What.a.feckin.performance

All the more ridiculous given that he was 20 years old away at Paris and playing against France in a WC qualifier.
Magnificent. Could imagine him well in a Modric-style role in drafts.

Considering he's only 20 there: did he fulfill the promise shown here, by and large?

Excellent all round and industrious display (with his pressing also playing a role in Müller's goal), and he capped it off with one of the more innovative headed goals you'll ever see.
I've read that Müller demanded that only one of them goes to the World Cup. Thankfully, he failed :)

He was magnificent pretty consistently up until he left Juve — going by the bits that I've seen and read about his career after it, he failed to reach his previous heights. As I've mentioned in his All-Time write up (which reminds me!), Juve fans were pretty furious with the decision to sell him, even though Michel Platini was one of the hottest properties on the market at the time. This speaks volumes about his level, although ultimately it, as we know, proved to be the right decision.

Cheers, drafts with three year peak rule should make him a really good option then.

They even ended up sharing a room in Mexico :D

Brady's final game for the Gunners against Valencia in the Cup Winner's Cup Final - a good game but missed a penalty in the penalty shoot-out (not in the match footage).

It was his performances against Juventus in the semi final that caught their eye and resulted in him moving to Juve. There were some issues with editing so a few of the clips got mixed about.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.

Another good performance. He didn't showcase it as much in this match, but his dribbling style is so graceful and easy on the eye. I remember reading this quote from Boniperti some time ago and you do wonder if Brady and Platini could have played together if it wasn't for the two foreigners rule, and how different Brady's standing could have been if he was around for Juve's subsequent European successes:

Juventus President Giampiero Boniperti said:
Brady, Boniek, Platini - we had one too many. If only we had been able to hold onto all three of them, with Brady playing behind those two, we would have become one of the greatest teams of all time. I remember I rang Brady and an hour later he was at my door. 'Brady, we've signed Platini, I'm really sorry,' I told him...He was in tears and I had a lump in my throat, too.

Yet another classy performance with some  moments as usual. His pin-point delivery was a constant thorn in the French backline and resulted in most of Ireland's best chances with one of them ending up in the net, eventually.

A real shame we didn't get to see them on the same side but I reckon it'd have worked a treat. No different to how Giresse-Platini worked imo.

Aye, it's easy to see how they'd have adapted to one another, partiularly with Brady probably being an attacking No. 8 by instinct rather than a domineering No. 10:

Brady said:
I played a completely different game. Trapattoni would say to me that he didn’t want me running up and down the pitch. In England I would have been considered a Hoddle or a Brooking – who wasn’t doing his work. But in Italy that was my role. Trequartista. No 10.
Another excellent performance as well. Something tells me he's going to start appearing more in drafts in the near future :D

Was Brady the only Irish or British player that fully succeeded in 80s Italy? From what i've read it seems most struggled to adapt. Some of them like Souness probably also moved too late.

Looks like it. Ray Wilkins had a decent stint at Milan, but that's about it I reckon.

Souness was getting on but didn’t show signs of his age until his second season, with a clear drop off from his top level at Mexico ‘86 and then as player-manager at Rangers. His first season in Italy was impressive, adapting quickly, winning the cup and pushing Sampdoria into the title race.

I think I read that he considered that first season at Sampdoria to be the best football he played in his career. Trevor Francis also seems to have been quite highly regarded in Italy for his performances for Sampdoria in the 80s. This goal against Inter was

Good article about Francis' Serie A stint here

A cracking showing with some nifty dribbles, inventive passes, dead-ball deliveries and of course pulling the strings as usual. Almost scores a goal right after kick off, after leaving 2 Spanish defenders for dead .

Exhibits his fiery side as well, frequently squaring up against Spanish players after overzealous fouls - not just for himself it has to be noted. He sprints to defend his teammate despite his teammate not even protesting himself  (@1.28)

Same thing in the final against Valencia (@0.26) with the Valencia RB giving Neymar and Busquets a good run for their for their money with his theatrics .

Things were getting heated up with some tough tackles flying about and Brady himself coming under some heavy challenges. Absolutely takes the Mickey out of one of the players trying to foul him though, left him on the floor twice consecutively whilst swanning about untouched (@2.16). That moment at 8.43 though , gotta love the referee. And then immediately proceeds to float a lovely ball for Ireland's 2nd goal...

@Joga Bonito loving these comps mate... always thought Brady went under the radar in UK, great to see him getting recognised.

Should have easily had 2 or 3 assists, if only his teammates were a bit more clinical. Had a lovely cross on him with that left peg of his (regardless of which flank he was crossing from).

Ireland stormed to a 2-0 lead with Brady getting on the scoresheet with a penalty, but the Gullit-v.basten duo proved too hot to handle with the two of them bagging three goals.

Maldini vs Romario

other one would be vs Weah(not many can send Baresi to the shops but he did it, was a thing of beauty :D) but fecking Tassotti got injured so Maldini moved to the left :(

His class is apparent although he had a rather frustrating game in front of the goal. The Romario-esque turn to go 1v1 was glorious though and had an excellent overhead kick late on in the match too.

That Marseille side was excellent though - Tigana*, Amoros, Deschamps, Waddle (excellent in this match), Mozer and Papin.

*for all his slick dribbling and crisp passing ability, it's his consistency which always stands out for me, rarely has bad games and his in-game consistency is ridiculous too - barely misplaces passes or loses the ball and more or less always makes the right choices.

That offside call at 1:36 is shocking.

Class & Grit.

A commanding display in every sense of the word.

Turned out to be a bit longer than I'd have liked but left some segments uncut, to show how influential he was.
