I disagree. You can turn twitter off. The BBC used to roast him every week on a show that got millions of viewers. A 19 year old kid. It was so uncall for.As bad as that was, the age of Twitter could have made things even worse. Chadwick would have received Lingard levels of abuse if he were around today.
Those replies are all surprisingly nice, I thought it would be a load of scouse calling him all sorts.Tweet

They probably aren't following a minor squad player from a rival team 20+ years on in fairness! Those replies are all surprisingly nice, I thought it would be a load of scouse calling him all sorts.
You can also turn the TV off. It's one of buttons on the remote.I disagree. You can turn twitter off. The BBC used to roast him every week on a show that got millions of viewers. A 19 year old kid. It was so uncall for.
Its more the target of the jokes, more than the jokes themselves. Dwight Yorke and David Beckham are sort of fair play. They're big names, they put themselves out there, they'll take whatever shit given to them. The likes of Jason Lee and Luke Chadwick are hardly such easy targets, its pathetic. All jokes aside, I’m not generally a fan of over political correctness, but in cases like this it is good that such behaviour would never be tolerated today.
I feel like if you're in on the 'joke' yourself (him calling himself a journeyman) the twitter trolls lose all their ammunition. They probably aren't following a minor squad player from a rival team 20+ years on in fairness!
At 19 you might not know how to deal with it.You can also turn the TV off. It's one of buttons on the remote.
You can walk around on your merry way knowing your parents are probably not going to see the abuse you get by some faceless people on social media. A massive difference when in the pre-twitter world you see famous comedians, who you are paying your TV license to slagging your son off for how he looks. You can also turn the TV off. It's one of buttons on the remote.

A similar interview for those who don't have access to the Athletic.
I didn't really think about all the Chadwick comments at the time, viewing them in much the same way as I would jokes about Phil Jones being an oaf or Ashley Cole being greedy. As soon as I saw Daniel Taylor mentioning that Chadwick interview it suddenly dawned on me that it must have been pretty horrible for a shy kid to start getting publicly mocked for being ugly, which you'd think would have been pretty fecking obvious to me at the time. It's too easy to fall into the trap of thinking different rules apply to footballers when it comes to the insults they take and that they're somehow immune to being cut down by it.
And that is why they do a free trial.I got the free trial to the athletic about a month ago. My initial plan was to cancel when its over, but I've been massively impressed by the writing, even in a period of time with no sport.
I’m enjoying the trial and I reckon I’ll keep it after.I got the free trial to the athletic about a month ago. My initial plan was to cancel when its over, but I've been massively impressed by the writing, even in a period of time with no sport.
Yes it is, the media mock people relentlessly. There are numerous memes that go viral and even work their way into the media. There’s always been a need to point out perceived issues people have and take the piss out of them. All jokes aside, I’m not generally a fan of over political correctness, but in cases like this it is good that such behaviour would never be tolerated today.
Isn't that totally different with this one.. generally (I know some criticism is unjustified).Just take a look in the Lingard thread...
Because of his looks i doubt it the world's changed a lot? Lingard's been abused because of the way he's been playing for almost 15 months - he's been absolute shit yet acted like some sort of a superstar. All his bullshit merchandise and promoting his clothing brand days before the Liverpool match. Not to mention his stupid tweets. He's 28 and acts like i did when i was 13. There's so much a fan can take when their team has been poor for years but to watch some prick exploiting his fanbase for $$$ because he plays for one of the most popular clubs in the world and showing almost nothing in return on the pitch. I'll never support that kinda shit. You have one job perform on the pitch the rest comes later. As bad as that was, the age of Twitter could have made things even worse. Chadwick would have received Lingard levels of abuse if he were around today.
Some of the things said about Lingard is true and needs to be said, but some is way over the top. And the Twitter abuse is just crazyIsn't that totally different with this one.. generally (I know some criticism is unjustified).
Fully agree, unfortunately there are still many such so called comedians out there. Graham Norton made a career out of it on his original C4 show where he would phone somebody up and insult them on tv. Apparently it was comedy. The best comedians are the ones who can make people laugh and be wholesome at the same time. Not a big fan of the bullying type of comedy.
Well ‘media’ is a very loose term, and anyone with a camera or even a phone is considered media today. No official media such as BBC could repeatedly take the mick out of someone’s face, unless the presenter was the player’s personal friend or something. They could get sued for a start.Yes it is, the media mock people relentlessly. There are numerous memes that go viral and even work their way into the media. There’s always been a need to point out perceived issues people have and take the piss out of them.
If Lingard could choose to play like Pele, he would. It's out of his control that he's lost his form.Because of his looks i doubt it the world's changed a lot? You can't be out of form for over a year.If Lingard could choose to play like Pele, he would. It's out of his control that he's lost his form.
Of course you can.You can't be out of form for over a year.
He's regressed thats the point i'm trying to make. He reached his peak at 24-25 and now he can't play at the same level anymore. Happens a lot in football.Of course you can.
Are you saying he's deliberately playing badly, and he can choose to play at a higher level any time?
