Sadly, skill and entertainment has been gradually replaced by athleticism and efficiency.

Everything is system this, system that and players are given very few tasks to do within that system, which can often be boring IMO. Hopefully we see some sort of resurgence of ability over physical prowess and we get some entertainers back.
At the top level, besides those mentioned, Firmino is just that - a player who just loves to play, pulls out the flicks and tricks even at the most crucial times.
But of course he isn't anywhere at the same level at Ronaldinho.

I would say he is more of a hybrid of the two styles. He has those clever, deft touches but he is also very efficient and the epitome of a system player.

because he didn’t pay his taxes in Brazil and they confiscated his passport.
Apparently he had his Brazilian passport returned and he used it to leave Brazil. Then he showed his Paraguayan one once he arrived in the country. Bizzare story, which I imagine has more to it than is being released.

Why do people assume He's poor now just because He looks older and carried a fake passport?
Pretty sure his net worth is at least $100 million.

He's officially broke, that's the source of his problems with Brazilian justice. He still has generous sponsors though and may have quite a bit of cash hidden somewhere.

You think so? IMO, there are many players at the moment who like doing a nice skill move at the highest level. Neymar, Mbappe, Thiago, Isco, Brandt, Sancho, Vinicius, Coutinho, Pogba, Firmino ...

Do you mean visa maybe? I’m not too clued up on international travel law but I always just assumed that no one would be able to leave their country without a passport.
For most South Americans traveling between South American countries, government issued ID is all you need.

Highest peak of any player ever.
Not even close. 2005/06 Dinho was something else but not better than Messi/CR7/Maradona/Luis Ronaldo at their peak. He's more on the Peak Torres/Suarez level, maybe slightly above them.

Torres/Suarez? Come on. Ronaldinho was in the tier just below Maradona, Pele, Messi, Cristiano, R9 etc. That's not where Torres and Suarez belong.

If you want to compare him, I'd go with Zidane. Those two are probably the most gifted players on the ball ever.

Agree with this 100%, it’s less of the beautiful game these days. Flair and entertainment are secondary to stats and productivity.

Not having that. This guy at his very peak stands alongside Messi as the best in the last 30 years

Watching Ronaldinho play always reminds me of why I love this game. Genius and passion, not a football machine.

Yeah maybe you are right. I probably got a bit annoyed at the "greatest peak ever" argument and threw out there and equally bad argument.

Ill correct myself, id say there is a tier or two between players like peak Torres/Suarez/Romario and the absolute GOAT tier where Messi and Pele are, arguably Maradona.

Between those two there are two tiers where you can put peak Ronaldinho on depending on how much you like no-look passes and FIFA STREET skills. I would say the peak of lesser flashy players but that excelled on different areas are up there with Ronaldinho, players like Van Basten, Zlatan, Zidane as you say, etc. Ronaldinho is tier 3 for me.

He was amazing on 2005/2006, but you can probably make an argument for Messi having 5 or 6 better seasons than that one and at least another handful of equally good seasons as that one, and im talking about goals scored, assists, trophies won, dribbles completed, etc.

As i said, Ronaldinho probably has got Messi on the no-look pass department and controlling the ball with the ass or back or whatever but other than that, id say a good number of players have had higher peaks than him.

I'm sorry, your first post was nonsense as you admitted, but I still disagree with this one.

Seems like your speaking about peak season. In which case you be correct in that Messi certainly has had multiple better seasons (stats prove it). But I wasn't actually talking about form over a whole season, so peak perhaps wasn't the right word - maybe more 'pinnacle'?

Look at some of his best ever matches in isolation and I've never seen a player dominate a game like he did. Not even Messi or Ronaldo.

We often refer to those two's best games as being like 'men playing with boys'. Ronaldinho was 'a man taking the piss out of boys'.

Well, if we are talking about a one game peak then id say its just a matter of opinion then, its really hard to judge. With that being said, i really doubt anyone can come close to a "one game peak" of Messi or Maradona.

You could probably find close to 50 performances of both Messi and Maradona that fit the description of "a man taking the piss out of boys". Cant speak of Pele because ive seen very little of him but im sure the same could be said for him. Cruyff comes to mind too, the guy could dribble past an entire midfield and defense by himself at absolute ridiculous speed, or put a 3/4 of a field pass with the outside of his "weak" foot.

Judging by absolute pinnacles gets really tough because plenty of brilliant players have had games where they did pretty much everything perfect. Ill go as far as giving you this, R10's pinnacle is tied up there with probably dozens of other brilliant players. I just really dont see it when you say that pinnacle Ronaldinho was a better football player than pinnacle Lio Messi, theres nobody on history of football that can say that.

Messi is probably better but I'd watch Ronaldinho over Lionel any day of the week.

My favorite player of that era who never played for us. No one comes close to his entertainment value.

He was a great player and excellent to watch when he stuck to more natural improvised skills, but i was never that into the rehearsed street skillz and stepover heavy side of his play so many love.

He was the cornerstone of the Barca revolution. He was terrorizing teams who would put three men on him while Deco Giuly and Eto had lots of time and space to do their stuff. Not that three men were enough to mark him out of the game!

This is the perfect example of different strokes for different folks. I never thought I’d read an opinion like this. Ronaldinho in his prime was on a different planet to anybody I’ve seen, he brought the entertainment value and was able to mix it with goals and assists. But like I say, everybody has a opinion and preferences on the style of play they like

I haven't seen a player like that who created in interest to the game such as people who weren't fans of it appreciated his skills. Ronaldinho was beyond football, he was magic.

An absolute artist and you could see that he was doing it with such fun and happiness. There haven't been any after him.
