The Roma games in 07/08 are kind of hilarious looking back because we met each other 4 times that season (and two times the year before) and we were just ridiculously efficient and powerful in all four games. Must have been extremely demoralising for them and they were actually a very good side with some great players.

I'm sure their manager said that we were more Italian they they were or that we were the most Italian team in the competition or something to that effect. It was an obvious compliment to the defence and organisation. I remember Rio in particular being outstanding in some of those matches.

The away game against Roma is under-rated this season for how mature as a team this side had become. The 2-1 defeat the year before gets forgotten about because of the 7-1 but the first leg we seemed to totally lose the plot. Here we were so controlled in Rome we could actually rest players in the second leg of the quarter finals of the Champions League.

Also the away game versus Derby was probably one of the most nailbiting games of the season for some insane reason.
Gary Neville made his return after almost a year out in this game, in midfield.

That Derby game, Ronaldo had something like 6 great chances before scoring. And his celebration

Yes unforgettable that. Even after so many years.

You think we lost the plot in Rome in 06/07?

Also, were they in our group in 07/08 or am I imagining things?
Yeah things went sideways when Scholes got sent off for two stupid fouls and I remember thinking we were lucky to get away with only 2-1. Then the second leg invalidated the entire game anyway.

I think they were, seem to remember us playing a reserve side in Rome in the final group game.

Rio

Could have been 4-0 on the counter. We were way too strong for them.
