Not much information is out there about this game. I've seen team sheets that are not entirely accurate though — there's some weird players in the second half, one of them being, probably, Ole Sørensen... Yashin was brilliant as usual. The scenes after the game are a must-see.

Mazzola was 30 here by the way. Amazing longevity right from early 60s to early 70s
Great video; the practice talk between French players says it all. Also, football was much more fun when the Brazil NT was still great.

I love watching Savićević at his best, such a devastating player. Prosinečki was the best player on the field that day though, absolutely unplayable.

Quite a stupid comment that. Outrunning everyone else on the pitch doesn't make him that fast. Brilliant dribbler but I'd hardly list him in the pacy lot.

Not the best pitch for his trickery but interesting watch to see him in a more defensive role.
Set up 2 goals and took part in a third one against Schulz/Overath/Seeler's West Germany. He was already 33 and played quite a lot deeper than usual (by that I mean his 1962 World Cup, as we hardly have any more footage of him).

Some nice dribbling runs, a great overhead kick attempt and, obviously, the winning goal — Luigi Riva's first game of the 1970 World Cup qualification cycle.
He would score in all 4 games in the group — 7 goals overall!
Quite an interesting game, as in the second time you can see (if you watch the full 90 minutes, of course, there's only glimpses of that in the compilation) Rivera and Mazzola playing together quite comfortably. Also there's a surprising amount of Italian fans in Cardiff — and there's even a huge banner dedicated specially for Riva, quite an unusual sight for the 60's.

Ruud Gullit, sold by AC Milan because they thought that he was past it, faces his former team. Sampdoria concedes 2 early goals, and they now have to overcome this deficit playing against the greatest defensive unit of all-time. Surely, it's all over for blucerchiati? Watched that match during the Serie A draft a few years back to make a video for Mancini. Sensational comeback and Gullit was class. Such a unique player.
Very impressed. His vision and ability to pick a pass is exceptional.
Was just taking a look at my channel randomly and Carlos Alberto's entire compilation of the 1970 World Cup randomly got unblocked
Footage can be a bit shaky at times. Has to be up there with Dani Alves, Brehme and Junior as one of the greatest 'playmaking fullbacks' ever.
Edit: Looks like Fifa monetized it. Much rather they do that than needlessly blocking videos.

and what a better way to finish it then a great performance in a European Cup Final! Zvezda manager Petrovic said he isnt going into finals to play football, he is going for the win and he did it. Uncharacteristic performance from Zvezda where they let Marseille to dominate the whole game while they were waiting for the counters, it has to be said that while the plan worked in the end it wasnt executed well as Marseille created number of great chances while Zvezda used the ball poorly apart from the maestro and Belodedici who was once again colossal at the back.
Think i underestimated before how much Prosinecki actually ran at his peak, probably because i got to watch him "live" at back of his career after probably 100k cigarettes.

Both Boli and Mozer look quality and underrated to me, with Mozer seeming a class above due to his ability on the ball. Shall give some of these Prosinecki videos a watch soon!
Absolutely amazing performance, shades of Baresi vs Brazil in 94....
In the sea of underrated defenders he almost leads the pack, just that tournament alone with Zvezda should be enough for him to get picked regularly. Instrumental performances game after game, the fact that both Savicevic and Pancev(lol) were in the top 3 of Balon dOr while he was eight i think is just a confirmation how that award was a joke long before the modern days how many like to believe. Adore both Savicevic and Prosinecki but he was better and more consistent.
Yeah, he doesn't feature even nearly enough, he needs a proper campaign-manager
Belodedici was a beast and probably suffers his reputation from not settling at a turbulent Valencia once he moved west and then making some poor moves after that. Another interesting Romanian nt defender to me is Costica Stefanescu from the 70s and early 80s. He seems to be often rated as more talented than the next generation of Popescu and Belodedici and their most complete ever defender, but is even more obscure internationally due to spending his whole career in Romania. Not much footage of him easily available, mostly national team games and the ones that i've watched years ago i wasn't paying much attention to him, but when you see how good those other two players were he must have been gifted.
I dont know about comparing Belodidici to Savicevic/Prosinecki etc when talking about things like consistency though, as imo centre and attacking midfield are harder positions to play and be consistent in than CB/sweeper especially in the organisational/using the ball aspects of the game where i find the difference significant. Even though there can be few things better to see than a good creator from defence adding extra control to a game.
The former need much more constant 360 degree awareness opposed to 95% of the time having everything play out in front of you when you're on the ball and being able to pick your options for an interception and pass from that widely viewable canvas. There's good reason you see an occasional player of those positions falling back and playing a sweeper/organising cb role like Olaf Thon, Matthaus and Sauzee or deeper lying playmaker role to a still good level for a few seasons later in their career, but not nearly as much the other way. This is maybe an idosyncratic view of things though, as i've always viewed it easier to defend and play from the back than be creative and effective in attack.
