Dude you mentioned Konate name in Sancho, Havertz, Matic, Pochettino thread. None of those four threads are talking about CB. Konate’s chance to join United is almost zero this summer, I had explained it before that your alternative isn’t going to happen, we aren’t going to sign a young centre back who barely even play this season. Get on with it.
Whenever I mentioned Konate it was due to how the discussion was evolving in said thread. It really shouldn't be hard for you to understand that. Now please, either put me on ignore or stop with your nonsense because you're not a admin or mod.

Evolving to what? How is talking about attacking mid Havertz in Havertz thread is being evolved to talking about Konate?

The club isn’t going to sign a player who barely even play this season for this summer window. That’s the reason why we are linked with De Ligt & Upamecano instead of this Konate.

I guess there Is no point talking about it aye, the love of you with Konate is too strong, no one can break it up even with the most logic that he’s not going to join us this summer.

And why are you so fecking worked up over Adnan mentioning Konate? The guy likes that player and yeah he mentions him often, in very good and thorough posts. Go and fecking chill a bit.

And @Adnan I think Upamecano would do great here, if he stays injury free.

My only worry. I think we'd have a sizeable insight into what he's like and have probably scouted him for quite some time.

He's been on our radar since being 15 and was close to joining before. The worry is, injury prone players usually stay that way and I hope this in not the case. The price being quoted in the latest report seems like a peanut for the talent he is.

I don't think Ole has any interest in any Leipzig defenders. Tuanzebe can be as good as Upamecano.

I think there's probably 2 names on Ole's shortlist to buy new central defenders. Nathan Collins or Joe Rodon. Someone he can develop into the best.

He can develop average like Rodon but can’t develop Upamecano?

huh?

I think we need a top class centre half with physical presence and speed next to Harry.

Out of curiosity, what are you basing your assessment of Tuanzebe and Upamecano on? Only difference between Upamecano and Collins/Rodon is that he is not British. He’s a young 21 year old centre half who can be developed into one of the world’s best.

Tuanzebe is overrated on here from everything I’ve seen on the actual football pitch. To justify this potential, I have to go back to academy football, a level he hasn’t played at for about 4 years. Upamecano is younger and already better than him.

I think Upamecano will have half of Europe after him, and we're simply not entering a bidding war with City and Madrid. I think its pretty obvious we're not interested in him. I'm not convinced Upamecano offers more than Tuanzebe despite his horror injury season.

If we buy a defender, it will be a young British talent most likely that can be developed, unless there's some bargains to be got from relegation teams like Norwich.

Pretty sure the guy has a buyout clause, and there won’t be many clubs out there under the current circumstances who’d be prepared to head into a bidding war with ourselves i’m sure.

Yea because Axel has really been pushing for a place this season. Tuanzebe’s development has been stunted by the fact he can’t get on the pitch for 3 games in a row. And I’m pretty sure he’s already older, and not as good as Upamecano too.
Not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not but he was very much pushing for a place this season up until he got his hamstring injury in December. He’s certainly not a perma crocked player so not sure where your ‘can’t get on the pitch for 3 games in a row’ is coming from. There’s also only a years difference between the two of them and both nowhere near their peak currently.

He had two league starts in half a season, one of which was at LB. He wasn’t really pushing that hard.

He’s also had significant injuries 3 seasons in a row now so it’s self evident where the staying fit quip comes from.

Agree. Baillys kind of the ideal partner in theory, the performance against Chelsea shows how capable he is. Just a shame hes having a nightmare with injurys.

‘Pushing for a place’ based on what exactly?

And as @limerickcitykid said, the briefest of glances at his injury record will tell you where the injury concerns come from.

And yes, they are both not at their peak, Upamecano is just better currently, that’s all, and based on what we have actually seen, is widely predicted to have bigger potential. Axel did alright in the Championship last season. Not ‘Team of the Season’ levels or anything. I have no idea why everyone thinks he’s so close to the first team. Even the few times he’s played this season, has he been outstanding?

Players like Tomori, Ben White, Upamecano, De Ligt and Konate are all in and around his age group or younger and have shown far more promise at senior level. Yet if we were linked with any of them, as we have been in this thread, fans go into ‘protect Axel at all costs mode’ because he’s young and Red. The only real justification I can see is the obvious fact that ‘nobody knows how a player will develop’, so any prediction that he will be one of the best centre halves around cannot be disproven.

If he walked out of Old Trafford tomorrow and signed for Villa, Newcastle or Everton - I can’t imagine many fans would think we’ve let one of the future best defenders in the country slip away. Aside from ‘anything’s possible’. I reckon some team would pay us £25-£30m for him this summer based on the fact that he’s English, United educated, and spoken highly of. If it came down to needing to raise money, it would be a deal I’d consider personally. He’d possibly fetch the most of our centre halves on the market, and while young, I don’t think he’s shown himself to be one of the very top centre halves in the making in the senior football he’s played. I agree he was top class at youth level though, and I also liked him in midfield under Jose (and RB). I’m not purporting to be some super-scout, I’m just trying not to fill in blanks that I haven’t actually seen with will and affection.

Tuanzebe shouts need to be stamped out immediately. The lad has played 18 times for this football club in 5 years.

The best thing for him is another loan, or permanent transfer with a low buyback clause.

EDIT: @Rozay has been spot on about it on the matter, with a giant post seconds before mine.
Feel we are being used.
Possibly. No doubt we’re interested as I assume we have been ever since we failed to get him in as a youth player, but I do believe a CB is down the list of our priorities this summer.

Potentially, although as you say, he has a questionable fitness record, and also cannot head a football. I’m also not confident with what he will do from one situation to the next, but at least I have seen him put in top class centre half performances with my own eyes.

All things considered, I believe Ole has played it right this season in opting for Lindelöf, as he has been the most reliable and stable partner. His performances don’t fluctuate so my, and he is typically fit. He’s just not really of the top bracket, and lacks in physical qualities I think. If we can’t get a new defender this year, I’d expect him to continue in the team, however, if Bailly stays fit - he will compete. Jones and Rojo are done, and I doubt Smalling will return either (and he still has some market value). Axel needs to focus on getting fit before anything else, as he has a lot to show.

During the 18/19 season, he made 25 starts for Villa and the only injury issue that I could find on him during his spells there was a broken metatarsal which could happen to anyone.

And to say he wasn’t pushing very hard is very dismissive. He came back into the side after we just dropped £80 million on Maguire and was up against Lindelof, Bailey and Jones to get ahead of them, yet made 7 appearances up to his injury. Not incredible numbers by any means but what else was he meant to do, every time he came into the side he seemed to take his chances and looked pretty solid in the team from what I can remember.

Just to be clear, and as I said in my original post, I’m not saying we shouldn’t sign Upamecano as it would stunt Tuanzebe’s progress, I’m asking if it’s worth dropping the numbers on him when I think we’ve got a player in Tuanzebe who looks like he could grow into a very good player. As @Rozay mentions in his follow up post ‘he has a lot to show’.

I’ve not seen this boy play yet but am a little worried that signing another centre back is going to stunt the development of Tuanzebe. I think he’s an excellent prospect and would love to see him get a lot more minutes next season.
The only thing stopping Tuanzebe is his body unfortunately. He could go the way of Smalling and get over them or go the Jones way.

I dont think Tuanzebe has shown anything like the quality of Upamecano.

For a reported 40mil, Upamecano is an absolute must. He'd be a starter for us, no problem.

We have enough youngsters and neither Collins or Rodon are anywhere near good enough for us to even consider.

The links to Rodon are a joke, he's not good enough i'm afraid

It came across as if you were trying to move Axel into the same bracket of player as Upamecano, which was the basis of my response.

Even injuries aside, I don’t think he’s shown enough to be knocking on the door of the first team. Yea, he played 25 games at Villa last season. But to what standard? He was decent, he wasn’t building the sort of reputation that Henderson has been building with his performances. He was just a Villa player, but one who happened to have a United contract. Given we don’t typically go shopping in the Championship when looking for first-team players, he’d need to have been a lot better than he was at Villa (not that he was ‘bad’ at all) to say he should come back and get in the United team. It’s as if some fans wrote the whole story out before he left to go on loan, that he will ‘go out, get experience and then come back and fight for a place’ and his performances are the last factor they considered relevant from there on. For him to go to the Championship at 20/21 years old - he’d need to have one of those ‘he looks too good for that level’ seasons to be expecting to come back into our side. That wasn’t the case.

I reckon people will struggle to list 3 actual centre half performances at pro-level that they have seen from Axel that made them think ‘this is a future United regular’, but it’s still a such a commonly held view, at 22 and a half years old. If we can get Upamecano or similar quality for £40m, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s only marginally more than we can mug a PL side for Axel, which would make it an easy trade for me. We have plenty of other academy players around to worry about losing the souls of the club or anything, we can’t start lowering the Manchester United bar for these kids.

A more composed, better in the air Bailly. Wondering what Baillys stats are compared to Upamenco with regards to Ariel duals won.

as youve said Lindelof is ok for now, but for where we want to be we need an upgrade physically

I just think that over the course of a season, few teams will be able to outplay us, not without physically dominating us. I feel like a large portion of the goals we concede to the lower teams have significant arial contribution, whether a direct headed goal or not, or simply some Raul Jimenez bullying a centre half and bringing the ball down on his chest then laying it off.

A Vidic or Stam (I know they don’t grow on trees!) would be huge for us. It’s not even in terms of actually conceding the goals themselves. It’s about the entire mood of the match, especially away from home. We go away and face a lot of balls in the air, and even if Lindelöf gives a few fouls away struggling to cope with his forward, it gets the fans jumping and begging for a card, pumps up the home team etc. If we had a centre half pairing that ate those all day, good luck some of those teams just trying to pass through us.

It's not just about our defenders needing an upgrade. It's the fact that we can get an upgrade for a rather cheap price. If Upamecano's price tag was 70m plus most people would say that we can make due with the CBs we have for now and focus on other positions.

If we sell Rojo, Smalling and Jones new center back is must buy!

Tuanzebe is good but at this point he is far from regular starting spot. If he is good enough he will fight for that spot with Upamecano or somebody else.

CB is position which we have quantity but not quality enough so we must sell first then buy.

The same is with AM.
