..........................................GREEN SMILEY...............................................................................................2MUFC0

TEAM 2MUFC0

The team is based around the 2 of the greatest modern players & goalscorers supplied by one of the greatest passers of all time. They are supported by a hardworking selfless striker gluing it all together.

The direct RW version of Messi is being used here, picking up the ball and driving at the opposition and combining fluidly with Suarez and Platini . The goal machine version of Cristiano is utilised in this team, playing higher up on the pitch awaiting the service from Platini, Suarez and Messi. The aim of the front three is to be fluid as possible, with Messi/Ronaldo interchanging with Suarez. Platini will enjoy the movement in front of him allowing him to pick out passes as well as playing off the front 3. All 3 all have a variation in their game (pure goal scoring, play making, movement, pressing CF creating space) creating a deadly combination. The front 3 have a staggering 1,880 career goals and 770 career assists between them, it would be hard pressed for even the best defenders ever to stop them scoring.

The attack is supported by 2 robust midfielders in Bastian and Big Dunc providing the perfect base for the attackers. The defence is setup as a standard back 4, although Sammer liked to surge forward it won't be so much of an issue here as Edwards was adept at playing as a CB so can fill in when required. Sammer is also supported by two defensively astute players in Kohler and Cole ensuring there is adequate cover when he does push up. Both Alberto and Cole provide support down the wings for the attackers and world class defensive cover, the goal is guarded by the dominant Schmeichel making it difficult for the opposition to score.

TEAM GREEN SMILEY

4-3-3 with two attacking full-backs and Desailly sitting in front of defense

While Facchetti moves up with the ball to overload left flank, Schnellinger could move to left-back position, while Desailly drops deep to cover as CB

Netto and Tardelli forms a solid midfield pair to support front three. Both posses quality in defense and attack

Cruyff as false nine, alongside Eusebio and Best upfront

Best vs. Cole is probably the biggest mismatch

Other than that, it is up to anyone's preference really
Cole has a resume full of handling the best wingers of his time, I don't see him as a weak link at all. KHS imo is the one to target esp on the counters when the full back bombs forward. It would also be better to have a different profile wide forward instead of Best in this system imo, otherwise a very good team.

I love what GS has done this draft all round and his front three look mint.

However @2mufc0 seems just too strong at this stage. Platini/Messi/Cristiano with Suarez up front who is a very good fit and that German spine is

Fair play to 2mufc0. He has used the best versions of Ronaldo and Messi to work with Platini. This will require a lot of thought.

There's only a few left backs that I would've preferred there in his place for this particular job — Maldini, Facchetti... that's pretty much it. While I obviously rate the likes of Krol and Nilton higher than Cole overall, I'm not sure that defensively they're much of an upgrade on him.

it's a humdinger of a game. Not just two stacked teams, but designed with care and countering each other really well.

Love both attacks, gorgeous choice of personnel from both managers.

Yes. In a pure defensive abilities ranking, I'd rate Cole very highly in the all-time stakes, probably higher than quite a few others who have better all-round games.

You know what, picking Schnellinger at CB ahead of the likes of Ruggeri on the bench, or Desailly who can be moved back (with Makelele on the bench) looked like a weird move to me at start, but it is a truly genius move that ties so many things together, its just awesome.

1. Gives Facchetti the freedom to shoot up. Schnellinger can seamlessly cover at LB which is required against Messi. First player whose usage he mazimizes.
2. Lets Desailly seamlessly drop into defense by creating room and demands him to contribute both in the hole and in defense (perfect against the likes of Platini). Gives Desailly a really meaty role and second player whose usage he maximizes.
3. Then there is Netzer who I wondered as to why he does not start ahead of Netto. Desailly dropping in defense leaves the midfield with Netto and Tardelli who on their own are a pretty good two man pivot. Couple more players whose responsibilities he bumps.
4. And then if Cruyff was the manager, no way is he picking Ruggeri ahead of Schnellinger. Loved both of his CB's to be able to contribute on the ball.

All in all, an inspiring pick in my eyes, one that we don't see often around here, so big thumbs up from me.

On 2mufc0's team, its close to perfect. Almost crazy from GS to block Jairzinho instead of Platini. Messi and CR simply dont work without someone like Platini there.

Personally I rate Ruggeri more at CB than Schnellinger and as general defensive ability, but that makes sense.

Why use Bonhof as RB instead of Briegel?

Also thought that GS would go w/ attack of

----------- Eusebio
Giggs --- Cruyff -- Best

----Desailly -- Tardelli

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
Guess I'll sit out, because I often have trouble when setups become too goaty. Struggle to create a realistic image of the forward lines in my head.
Aye, I'm terrible at pulling the trigger and voting in general when a match looks tight, but it's compounded at this stage of drafts when both teams are GOAT-laden. Going for 2mufc0 here though, as Cruyff and Best has always struck me as problematic as far as GOAT-partnerships go, and outside of the forward lines he probably nicks it in terms of quality too.

Don't like Briegel at back four. Think he is better used with his physical attributes in 3 CB formation

Always go 4-3-3 with Cruyff :)

Physically Briegel looks a good match for Ronaldo.

Good game @green_smiley scoreline is a bit harsh imo.

Thanks for running the draft @GodShaveTheQueen didn't agree with some of the reinforcement methods & 2 leg ties but overall there have been more positives with the draft esp with the Coropa league idea. Btw are we having a super cup game?

That was optional from the start depending on if both the winners are interested.

The rules will be wacky again, so decide at your own risk.

Below are the rules I had in mind -

1. It will be an NASL style all stars game.
2. There were 8 teams in each league.
3. The winning manager of each league will chose 2 outfield players each from the initial squads of the finalists (2*2=4)
4. He will choose 1 outfield player each from initial squads of the rest of the teams in the league (1*6=6)
5. He can choose any goalkeeper he wishes from the league (1*1=1)
6. Total 4+6+1 = 11 players
7. And eventually we have a Champions League all stars vs Coropa League all stars super cup game
8. Decide to not play the super cup

 I honestly thought it would be a fun exercise and finally the GOAT fest the managers would have wanted (and deserved), albeit with completely new teams again
I think this whole draft is superb. You stick to your policy of managers need to change formations. The CL and EL idea is superb.

Just do the SuperCup your way then. What's holding it?

Cheers mate. Really been mixed response but I loved running it.

Up to the managers if they want to play one more game. Wouldn't be surprised if there is some fatigue after 5 games each already.
