Football has to take a back seat until this Virus is done with. I can't travel anywhere while it's still around, and I'm sure there are many like me. I doubt if this will all pass before the summer, and we could lose some of our loved ones if we are not careful.
Let's put football on the back burner for now, and think of the older generation and help them.

I don't think this is a good solution. The players wont really have a proper vacation in this mess, but even if they did you'd end up with a season that's essentially 25% longer than usual, followed by the Euros. That will not be good for the players.

Even if we sped things up by playing 2 games a week, we're still looking at a whole month of football. If we do this and combine it with good luck(football already from July), the players would still only get 2 weeks off before the next season.

And then there's the transfer mess...
I admire how much you care about multi-millionaires who play football for a living. If situation becomes better, there is no reason why the season shouldn't be completed. The economic issues which an incomplete season would cause would either trickle down to lower league clubs or the organizations where the people who would suffer would be the regular folk.

As more and more healthy people recover hysteria will die down. Who knows what is going to happen next flue season
Yeah China is still on lockdown and its been nearly 4 months now. If China were functioning normally now I'd be more inclined to believe that normalcy will return by the summer.

I think at this stage, everything has to take a back seat until this is done.

Well duh.

My point is that the football is very unlikely to start up before July. And that's a fairly optimistic scenario. So my question is: how do we finish this season and not ruin the next? The way I see it, it's not possible. You feck up one of the two(or both).

It just makes more sense to make this season void, unless things magically improve faster than projected.

No it doesn't. We have to stop analyzing everything from a 'Liverpool wins the league' lens. There are teams like Sheffield United, Leicester and the numerous promotion contenders who may not have another season like this. If it means having a shorter break, then arrangements would need to be made to address that. If the virus causes the season to be cancelled, that's fair. But if cutting the break short and making the next one shorter (removing Carabao for a season for example) can help in completion of this one, then it should be done for the sake of the economic impact it could have on the teams across the leagues as well as the other stakeholders directly/indirectly impacted by this.

No surprises here. Right decision in the end. Wonder what will happen with Big Mick if Ireland manage to qualify?

What do we do with player contracts and the transfer market? How short summer break are you OK with? 2 weeks? 1 week? No break at all?

You could also argue that the season should be void simply from the fact that the break was so disruptive. By continuing after a sudden break of 2-3 months, you essentially punish the teams that were in a good flow and would likely have capitalized on it. And then there's the fitness aspect.

No solution is ideal, but I think this season should be void if it's not "solved" before June. But regardless of what happens: someone is going to be pissed. For good reason.

Football doesn't even matter anymore for me
I know what you mean, but I think it’d do everyone good to have a bit of normal life distracting us from everything else for 90 mins a week if it’s feasable to play

Looks like the authorities are going to listen to Klopp and reduce the amount of football being played, giving the players a real chance to rest over the spring and summer. I'm sure he will be on board with it.

Champions league postponed till the 27th june.....just cancel it for this season. Still plenty of teams left in it so at least it's fair.

Why the Hollywood level of drama :D :D :D

Announcing the decisions, Aleksander Čeferin said:

"We are at the helm of a sport that vast numbers of people live and breathe that has been laid low by this invisible and fast-moving opponent. It is at times like these that the football community needs to show responsibility, unity, solidarity and altruism.

Why do you assume this virus will be gone by the summer?
I've no idea when this virus would be gone. No one would.

What I said was Uefa did so to give the leagues a window to possibly finish in the summer. Of course only if the situation would allow that by then.

There is only two months left till June. If they don't postpone Euro to 2021, then it means 99 % the leagues can't be completed, even if the virus is gone by then since all the players must be playing in Euro. Then comes the 2021 season. No one would know when the virus is gone but not in the next two months for sure.

First two countries that come to mind this could potentially be hugely beneficial to are England and the Netherlands.

Both dealing with some key injuries at the moment, and both have some very promising young players who are likely to be better prepared for a tourney a year from now.

Also seems both have some key players who have turned a bit shit in the leagues and now have ample time to turn that around by the time 2021 rolls around.

That's bullshit. They should refund us and allow our successful ballots to still stand.. and essentially repay in 2021.
Why? You’ve got the option of cancellation if you can’t make it, so if you still want to go next year then paying now means feck all. Infact, spreads the cost!

£500+ obviously means quite a bit to a lot of people’s cash flow.

Paying the entire £500+ up front two years in advance doesn’t spread the cost either. It loads the cost entirely up front.

Get a grip. If you want a refund, than ask for one and give up your ticket. What your asking for is an admin nightmare. You’ve already paid for your tickets, can’t see what your problem is.

doesn’t negatively affect cash flow, it’s already been paid for and budgeted for. You are spreading out the cost, as presumably your not now paying for travel, accommodation, beers and a programme this year, instead it will be next year.

I think Eurocopa, Copa America, etc, should not exist anymore, because those competitions are not the apex of football in any form whatsoever. We can see even in the World Cup, that none of those NTs would win the Champions League.
I think all the winners we’ve seen over the years, would be more than capable of winning the CL.

I have read that it is supposed to get worse. Conflicting stories everywhere.
Literally everywhere, I’ve just seen that China have closed their last Coronavirus hospital as their aren’t enough cases now to support it. Could be BS and as you say, conflicting stories.

Same in all other far east countries. The cases that they are getting in are from foreigners travelling there. This suggests two things. Either all these countries have done an amazing job containing the virus, or probably more likely that as the world warms up the virus goes into retreat. Unfortunately, even if true, without a vaccine, it will be making an unfortunate return later in the year.

Couldn’t agree more!

There are things more important than football.

People should ALL take this very seriously and follow the containment steps advised by the government including social distancing.

A lot of lads where I work are just carrying on as normal so I lost my head with them yesterday.

Young people may selfishly think ‘ah it won’t kill me’ but they don’t think of the very real ripple effect it has if they recklessly pass it on.

People not so young and healthy will die.

Yes, That's right @RUCK4444 . Some young people think that they are immune to it and ignore the precautions. They really don't understand the harm they could do to their older relations and family.
