I would love him at United. As mentioned this signing would really show that we turned a corner with signings. We should really go for him and not wait a further two years till his price has doubled.
I like his energy and boy is he fast. He is still young so I see him stepping it up in the future. Would prefer him over an attacking midfielder if we are getting in a RW who is ready to play at he top.

By the way: his injury isn't as serious as first feard. He is still in pain but no structural damage on his knee.

Fred and Zakaria in the '2' of the 4231 with Bruno and the advanced role would be a quality and balanced midfield.

This should be our priority in midfield not Grealish/Maddison. An incoming RW (hopefully Sancho) and possibly another striker and we'd be one of the top 3 teams in the country.
I’d be happy if all our summer business consisted of was a top class DM and Sancho (which is easier said than done) our team would look very well balanced. By the sounds of it this Zakaria fits the bill, although I wouldn’t be against Thomas Partey either.

Positive that we're being linked with him. We seem to be at least be in the conversation for a lot of promising talent right now, which is good to see.

No brianer, he is top class DM. Zakaria and SMT would give us next 10 years.

Zakaria/Sancho/Upamacano would be a great summer with Grealish if Pogba is leaving.

My Fantasy

Sell -- Pogba(100M)+DeGea(70M- if Madrid comes in)+Lingard(15M)+Perrera(10)M+Rojo(10M)+Smalling(20M) = +225M and release Jones and Alexis
Buy -- Sancho(100M)+Grealish(60M)+Zakaria(50)+Upamacano(50M) = -260M

+225-260=-35M Budget our team will be like this

---------------------------------------------------Martial/Mason---------------------------------------

------- Rashford/James----------------- Bruno/Mata-------------Sancho/Grealish-----

--------------------------Fred/Matic-------------------------Zakaria/SMT------------------------------

----Shaw/Williams--------Maguire/Lindelof------Upamacano/Eric------AWB/Dalot---

--------------------------------------------------Henderson/Romero-------------------------------------------

You're right. Our priority this summer should be DM ST and RW but one other overlooked priority is a back up AM. If Bruno gets injured we are back to Lingard or Pereira, we need a back up AM that is good enough to fill in for Bruno.

Yeah for sure, maybe Buendia on the cheap would be a shrewd squad signing after Norwich go down.

Don't think someone like Grealish would be content to be rotational.

We should do a raid on Germany summer for Sancho, Dayot Upamecano and Zakaria and we will be set. Maybe get in another striker if Ughalo is not signed on a permanent basis.

He’d be some upgrade on Matic who’s been good again once he got back into the team to be fair. Age is against him. Zakaria looks to me like a totally different kind of CM to anyone else currently at the club. He seems like a better tackler and he’s much more mobile than Matic. He can also hit a pass. He looks very talented.

I think Zakaria is gonna be one of the 3 main targets for the summer window.

Why do Liverpool need a defensive midfielder? Then again they're apparently going for Sancho too who they don't really need either.

Liverpool have more than enough options and I see this as a ploy by someone to up the price. My guess would be the Gladbach DoF, Eberl or the players agent.

Klopp did try and sign him 2 years ago though but it would make little sense for him right now.

I admit that I have only seen him once or twice, but he struck me as very similar to Wiliam Carvalho. Never really seems in a hurry, doesn't really give the impression of "workhorse" or "all-action."

Thats not for me. I want a cover every blade of grass, bleed for the cause badass leader-of-men as my center mid.

I want a Patrick Viera-clone. I don't want a CM that can ever be described as languid. Thats just me.

Word on the street is they might cut their losses on Naby Keita during the next window.

Keita and Zakaria are very different though. If they sell Keita as rumored, I'd think that Klopp would look to bring in another creative/goalscoring midfielder which is the one department they have been lacking in the past few seasons (though Wijnaldum and Ox are quite decent in the scoring regard). With Fabinho and Henderson there as very capable DMs, I wouldn't see the point of bringing in Zakaria.

I thought that was what Minamino was for.

Anyway, can see Zakaria fancy his chances more against McTominay and Matic than Fabinho and Henderson. Hopeful.

Zakaria had covered more ground than any Gladbach player as of January 2020. I haven't checked the stats since but to lead in such a category playing under Marco Rose is very impressive as far as covering every blade of grass.

Extending the contract of Matic will probably mean the end of our search for a DM and will give more time to see if Garner can fill the role in time.

I think our search for a DM hinges on whether or not Pogba stays this summer, if he does then I still expect to see links to the likes of Partey/Zakaria as see that being our second priority to a RW this summer, however if he goes then see the focus to turn to AM targets such as Grealish/Maddison instead.

hmmm suggests that Pogba could be staying and we are targeting a Zakaria/Partey instead of a Grealish but could end up be proved completely wrong and we try and sign both types of midfield players in this window

If Pogba stays or goes he is not going to affect the game time of Matic as Pogba will not be played in a DM position.
And in my opinion if Pogba stays then we will not even go for another midfielder as Garner will come into the first team more regularly in the Cup games if he improves to the level that he has been touted to do so.
Ole has stated on numerous occasions that he wants Gomes to commit to the club long term so that is another midfielder in the mix who is already at the club.

Well I think the standard line from most clubs is:
'We are always in the market for quality players that will improve our club'
Whatever happens after that is pure speculation and lots of people speculating on pure speculation.
The word 'certain' is used in this case, so it seems alittle bit more than just speculation to me.

Utdreport keeps putting up The Athletic as a source and when they do, I always try to find the article but never do. It seems as if they are regularly making up stuff and putting The Athletic as a source.

I wish utdreport was banned in here and that post from their twitter is deleted.

The rumours all point towards what I expected, Pogba gone in the summer (replaced like-for-like by Fernandes). Let's say, for argument's sake, we get £100m for him. I think we'll extend Matic's contract, sign Zakaria or Partey for CDM and sign another #8 or attacking orientated midfielder like Jack Grealish.

Unfortunately, I still don't think the club will then splash the required money for a top-class RW. I think that will be earmarked as the major transfer activity for summer 2022 as I think our budget will go on the midfield situation and making Igahlo's move permanent, most likely.

Say we sell Pogba for £100m, spend that on Zakaria and hopefully Grealish. Then spend £120m on Sancho and a possible £15m on Ighalo.

Then for further sales, I don’t think it’s out of the realms to suggest we can’t make at least £40m from Jones, Smalling and Lingard. Even if we get £10m, £25m and whatever Lingard. I think it’s achievable. That’ll likely decrease net spend to around £90m odd.

I feel like Pogba will stay. So the only way we are signing Grealish is if Sancho isn't coming. But Zakaria would be my first pick as a DM.
