Realised this morning that you can make a pretty decent team now from Dutch players who have played for United (12 total with Raimond van der Gouw lonely on the bench). I guess LVG as manager with Meulensteen as assistant!

I wonder how this compares with other countries? I guess this can only be done for the home nations and France?

Maybe we can extend the definition to somebody who would have qualified for the nation by heritage and therefore could have played for the nation internationally.

Thought I'd give a French 11 a go:

Barthez

Blanc - Silvestre - Evra

Bellion - Pogba - Schneiderlin - Obertan

Saha - Cantona - Martial

The only countries you can actually do this for are England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland, Ireland, France and Netherlands. The country with the next highest amount of United players is Brazil with 7. Then you've got Belgium, Argentina, Portugal and Spain with 6.

Good team, which are all pretty much contemporaries.

Gets better if you add in Robson for Butt etc.

The English one is actually really difficult, and I’d have to put a lot of thought into it, but I don’t have the time, so here is a first stab, and I’m sure I’ve forgotten some great players.

GK - Stepney
RB - G.Neville
CB - Ferdinand
CB - Edwards
LB - Bryne

Mid - Beckham
Mid - Robson
Mid - Scholes

Fwd - Charlton
Fwd - Rooney
Fwd Tommy Taylor

the only position we don’t have a truly great English player is in goal.

Romero
Rafael - Rojo - Heinze - Fabio
Valencia - Fred - Veron - Di Maria
Yorke - Tevez

Subs: Varela, Anderson, Pereira, Kleberson, Forlan, Falcao, Sanchez
Yorke is not South American

Bebe
Alright, 6 a side then! 131 formation with everyone's job to feed the Bebe.

J.Pereira
Dalot
Nani Fernandes Ronaldo
Bebe no.9

Angel Gomes on the bench of course.

Pique
Herrera Mata
Was Forlan ever eligible for Spanish citizenship? Or Falcao?

Italy too maybe.

Taibi
Darmian
Rossi Petrucci Maiorano
Macheda

Fornasier too of course! Probably some others who didn't cut the mustard?

Not sure if Yorke is classed as from North or South America but nice!

I would agree with that apart from Brian Robson in midfield and not Rashford quite yet.
Yeah forgot Tommy Taylor. Knew I would have forgotten someone, so him ahead of rashford. Robson is a good shout but not ahead of the other 3 for me personally. Duncan Edwards was a shocking omission by me as well.

If we're going back far enough then the two big names missing would be Jackie Carey and Shay Brennan, I guess. I don't know enough about either to confidently fit them in somewhere though.

I know he had a shambolic game but Fergie offered him a deal and he later made a Ligue 1 team of the year so I'd have Prunier as a CB, Evra as the LWB and probably just play Obertan as the RWB and bench Bellion since Obertan is at least used to playing wide.
