry pick moments all you want.. we have seen enough of him to know he isnt some special talent.. he might do well for himself.. sure. There is no shortage of players like him though..

Good punt for free.. Not worth crazy wages to keep him.. Not too fussed if he goes.

If he wanted to stay, would have been very happy.. If he wants to go.. fine.. we have a lot on our plates.. Chongs contract situation isnt worth the time.

We all love United
Are Inter seeing something in him that we don’t? It’s baffling really other than them hoping they are picking up a Pogba which Chong will never be anywhere near that level of talent

You're right. It's unnecessary trying to get players who aren't as good as Pogba.

Sell him and let him prosper elsewhere.

We would do better filling a squad position with a 7/10 a week player like Cantwell or Buendia.

From memory I think it was against Inter in preseason where Chong had by far his best performance in our first team. He may have made an impression and they think they can get him playing like that consistently.

Chong's agent must have planted stories of Inter to get him hyped up among utd fans.
