An attempt to relive season 2007-08

So earlier on today, as I reached new depths of boredom and football cold turkey, I got to thinking it might be good to watch a season back without knowing all the scores. Obviously I'll remember the finals or the most important games but I miss just watching the regular games and not knowing exactly what's coming so I want to try and recreate it a small bit if I can!

As much as I'd love to have done 1998/99, I couldn't find enough matches to make it worthwhile so I've opted for 2007/08 instead. There are some games I couldn't find decent footage of but there are plenty of full matches here and some of them were bound to be crackers knowing that team! If anyone has or can find full (or better quality) versions of any of the games I've missed, let me know below and I'll update the OP.

I suspect I might have spoilt it a bit for myself in hunting down all these videos and checking they were the right ones / quality etc, but hopefully some of you might be able to get some enjoyment out of it during these long, footballless days and weeks!

Happy watching!

Great idea! Although I can probably remember most of the scores, so no surprise

Excellent work mate. I’ll have to check this all out when I get the time. One of my favourite ever seasons, although I have a slight preference for the season before it, even though we didn’t win the CL, there was just something special about that season.

Agree, hopefully someone will make this one as well :)
I was searching for 06/07 match highights on youtube a while ago and it was frustratingly scarce, low quality and/or short.

I love it when people go out of their way to please others like this and ask nothing in return.

Thanks!

This is great, nice one.

What a season this was.

My first year at Uni - going to the pub getting pissed and watching United was still a bit of a novelty to me at that point!

Yeah, had a thick head on, just saw 720p and presumed you had to pay for it, doh

...., the higher the resolution of a TV, the sharper the picture, and the higher the price tag. 720p has an image resolution of 1280 pixels by 720 lines. ... Its quality is not much better than 720p TVs. 1080p has a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, and it is a progressive scan display rather than interlaced.

I just bought the dvd last week. So I’m looking forward to watching that season. How amazing was that squad. Absolute perfection.

I didn't realise it at the time, but this was the glory age of sport for me. I was in Uni in Limerick, with season tickets at Thomond Park for an amazing Munster side that won 2 European Cups in 3 years and United were beating anyone you put in front of them, scoring goals with an urgency, fluidity and panache few club sides have ever displayed.

For the teams I support, those 3 or 4 years, from 2006 to 2009 saw:

3 Premier League Titles
2 League Cups
1 Champions League
1 Club World Cup

2 Heineken Cups
1 Pro 14 Title

1 Six Nations Grand Slam
1 Triple Crown

Padraigh Harrington won his 3 major championships between 2007 and 2008 and I even backed the only two winners I've had in 30+ years of trying in the Grand National during those years. First Hedgehunter and then Comply or Die!

If you'd told me that 14 years later that United and Munster would be so far off the pace in 2020 I'd have laughed at you. I should have enjoyed it more at the time!

On an old hard drive I have all the matches from 2010 till I think 2014? I gave up archiving moyes season when it was so dreadful. I'm sure others have done the same at some points. I would absolutely love to contribute to some sort of fan archive assuming united themselves don't do something like this.

Quite odd the team don't say add full matches on an archive the public can view after 5+ season so or something surly the club could easily make another 20 quid or so of a million fans by offering this...

Just finished September. I'm starting to suspect we may be on to something with this side lads.

Probably the season I remember most vividly.

What a ride it was - great title race between us, Arsenal (the early favorites), and Chelsea (dead and buried early on, only to slowly re-emerge as a threat).

Quite the meltdowns in here after our poor start too - 2 draws and 1 loss (to City) in our first 3 games, having lost Rooney to a broken foot in our opener.

I remember watching MUTV after we lost to Chelsea on 23rd April and was in shock for the amount of abuse fergie was getting, for fielding a weaker team, by utd fans.
3 days later we beat Barcalona to reach the CL final.

The post-match threads here after the 0-0 draw to Barca and after the loss to Chelsea were unbearable.

I think about this season and the one image that comes to mind is Cristiano. I mean its remarkable because you'd think it would be the trophies that come to mind but Cristiano is going to have such a legacy and this is the season that really launched Cristiano from talented winger to the machine he is today. Not that we were a one man team, but lets not forget in 2008, a winger scoring 42 goals was the stuff of legend.

Also probably our best kit in the last 20 years.

Rewatched that Barca 2nd leg semi.

1 thing that is super evident -
It's so sad to see how much lack of success effects the crowd over time :(
Almost every single time we came into Barca's box the fans ooooh'd and aaaaaah'd, expecting a goal every opportunity we ventured into the oppos 18 area. Man, miss the feck out of that confidence in the crowd, let alone the players.

A big highlight of the season was the 6-0 Newcastle win. How the hell the first half ended 0-0 and the team just pulled 6 goals out of the hat in the second ? Legendary.

Oversimplifying it a bit maybe but this season was where we combined great football with a kind of pragmatism/efficiency I think. The style of football was actually more exciting in the season before (06/07) but it was a better kind of football than 08/09. Certainly the games in Europe against Roma, Lyon and Barca and the performance at Anfield showed that we were just such a mentally strong and tactically flexible team.

My favourite season. So many amazing memories culminating with winning the Champions League on my birthday.

The away game against Roma is under-rated this season for how mature as a team this side had become. The 2-1 defeat the year before gets forgotten about because of the 7-1 but the first leg we seemed to totally lose the plot. Here we were so controlled in Rome we could actually rest players in the second leg of the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Also the away game versus Derby was probably one of the most nailbiting games of the season for some insane reason.

You think we lost the plot in Rome in 06/07?

Also, were they in our group in 07/08 or am I imagining things?
