The best time to shop for clubs that have the money is now.
Maybe this time 'Utd tax' won't be applied to us.
I'm not sure we have as much as fans think. The Glazer debt rose today by £130 million. A 40% increase on our total debt which stands at £430 million, which means in their 15 years of ownership they have managed to clear £100 million so far from the original debt of £525 million.

Hopefully we land Jude Bellingham, but Sancho is not happening this summer.

I don't think they care about paying his wages because if they sold him, they will have to sign someone else who will have wages too. That is a silly argument to sell him IMO.

Even then, if he stays and clubs are financially stable, there could be a bidding war for him. His value will not half, be serious.

Hazard went to Madrid for £100m with one year left on his contract.
Sancho is one of their highest paid players and his replacement will probably not sign a similar contract specially after this pandemic.
BVB will probably go for a more affordable up and coming youngster, based on their model.

Your argument about Hazard is fair but that won’t be the case for Sancho due to this pandemic. As many clubs have come out and said, transfer fees will drop considerably and since football will he played behind closed doors for the foreseeable future, clubs will not earn as much for at least a year.
Hence, even if other clubs do become interested and initiate a bidding war, no clubs will pay an impractical sum knowing only a year is left on his contract and other alternatives are available.

Also, my prediction of his value dropping by almost half may sound unreasonable but I was referring to BVB’s asking price of 120-150m which relates to 60-75m in a years time which is still a substantial amount for a player with just a year remaining on his contract.
BVB would accept such a sum quite happily I’d assume if they do decide to stick to their original valuation and no club is able to pay that fee this year.

The Daily Mail are saying we will stick to Greenwood, Martial and Rashford as a front 3, and will not buy Sancho

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...eadliest-strike-force-WITHOUT-Harry-Kane.html
They don't actually say that at all

United believe Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood have the potential to become one of the most lethal forward lines in Europe even if they can't sign Kane or £100m-rated Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

And it's the Mail so who cares what they say

Well they would say that after the reports, what else is going to generate clicks

We just don't know what'll happen but Woodward made a clear point of saying we have 90m cash in the bank and up to 150m through credit.
OK fair enough. Still a shaky market to be spending record amounts on 1 player. There's hope for Sancho deal yet. I still think buying Sancho might depend on Pogba leaving but let's wait and see

I do get that the BVB model is based on selling players, they have come out and said that as well.

I do get that transfer fees might fall, however; I am not sure by how much, at the moment clubs will not want their most priced assets go cheaply.

Dortmunds asking price of £120m will drop to about £100m this summer anyway. There is also the possibility that Dortmund get Sancho to sign a new contract which will drive his price back up?

IF we are to do a deal, we should go for it this summer.

On the contrary, maybe clubs will actually want/have to sell their assets to cover the huge amounts of debt/losses they are going to encur.

Sancho only has a very small amount of time left in his contract also, they're losing value on him every month.
That's true also, but a club like Dortmund will command a fee far to high for clubs to proceed with in the current circumstances.
Despite the context, it's still a seller's market.
Clubs are more likely to release players off the wage bill, hence I think we will see a lot of loan deals this transfer window, whenever it may be

What good will it do to BVB by keeping SANCHO? His value is only going to drop next year. And almost half of it!
Not to mention they’ll have to pay his wages for another year as well which are substantial!
He could always sign a new contract?!?
Then his value doesn't drop so much.
It'll help Dortmund by making them a true force, along with Haaland.

Not necessarily you are assuming all the money will be paid up front. A lot of transfers are paid over a duration of years so its likely we`d pay say 90m guaranteed but over a duration of 3 years plus add ons involving appearances, goals scored etc woth maybe 30m. Thats what Barca did with Dembele.

I would expect Haaland will be gone in the next two seasons too . Dortmund will get a very tidy sum for him aswell , in fairness to them they are excellent with young upcoming players

Yes, unless they genuinely want to sell to get maximum value and get him off the wage bill. They could replace him for 1/3 of the price with somebody on 1/3 on his wage.

Earning 90m Euros right now could be the make or break of teams across Europe.

So when do they expect this to happen? Never mind the money thats lost, clubs dont suddenly get that back if there's a vaccine. Itll take years to build funds back up again
Not to mention his contract will be running down next year and every story coming out regarding his situation claims that his camp have no interest in renewing/extending his contract with them...

At the end of the day there are so many angles to this. The kind of money they would get for Sancho is nuts. Probably more then what we sold Ronaldo for all those years ago - though the technical details would differ greatly you'd imagine. If the player is strong in his mind to return, we can do well this summer because there will be as much, if not greater uncertainty the following year especially if the player limits the number of possibilities re destinations. From our perspective, we have to get it over the line. Then the whole dynamic changes. Not only do we have a stronger squad but the youth must be buzzing. But we will have to wait on this.

Yeah, they have the buying and selling of young players locked down.

I thought it was reported that Haaland has a buyout clause?

Everything has been turned on it's head.
The amount United will spend
The amount Sancho is worth
The amount Dortmund need to bring in to balance their books etc etc

Same goes for every club and every player.
Dortmund can't wait for a stronger market as it'll leave Jadon with a year left on his contract.

This isn't me saying we're getting Sancho btw, but it's a lot of clubs making a lot of noise to defend their assets, whether it's money or players

Shows how crazy the market has been that I don’t register that as a ‘tidy sum’. Although you could argue he could easily go for near to 100 million if he keeps scoring.
Yep 63 million is a hell of alot of money . The market has gone bonkers like the figures being thrown out for Longstaff last year . Haaland is a very promising young talent but 63 million in my opinion is more sensible. He certainly is one to keep an eye on .

Oh there's people starting to accept the reality we face now. I and plenty of others did say it. Sancho is not happening this summer.

28m lost revenue to date and predicted to go much higher. Net debt up 127m as well. And people think we are going to buy a 100m euro rated player. Its just fantasy stuff.

Bellingham and probably Igahlo / some other back up striker will be our lot.

You left out the part where we have 90m in cash reserves and an accessible 150m in credit facility plus the fact that not all the money will be paid at once it`ll involve add ons and the assured fee can be paid over a duration Barcelona did that with Dembele. Plus our debt is mostly refinanced and isn`t due for another 7-9 years and even then it can be refinanced again so it doesn`t affect our current spending power that much if at all and with the PL set to return and potential CL qualification some of the financial strain will be removed.

OK but is that money for transfers? Also what is this 150m credit facility? Another loan? If we're having to take out another big loan it may be for more than big summer spending.

Correct if wrong but I read it as cash to cover potential losses, operational expenses and some transfers rather than 240m summer warchest

I don’t think we are actually in for Grealish. Personality and how a player carries themselves is such a big factor in our recruitment under Solskjaer and while he might be a strong personality and Villa’s main man, he’s also a bit of an immature nob head and I’m not convinced he’s got the emotional intelligence to make the step up to this club.

I'm glad someone said this.

There's a very good breakdown of this on reddit for anyone interested, it isn't as sensationalist as some are making out.

I agree. The “hole not asshole” quote doesn’t exactly go hand in hand with signing Grealish.

Got to admit that I'm surprised that you're a serious contender or maybe even the favourite for his signature, too. Would't have thought that you still have that kind of attraction towards young players.

That being said, I still think you guys exaggerate a bit. You definitely lost reputation throughout the last 5-6 years and it is a lot harder for you to sign top players than it used to be. Sancho may end up at United eventually but I think if that happens, his English and Manchester roots will play a huge part in that decision. Back in the day, you were definitely a tier above Bayern, PSG, Juventus, Chelsea, City and Liverpool in the food chain. That's no longer the case. I think especially in non-British perception, you are less attractive than you might think. Which doesn't mean that you could turn back the clock in an instance, anyway. It'd take you two great seasons at most and you're back at the top.
There's a subtle irony in telling a bunch of United fans on a United forum that we're are not very attractive to non-Brits when you're a random Leverkusen fan from Germany who choses to spend time posting here in his second language.

I will when all you 16 year old fifa players stop with all the BS. We may very well have been on course to sign him prior to the virus hitting and obviously depending on us getting CL football too. The day the league was suspended was the day this move died.

What a strange hill to die on and speak in absolutes when literally nothing is certain when it comes to transfers or football in general presently
